Brandon Ingram, Raptors power past Heat 106-96

Both the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat entered Monday on four-game losing streaks. One was going to get snap, while the other was going to extend to five.

The Toronto Raptors snapped theirs and, thus, the Miami Heat did not.

Behind a dominant fourth quarter, the Toronto Raptors powered past the Heat with a 106-96 win inside Kaseya Center Monday evening. After trailing by three — 77-74 — Toronto opened the final frame on a 17-2 run and didn’t look back, outscoring the Heat 32-19.

Brandon Ingram continued to spearhead the Raptors’ attack offensively, scoring a game-high 28 points on 9-of-19 shooting and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Collectively, the Raptors shot 47.7 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from 3-point range.

Conversely, Miami struggled all night outside of a hot start in the first quarter.

Rebounding and sloppiness were two big issues that led to the Heat’s fifth consecutive loss. But perhaps their biggest was shooting — or lack thereof. They shot just 42.2 percent from the floor and 29.0 percent from 3-point range, including just 21.7 percent (5-23) over the final three quarters.

As we underscored here, Miami’s regression to the mean from distance has been an integral part of its now-five-game skid. It’s been an issue with or without Tyler Herro, who was a late scratch due to a nagging toe injury.

Norman Powell and Bam Adebayo led the way with 20 points apiece for Miami. Adebayo also tallied 10 rebounds — his 10th double-double of the season — on 7-of-13 shooting, while Powell added three rebounds and four assists. Davion Mitchell had 12 points and four assists; Andrew Wiggins had 10 points while Dru Smith and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 11 and 10 points off the bench, respectively.

The Heat will have to stomach a five-game skid for 72 hours before taking the court again Thursday on the road against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Fun fact.

Nico Jovic was the only Heat player with positive +- last night (+2).
Basically, he was the best player of the team.

Which is not that far from the truth.

12 seconds of glory. He must have missed the class on how to posturize. The more I watch him play, the more I question his BBIQ. He definitely needs to “rehab” a month or two in Sioux Falls.

This is what happens when a run and gun team stops running and gunning. Their pace is all screwed up. 3 point shooting fell off a cliff. It seems like defensive effort is directly tied to offensive success. If shots aren’t falling defensive effort declines. This team has lost its way. I see trades coming soon.

This is a gap year, so I m not really disappointed with results. I m a bit disappointed with the way team is playing right now.

Its clear, that opposite teams figured out how to defend the Heat. Past week was an ideal time to make some adjustments, but we just saw the more of the same.

Its a coaching problem, not the players one. I think they weren’t in position to win this game.

We have now lost to some very beatable teams on this losing streak. Whatever the reason, it can be ascertained beyond equivocation that we are not performing like that of a highly competitive team. And, if you believe, as I do, that we have the best possible coaching, it has to come down to personnel. We have some very good players but just not enough of them.
And any strategy or usage pattern will not lift this team very much and it’s futile to merely hope we get better. That is not to say we are bad, just mediocre.
So, it’s clear that it’s either make a move now or sometime down the road. I’m one who likes as immediate gratification as strategically possible. So, I understand the need to wait to make the best possible move, but I do hope we will try to improve this team, this season.
If not, I still back this team fully, but I wonder why not go for it because to me, every year the clock is ticking on some players careers and it is almost never better to wait.

No opinion, just a simple fact: the Heat are 11-9 (.550) without Herro, and 3-3 (.500) with Herro.

Toronto is a good defensive team, they covered perimeter really well.

If you live or die with 3p shooting, you will loose with playing such team.

The good news is that Miami now has a solid hold on 9th place.
