Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been at the hotbed of trade rumors over the last 72 hours. While his market appears to be fairly thin, the Miami Heat reportedly have (some) interest in the disgruntled star.
The star guard recently purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami-Dade County, according to popular Miami Heat Twitter account, @dru_star.
Two Grizzlies reporters, Damichael Cole and Lucas Finton of the Commercial Appeal, confirmed the report shortly thereafter.
“Records show that, on Dec. 23, 2025, Morant was listed as an executor of a trust that purchased a $3.2 million home,” the report read. “The purchase came more than two weeks before sources confirmed that the Grizzlies were considering trading Morant.
“The Commercial Appeal will not be listing the property address for safety reasons, but the home is approximately four miles, or about a 20-minute drive, from the arena where the Miami Heat play.”
This could, very well, mean nothing. Miami is a beautiful place to live and it’s home to several NBA players who aren’t necessarily affiliated with the organization in any way.
But it’s quite interesting, given the timing of the situation.
Morant, 26, has missed the Grizzlies’ last five games with a calf contusion. The Grizzlies ruled him out of Thursday’s game against the Orlando Magic in Berlin, Germany.
The two-time All-Star is having the worst season of his career. He’s averaging just 19.0 points with career lows in field goal percentage (40.1), 3-point percentage (20.8) and true-shooting percentage (50.6).
His value on the trade market has never been lower than what it is right now. He has $87 million left on his contract and will be eligible to sign a three-year extension this summer.

The momentum keeps building. But, people were saying similar things about Lillard not too long ago. Sometimes, the Heat get used for leverage. Then again, this could be the time it happens. Getting a house here is not a definitive indicator, but it’s another thing pointing in that direction. Still, believe it when it happens, and only then.
If we do get him, you know who I am hoping we offload. If we do that, it would be amazing in an addition by subtraction way. But, the poison pill concept will likely prevent my ideal move.
Fingers crossed.
dont think tyler will do it though.theyre gonna want jjj or ware.so if im them im getting the best package, for my team.they dont like ja so i dont think they care where he goes.
In the end Mia would be doing Memphis a favor not the other way around. I also hope Tyler is included if you gotta get another team involved do so.
one of the few times disagree bonafide ss took some time off memphis is a terrible org ready to be a ss down here only 26
I guess if we had to trade Jaimie it would be worth it. For me, and I’m sure not everyone thinks this, but I wouldn’t trade Ware for him. Plus, the salaries have to at least come close to matching up, so that would also make Ty a possibility. But Ty and Jaimie is a deal I would make but probably more people would think that’s an overpay.
So, all these negotiations are tricky. It’s a wonder any deal gets done. And, because teams sometimes decide they have to do a trade, for a variety of reasons but usually related to salary and/or diminishing performance, that’s when you get these unbalanced deals. Trae was maybe gotten cheaply for that reason and maybe Morant, who seems to be past the point of no return, will also go cheaply.
I wouldn’t trade Ware. I wouldn’t trade Jaquez.
I wouldn’t trade Larsson. I wouldn’t trade Mitchell.
your fired
Memphis wants a good young player, a draft pick and an expiring contract. They are in no position to be shot calling. Their relationship is over and they are stuck with a disgruntled player. Right now, it looks like Miami is negotiating against itself if it gives them what they want.
Herro plus Fontecchio or they can go **** themselves. Hell, Memphis should throw in a 2nd rounder just as a sign of good faith. But that’s just me. I understand that some of you may be more than willing to give away the team’s future, desperately hoping he fits the team’s culture and can find his mojo.
If he does not find his mojo and return to his former productivity AND if Jovic doesn’t find his mojo, that will be about a third of the team’s payroll tied up through 2028. Think about it. Herro plus Fontecchio. Period!
No Herro. Kaspar and salary filler. We need Herro to make a run this year and then have more ammo for Giannis in the summer.
Also, Sacramento has inquired in Ja as well.
Morant is a Memphis headache now. Any more than Herro and Fontecchio is a very bad deal. Maybe Wiggins, Fontecchio and Johnson.
Grizzlies should be giving Miami a pick (maybe a 2nd rounder) to take him off their hands. As we know from the quitter experience just last season, disgruntled players are a cancer that can infect a team and take a while to recover from once they are finally gone.
This trade would be a big gamble for Miami. No need to compound it by giving Memphis an all star AND a 6MOTY candidate. That would be very s-t-u-p-i-d!
The dude is injury prone. He’s out again for several games right now. Remember, the #1 ability is availability. Is it worth $100M+ to acquire a player who is out half the time, or more, especially if it is unknown whether he can be restored to the player he once was a few years ago? It’s a big gamble Miami can’t afford to lose.
I am on the pandora ride line at Disney. The level of fantasy is equal to what I’m reading here.
Fun ride. Careful with the water.
No, not me. You said Jaquez was maybe the best player on the team and now you want to trade him for a part time player? And Herro has to be included in that deal or another because adding another guard without subtracting Herro would create a bigger problem at the guard position than you have now. It’s clear Herro considers himself a starter. You start Ja, you start Powell. They need to find a new home for Herro and add another big.
Absolutely. There’s a few bigs out there.
jaquez herro im down with that for ja.pg most important position .its like qb in nfl.davs tua mediocre.ja could be josh allen .again.jjj style of play for long run not sustainable to violent.injuries are inevitable
No way. He has not been anywhere near a ss in 3 years.
Idk about 3 years. I do know the Memphis grizzlies were putting bta vs the okc thunder game 1 of the playoffs last year until Dort was sent out there to injury Ja. Also I don’t understand how some people on here want Ja and Herro on the same team it’s crazy to me, conversations between Mia and mem probably involves one of two herro ware and jjj
JJJ was probably the best or at least the most consistent Heat player this year aside Powell.
Still, he is a limited player in certain way. A big waiting for him in the rim takes his game away. He is not good enough 3p shooter to overcome this, and maybe he will never be.
So, IMO, JJJ should be available as a part of the trade for a better player. But not for Morant.
I think you need to keep Herro in case Giannis is available during the summer. Bucks would want Ware-Herro and some picks. You end up with Bam, Giannis, Powell and Ja.
Send Memphis Fonteccio, Rozier (both expiring), and Kaspar, which is the main piece for them. A potential young talented player. Call it a day and smoke a cigar.
I’m lighting up. And a cigar too
Hootie hoooooo
So nice to see everyone having fun with this one, even though we still somewhat disagree, but just a little about the finer points. Maybe we will all be happy pretty soon.
rcs living in a fantasy world if he thinks ja wont help,no wonder he likes disney world
You’re living in a fantasy world if you can find where I said Ja won’t help, because I didn’t say that.
jas better rc wait and see.hfl said so
It’s not so much that I doubt he’s better, but I’d rather keep Jaquez and try for a better deal.
chances of getting greek is the chance of u having a bad dinner at jiko very small
No, just looking for what I’d consider a better deal for Ja. He is damaged, discounted goods, and I want to pay accordingly.
