Toronto might end up regretting that loss to the Kings. Atlanta looks solid for now, but things could get really interesting after that. There’s still a slim chance for us, though it would likely require sweeping Toronto. We’ve got what should be an easy win coming up, plus another favorable matchup soon. I’m now predicting the Heat to finish with around 43–44 wins, and hitting 44 could keep them in the mix for the sixth spot.
Unfortunately, the run & gun offense has destroyed the top 5 defense. Now Miami is a team without an identity.
When the Heat can be easily lose to a tanking Indiana team (which scored 135 points) and to a tanking Utah team which was intentionally trying to lose, the team has some serious issues.
The team needs major reconstructive surgery. A band-aid or two won’t cut it.
Both Utah and Indy have more talented players than Mia period.
I mean most of the league is in better position than Miami in both the short term and long term.
Teams like the Wizards, Utah, Indy and Dallas have a chance to add a elite prospect to young rosters.
Teams like the Warriors and Bucks (Pacers and Wizards), in theory return stars capable of helping them out perform Miami.
Most of the teams in the play-in to playoff mix are better than Miami already.
So that leaves teams like Brooklyn (who has twice as many 1st round picks, and will pick higher than the Heat), New Orleans, Memphis and Chicago?
I know that Miami will seemingly always play hard, and maybe the new non-tanking rules will end up benefiting this strategy, but the “making the playoffs was good” fans from last year, were clearly wrong. And any of think making the playoffs this year will be good, will also be wrong.
I will say at least this years team isn’t boring. It’s a bad team, but they are more fun to watch.
Don’t look now but Atlanta is 44-33 and looking like a lock on 5th place.
Toronto may regret losing to the Kings. Atlanta is in good shape now, but after that it’s going to be really interesting. There is still a tiny chance for us, but would need to sweep Toronto. We get an almost automatic win next and have another one upcoming. My new prediction for the Heat is between 43 to 44 wins, and 44 would be competitive for the sixth spot.
Heat are 2.5 games out of 6th place (3 games in the loss column) with 5 games to go. They still have 2 games vs Toronto and 1 vs the red hot Hawks. The chances of them getting 6th place are between slim and none…and slim just left the arena.
Celtics didn’t win untill jimmy was gone. Just saying. He got injured and wasn’t in those playoffs. They never really overcame him
I remember Miami was down 2 points in the final seconds of game 7 of the 2022 Eastern Finals. Butler could have gone around Horford for a 2 pointer to tie the game (as well as a potential and-1). Instead he (a .223 – 3 point shooter that season) chose to try his luck at “hero ball” by putting up a 3 point shot. He missed…Miami lost.
So much for the ‘Celtics didn’t win….’ theory.

I stand by my assertion, as others do, that plus minus for a single game can be deceiving. But tonight, Bam and Jaquez were -23, Dru -18, Wiggins -17, and Herro -11. In other words, when Herro was on the court tonight, the Celtics outscored the Heat by 11 points. Not 20, not 30.

Is he the weakest defender on the team? Sure. Is the number of points the Celtics scored because of him specifically? That’s ridiculous.
The Celts shot the lights out. You know who killed us, Hauser…I didn’t know he could score like that. But, other guys were bombing away too. It’s impossible to cover every three point ball and if a team is shooting that well there is almost no defense for it.

Not looking good for avoiding the play-in. Probably going to be Atlanta and Toronto at five or six. And if any team replaces them, it will be Philly. I’m going to say it right now,, I’m not rooting for us in the play-in and that’s not easy for me. But, I think we are better off losing.
