NBA fans havenβt even gotten to this offseasonβ yet questions surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpoβs future with the Milwaukee Bucks are once again swirling around the media.
The 10-time All-Star will be entering the final year of his contract for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year. He will become eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension on October 1 of this fall, or face a potential overdue trade if no extension is agreed upon with the Bucks leading up to that date.
Antetokounmpoβs up and down relationship with Milwaukee over the years has only gotten closer to an inevitable breakup the longer heβs remained on their roster. And a losing season that featured the Bucks being on the outside looking in from the play-in picture, let alone the playoffs, hasnβt helped the Bucksβ case to keep their former multi-time league MVP. Additionally, Milwaukee and Antetokounmpo were not on the same page in their attempt to shut him down through the final stretch of the regular season.
They had just recently made a head coaching change with Doc Rivers moving on and bringing in Taylor Jenkins, though Antetokounmpo reportedly had no say in that decision making. Thereβs seemingly been a disconnect between Milwaukee and the superstar for a while now, as another summer approaches where it could finally be time to part ways.
And of course, Miami will be in the mix, again.
The Heat are reportedly going to make another attempt to acquire Giannis this summer.
At this yearβs trade deadline, the Heat were very close to pulling off a Giannis blockbuster deal. Ultimately, the Bucks opted to hold onto the 31-year-old at the last minute and reassess the trade market during the offseasonβ where several teams, including the Heat, looking to make a franchise altering move will have more draft capital to dangle in trade talks.
Not long after that deadline, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald iterated the Heatβs intentions of taking another swing at the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes in the next coming months.
But is South Florida somewhere that Giannis really would think highly of for his next destination? According to himselfβ yes, it is.
Goran Dragic invited Antetokounmpo onto the first episode of his new podcast, Gogiβs Garage. And he did a little recruiting for Miami in the process.
βHey, Miami’s not a bad place, man,β Antetokounmpo iterated. βBeautiful, beautiful city, beautiful city.β
Miami is regarded as one of the premier destinations for not just star players in the league, but to pretty much everyone. So this could be something, or it could be nothing. Nevertheless, thereβs been rumblings of Giannis having an admiration on the idea of playing in Miami for years now. And Dragicβs podcast with him essentially confirmed that.
Perhaps this Heat team, as presently constructed, isnβt just a Giannis away from competing. But Pat Riley has always done a good job at finding those supplemental pieces around star players throughout his entire career. The game plan this summer should be built around attaining that superstar level talent necessary to make noise in the East. The rest can be figured out later.
Itβs been rumored that the same teams that were involved in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes at the trade deadline, such as the Heat, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves will all be back in the mix this summer. Thereβs been some talk on teams like the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics or Houston Rockets getting involved if they get bounced out of these playoffs early.
There will certainly be teams lining up. But the Heatβs offer was on the brink of being accepted a few months ago, maybe access to more draft capital can get them over the hump when dealing with Milwaukee.

What better way to getting attention/staying relevant and leveraging Milwaukee for his ext extension. Maybe he’s making a big bet again like he did before
watching gobert versus joker same size making it difficult on him but pat and eric dont like size.theyll go with little bam on him til bam retires
Tell the Bucks they can have whatever for Giannis
he’ll be in ny next year most likely
We can offer a better package.
I say they tank just this once next season. This Giannis drama or any other ss story dream of getting to Miami is getting old. And boring. And frustrating. I know Pat and co is too hard-headed to do it and so I see them missing it out with any ss fishing expedition and winning just 20+ games next season and getting a high pick they can work on. Also we might see the last of Herro, Powell, Wiggs and others by that time.
They love wishful thinking then being satisfied with mediocrity. Heat should clean house and use young assets and draft picks to acquire a ss in 2027.
knicks in trouble watching draft and nyk getting out athleticized
I guess they werenβt that out βathleticzedβ since they only lost by 1 point.
Bad matchup for the Knicks and short defensive liability Brunson
did u watch the game ny has more talent atl more athletic
In recent years, several stars have used Miami on purpose or inadvertently to get a better deal elsewhere. I really hope the Heat are firm. Put the best deal on the table after asking Milwaukee what they want and tell them to make a decision and not go back and forth with us and other teams while other free agents are coming off the board (again).
bam herro pelle
Iβm pretty sure he would come here to play with Bam. Friends and they share the same agent. I think Milwaukee would want Ware, your 2 players, 4 draft picks, and possibly Jaquez. And if Giannis gets hurt, the Heat will be in the worst position in their history. And, as usual, you would be the biggest complainer.
no homer we need a ss dont u get it low risk high reward homer.any player could get injured is that the way u think smh
Low risk? Are you back on drugs? Senior moment? Itβs an EXTREMELY high risk if you gut the team and all our draft picks for the next decade. This is an older player who has missed an average of 20 games a year for 7 years. You canβt beat Father Time. You just want a ss no matter how detrimental to the team it might be. Typical me me me selfish attitude.
They use Miami and east teams gets concerned of a ss in south beach and tries to derail the negotiations thru silver. And the Heat gets scammed. The end. ππππ ππ
we got jimmy bron bosh i think we did ok with fas.
Yeah, like KD, Lillard, Mitchell, Giannis. If you make the right deal, fine. If you gut the team, you will continue as the play-in king.
