After another disappointing season, the Miami Heat have plenty of questions to answer this summer. There are plenty of changes that must happen to breach this ceiling.
Most importantly, they must pick a direction. If you know me, you know which direction I still lean. Even though we’re over two months away from the start of free agency, it’s never too early to start thinking about the future.
Which players should the Heat part ways with, for better or worse? Here are three prime veteran candidates.
Tyler Herro:

Skinny: Herro may be one of the more obvious picks. But he also could be one of the difficult players to move.
Subject to a myriad of trade rumors in the past, Herro enters the final year of a four-year, $120 million rookie scale extension he signed ahead of the 2022-23 season. Herro’s had his fair share of ups and downs in Miami, and 2025-26 was a big let down. Coming off his first career All-Star appearance, where he played in a career-high 77 games, multiple injuries limited Herro to just 33.
He’s improved over his seven-year career. But it’s become abundantly clear that the two sides aren’t meant for one another. Herro’s an efficient offensive player, but he doesn’t impact the game — positively — when he’s not scoring (outside of shooting gravity). He’s an improved, but shaky playmaker; he’s an objectively bad defender in space; he gambles too much off ball; he’s a solid rebounder (for a guard).
There are too many flaws for the currently-constructed Heat to overcome to extend this marriage any longer.
Andrew Wiggins:

Skinny: Wiggins is coming off a rock solid first full season in Miami. At times, he struggled to find a rhythm off-ball offensively. But he was a reliable spot-up 3-point shooter and built a nice niche as one of the Heat’s top offensive rebounders. Defensively, he was switchable and oftentimes disruptive against other teams’ skilled wings; he knew how to guard his yard.
However, as much as I think Wiggins is underrated, he is also entering the final year of his contract ($30.2 million; player option), and could be an attractive trade chip if he exercises the deal. Plus, once again, I think the Heat need to lean young — and Wiggins doesn’t exactly fit that timeline.
He was a good bridge post-Jimmy trade, but I don’t think he meshes very well with this current core long-term. And the Heat should do their best to capitalize on a sell-lukewarm opportunity if he doesn’t opt out.
Norman Powell:

Skinny: Powell provided an essential injection over the first two or so months of the season, parlaying his play into his first career All-Star game. In his first 31 games with the Heat, he averaged 24.4 points on 48.8/42.1/86.6 shooting splits.
Unfortunately, injuries derailed the second half of Powell’s season. And his blemishes festered. Similarly to Herro, his defense was objectively bad; it’s fallen off a cliff relative to where it was in prior stops. He gets lost off-ball; he didn’t have the foot speed to keep up in space; Powell’s not a good playmaker, rebounder or processor.
The Heat’s 6-foot-2 guard did a good job generating paint touches, but his effectiveness was limited over the second half because of his lack of explosiveness (groin injury).
Powell will be entering unrestricted free agent. And Powell should only be kept if it’s a precursor for another move for, say, Giannis Antetokounmpo. If the Heat don’t land a premier offensive engine via trade, it would be in their best interest to stray away from Powell, who is pushing his mid-30s.

Celtics dominating the Sixers with Embiid in. I can’t watch, don’t pick up nbc anymore with Scripps bankruptcy. But, must admit I am surprised, and impressed with the Boston team.
embid cant move he just shoots js.he needs to retire asap.

Huge win by Toronto while shooting 32%FG, wow. That is how you win a basketball game. All heart

u mean gm coach
it is very very hard to win with the beard in the real season tyler herro d would not work either.jamal shead has hardly scored but his d on donovan made him very playable.league is all about d i dont care as muchabout scoring as defending and 2015 stats are fraud.its all about guarding.

Pat Riley Press Conference April 26, 2026 (Possible Scenarios)
He announces:
Since there are so many contract issues coming up this summer, one thing Riley cannot due is “run it back.”
ORL needed another 15 3FG game to win. Was beautiful to watch Detroit slowly wear away the lead in the 4Q then ORL hit a couple more threes and midrange shots to win. Keep playing your game against ORL and eventually their shooting luck will run out, their standstill offense and lack of composure will reveal itself. That’s the theory anyway/why I liked Miami’s chances in a play in vs ORL
What should we get from Riley:
If we can get that, than an old man still have some contact with reality and he should stay.
If we will get a smiley Riley pretending that everything is ok and fine and the right time to tell old stories, then he should go immediately.
So those 3 for Giannis?! Or Ja maybe?
changes needed anybody can u play sick of this boring bam led team tts getting old, send bam out west maybe for sabonis derozan package.send herro to memphis for ja ja gabor, send jovic to serbia for a player to be named later.if greek wants so beach any 3 not named ware .please changes needed enough of bam tyler
Neither Sabonis nor DeRozan are good defenders. Miami needs to strengthen its defense, not weaken it. One thing Bam can do is play defense.
versus joker lol.hes such a limited player good but never be ss except one night versus the generals.if u want to pay a 3rd option max $$ then u are the miami heat playins
Pat Riley will hold his annual season-ending press conference on Monday at 1 p.m. It should be interesting. Maybe he’ll announce his retirement plans.
It should definitely provide us with more insight. I can only hope it won’t be the well known “we believe we have enough, we like our team and let’s run it back”.
wemby on the heat makes us a champ contender?
Not really. Especially if he’s injured when he’s needed.
He makes SAS +16 points better when he is on the court. Their defense is #1 in the NBA when he is playing, better than OKC, and #20 when he is off the court https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wembavi01/on-off/2026
It helps when half the team’s players are lottery picks:
This team would rather stay the same than change. SA Did what needed to be done and start over. Now contenders for years so long as wemby stays healthy
While Miami was “running it back” again this season, teams like Portland, Charlotte, Atlanta, Toronto and Orlando were moving forward. Next year, there will be several additional lottery teams looking to move into play-in and possibly play-off contention (e.g., Golden State, Memphis, Utah, Milwaukee, Chicago, Indiana, Dallas and New Orleans). In today’s NBA, if you aren’t moving forward, you are being left behind. Riley’s outdated strategies have left Miami behind, in the untenable position of being a lottery team in decline.

Great team with great players. 7 players on that list, one raises SAS by 16 points and turns them into the #1 defense, without him and with the other 6 playing they’re #20. Despite all the talent there, without Wemby people online would be calling the team mid, saying the only logical thing to do is to tank again for the lottery.
Rookie #2 pick Dylan Harper came off the bench to score 27 points and grab 10 rebounds in Spurs comeback win over Portland yesterday. If you think having high lottery picks on your team besides Wemby doesn’t help. I have a bridge I want to sell you.
heat needed to hire d wade as their gm.everything he does he excels at.just a winner in life at everything .doing the game tonight great announcer
time lord 3 blocks he looks healthy spurs w/o wemby will not win this series
LeBron 29/13/6 (oops 8 turnovers) to beat Rockets. Plays 45 minutes at 41 years old. None better!!
if im the owner gm hes still a heater. and id have met u few times already in july houston gave game away up by 6 25secs dum foul a steal lebron 3 pter.smart was as good as lebron
He wouldn’t still be here. He was determined to go back to Cleveland. You heard it from me and SunMan but still don’t accept it.
everybody has a price hey lebron what t if .bronny s guaranteed a roster spot even if hes worse than jovic.d wade new head coach, spobot returns to film room.sunman from hhh becomes gm.rc from hhh becomes asst. capologist.hfl new marketing director.if that doesnt convince him to stay nothing would have.my 6 step plan to the goat before he hi tailed to beautiful sunny cleveland.
Bronny was a kid at the time. We have told you Riley was willing to give him anything he wanted. What he wanted was Cleveland. Nothing could’ve changed that. Dream on.
ok mr tyler whaever u say.i need to hear it from lebron not just u.
You don’t remember SunMan saying the same thing to you just 2 or 3 days ago?? Short term memory is one of the first things to go.
I thought the knees were. First the left knee, then the right knee, then the we. Oh never mind.
lebron steal and 3 wow wow houst giving game away
2 ss versus 1 advantage boston, heat no ss get one sunman take over pats job already bro
Heat would not be an elite team/a contender even with Giannis, especially if it has to give away young players with potential and draft picks.
Rebuild is preferable rather than blowing smoke up each other’s a**h***s and winding up in same place.
greek and derozan?
greek ja derozan all 3 could be had
Only if Ja can get his mojo back and can stay healthy.
DeRozan still has a couple of years left in him. His 18.4 ppg this season is the first time he averaged under 20 ppg in his 13 year career.
no risk no reward, just maybe 3 4 years ago id say ja top 10 playerhe needs a fresh start anyway.derozan wakes out of bed drilling elbow jumpers.greek not one person in the nba can guard him.thats my off season goal.in sports u have 3-5 year window for jewelry than salary cap issues come into play
If Riley plans to pull off a big trade for a ss, he better do it asap. Otherwise, he’ll waste months dreaming about getting a ss and all the good players/ trades will be gone. Heat ends up with table scraps again. Wash, rinse, repeat for 5th straight season. Quit gaslighting everybody Pat and do something bold, like retiring. The team will manage just fine without you. Gotta know when to fold em…
phily might need joel they got no #2 option bost gonna win
The other day they were better without Embiid. What happened?
pg and edge dont provide enough offense rc.maxey only good offensive player.
Not what you said like 2 days ago.
they need some more scoring im gonna say pg is the most overrated player in last 10 years.give me another one rc.edgecombe cant shoot the rock to well.2ss always beat one.embid gives them a 1/2 ss.just in his name.
I’m neither agreeing nor disagreeing. It’s just you changed your opinion again about 2 days later.
pg overrated edge super athlete needs to get his j fixed.tatum brown best 1 2 punch in nba lebron luka wemby fox joker murray ant randle curry quitter bam tyler.which one doesnt belong in this group
Yup, changed your mind again.
vucevic for simons awful trade was pat advising bost
I think they didn’t want to pay Simons, possibly due to cap issues.
id rather have jovic than vucevic not really vuc is so slow and done wow queta gives them better chance to win
jalen brown so good tatum 2nd best player now/
edgecome been so bad tonight wow have a niko night
im glad we didnt get kd.i was wrong on that one like many.but his one on one style doesnt cut it
phily up by one 67 66 third
edgecombe maxey 7 for 26 at half only down by 7
u cant lose both wigg and norm the chances of getting a better player are not that good.i would like both back at the right price.if they have to go for greek than adios or a ss yes otherwise keep em
Miami was only an average 3PT shooting team this year, #17 in 3PA and #12 in 3FG%. Herro, Powell and Wiggins combined for 18 3PA per game, half of the Heat’s 3PA per game. Trading all three would make the Heat one of the worst shooting teams in the league.
Winning should be the goal next year since 2027 draft is considered to be one of the weakest in many years, and the Heat owe an unprotected 2028 pick to Charlotte if their 2027 pick isn’t sent. Last thing a team wants to do is be bad on purpose just to send a lottery pick to another team.
When you trade players do you get players back in return or just send them for nothing?
Those are the teams best 3 point shooters ok so trade for 3 more 3 point shooters right statboy
Herro and Powell are on a short list of the most efficient high volume shooters in the entire NBA, and Wiggins just had the best shooting season of his career (41% 3FG, 56% EFG) and also guards the opponent’s best scorer, these aren’t easily replaceable skillsets you’re talking about. You’d be trading Herro at the low point in his value which is never a good time to make a trade. If Herro is not a part of a larger trade for Giannis, makes no sense to trade him just to make a trade.
You tried to dismiss Herro’s negative net rating because of the number of games he had played at the time – 29. 29 games for any player is a fair sample size. This is about fit as much as anything. As I’ve stated, he is a gifted offensive player, deficient defensive player. Getting a new start with another team may really benefit him. We differ on the idea of an extension. You give your reasons of why it makes sense. I think it would be a bad investment that would limit the team’s salary flexibility. This is where opinion comes into play. You may be right, time will tell. But it doesn’t mean I am wrong, because, yup, time will tell.
On basketball reference Herro was -1.9 in 1032 minutes this year in 33 games. He played in 26% of the Heat’s minutes.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/herroty01/on-off/2026
Last year he was +1.3 in 2714 minutes in 77 games, playing in 68% of the Heat’s minutes.
I definitely put much more weight on a full season sample than on a partial season. A teams rating can look very different at different points in the season. If your argument is Herro is a losing player based on 33 games this year that’s not something I think makes sense, but many Heat fans will agree with you.
Heat had the #5 defense in 21-22 and #9 defense last year with Herro leading the team in minutes those years. Herro was not the reason or main driver of that but I think that does show he can be part of a good defensive team.
hes always hurt stat man and playoffs n/a or suks.who cares about reg season. thats for losers gimme dawgs for playoffs like atl toronto phily not the most talented just dawgs.tys as soft as they come
Your evaluations of players are based on race and imagined characteristics so not much I can say in response. You probably think Duncan Robinson is soft also. Would say that Herro has played in 50 playoff games from age 20-25, not that many games to make definite conclusions on who is a winner and who is not, but to each their own
duncans very physical he s touching everybody he sees, its like hes a kid in school playing tag.winning players guard make players around them better do the little things to contribute to winning.exhibit one lebron james magic johnson two biggest high iqd players.tyler is a very talented offensive player no doubt.does he help u win ?is the ultimate ? about any player.impact on winning should be the # 1 stat in nba.id give lebron 100 on that.herro would be 50.jovic would be a zero.wade 90.quitter 85 .bam 65.ware 50.
“Duncan’s very physical” is definitely not something I ever expected to hear on here. DET is #2 defense this year with Duncan 2nd in minutes after Cade. DET falls off to #4 defense in Duncan’s minutes. Turns out he’s much better than he was given credit for on defense
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/DET/2026/on-off/
My position has never been that Herro is a losing player. But there is no question that he not a good defender. It has been said by many others, including players who publicly said they targeted him.
Most teams have a weak link on defense who is targeted. Heat with Herro as the weak link have been a top 10 defense in multiple seasons. Maybe it is more of an issue in the playoffs now but most teams have to deal with it. I agree he is not good on defense but I think his defensive issues, while a concern, are overhyped, and he’s capable of playing good positional defense. Would be better to have a two way SG but there aren’t that many out there, and Herro has special talent as a scorer. If the Heat trade him my guess is it would be for a player with a comparable or higher ceiling.
If he’s traded, let’s hope so. I’d say the 2 biggest advocates of Herro here have been me and 2qbn. I’ve watched him from the first summer league onward. But I don’t think his defensive issues are overhyped at all. In part, I think it’s because he has a slight frame that results in him being overpowered. It’s not that he doesn’t try, he does.
watch the games rc make your own judgments
A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.
This also holds true for anyone who uses only one source to form opinions.
stat man do u watch the games?
I watched the games and one thing I noticed this year was the Heat losing 1Q leads. Looked at the numbers and Ware was -6.2 over 1000 minutes without Bam this year. Herro and Powell are not good defenders but Ware was by far the worst defender on the team this year. I didn’t want to believe that, going into the season I thought Ware and Jovic were going to be the x-factors for a potential high 40s/50 win team, shows what I know. My opinons were really uninformed and influenced by social media. What I learned this year was you have to go beyond the headlines and comments here to really figure out what is going on in the game.
how old is he is he a boy?or a stat man?hes full of stat
The Idea of trading players is to try to bring in different players who might be a better fit. Or to obtain additional draft picks. Or to free up cap space. Playing the new players and the draft picks we obtain doesn’t mean being bad on purpose. In fact, for better or worse, the Heat are never bad on purpose. With the existing core, I don’t think the team will be considerably worse next season, depending, of course, on exactly which players they add. As for 2027, so far, both Haugh and Mullins decided to return to college and likely will be in that draft. And others might also do so. But even in a weak draft, you may find a player who fits a rotational need. While it is possible the Hornets may receive a lottery pick in 2028, I don’t believe it will be near the top. In the past 30 years, the Heat have had a winning record 24 times (and one 500 season). So while the front office has its flaws, they have been successful in creating competitive teams.
You going back and forth with statboy is a waste of time. Again meaningless stats for a player who is an avg player at best. Played 70 games once since getting drafted, what stat is there for that? Oh there is none hell the team went to the finals without him hes not needed here wasn’t then isn’t now. Just like you said a change of scenery might be better for him because his time in Mia should be over.
In statboy mind losing herro is like losing prime LeBron.
Your opinion is that the Heat should have signed Cam Thomas, right before Thomas was waived for the second time this year. You think that OKC would consider trading JDub for Bam, and that Herro is Jalen Green. All really off base opinions. But you don’t engage in good faith and have nothing but ad hominems to offer. Talk about a waste of time, why even reply
“All really off base opinions“
Only thing based off opinions are your irrelevant stats statboy.
All based off facts that the team has being mediocre these last two seasons with bam and herro as the teams leaders. All facts that Herro has played 70 games once statboy. My opinion is to start over/rebuild yours is to do what they’ve been doing since 2020 run it back, chase over the hill injury prone whales who aren’t coming here (Kawhi giannis), you want the team stuck in a perpetual mediocre cycle with minor tweaks to this flawed roster.
You brought up cam Thomas over and over you’re infatuated with him because I guarantee you can’t name when I was clamoring for him to be in jackass.
All you’ve brought are irrelevant stats lmao herro is a terrible defender yet you’re up here with irrelevant stats……top 10 in defense has lead them where statboy? A tenth seeded playin mediocre can’t beat tanking teams mess.
i dont think statman watches the games he just goes to these nerdy websites copies and pastes.here
You said that Cam Thomas is better than Herro and would be the 2nd best player on the Heat besides Bam. Just after you said that Cam Thomas was waived again. He’s one of the worst defenders in the entire NBA. It’s clear you look at ppg and not FG%, defense or net rating. I bring it up because it shows you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Show me were statboy. Lmao cam Thomas and herro are the same herro is just loved here more because he’s pats grandson dumb statboy. Again all your stats where has it gotten this team jackass
On Cam Thomas vs Herro and Larsson you said
“Take Thomas over both matter of fact over everybody on the team besides bam”
He was out of the rotation soon after you wrote that, waived a month later
https://hothothoops.com/2026/02/24/nba-gamethread-miami-heat-31-27-milwaukee-bucks-24-31/#comments
Again herro Thomas what’s the difference burgling statboy. This team is full of cam Thomas type players one way trash yt boys how bout that?
No life having ass, spent hours looking huh loser ass
If I was going to keep Herro or Powell, I would keep Powell. Powell is generally considered a slightly better/more serviceable defender than Herro. He is often described as a solid, capable defender compared to Herro’s limitations. While both are primarily offensive players, Powell offers more consistency defensively. Furthermore, he would be far cheaper to keep than Herro. Powell is probably available to Miami at $25M-$30M year/3 years. Since no extension deal was reached with Herro by October 2025, he could be eligible for a four-year max extension for roughly $206.9M, beginning in the 2027 offseason. Finally, Powell has played an average of 63.5 games per year over the past 4 years. Herro has averaged 54.7 games.
Wiggins may opt in, so it may be wisest to trade Herro and look for a sign & trade for Powell. If he opts in, Wiggins can either be kept as a solid two-way player or used as part of a trade (along with Herro and draft picks) for a ss.
Personally, I think Miami should use 2026-2027 as a gap year. It would give the Heat an opportunity to continue developing existing personnel, drafting and developing 2 first round lottery picks and a second rounder (2026 & 2027), plus any young prospects and new players (including any additional draft picks) acquired in trades.
For the past 4 offseasons, Miami has put all its eggs in one basket seeking a ss. All 4 attempts have failed miserably, leaving the Heat with few options, other than settling for players who ensure continued medicocrity. That approach does not work. Newer, more progressive thinking is needed.
As far as the 2027 draft prospects, several 2026 draft prospects have decided not to participate in pre-draft workouts, others have decided to remain in college and still others have decided to test the waters while leaving the door open to return to college. NBA draft prospects can “test the waters” and return to college, but only if they withdraw from the draft by May 27, 2026 and do not sign with an agent or an NBA team. If a player remains in the draft and goes undrafted, they can also return to college if they did not sign with an agent.
Problems with the gap year strategy for Miami – how can a team take a gap year if its best players are healthy? You’d have to trade Bam to take a gap year, which means you’re tanking.
Miami would keep their 2027 pick in that case, but who would they use it on? Teams were tanking for Dybantsa, Peterson, Love etc this year, but no one similar is at the top of the 2027 draft. Players staying out of this draft for next year may weaken the overall depth of this draft, but it doesn’t change the lack of talent at the top for 2027, it’s just going to result in some being taken higher next year than they would go this year.
So if Miami tanked/took a gap year, they would add a top pick in what has been called a historically weak draft class in 2027 with no clear #1 pick. Then since the 2028 Miami pick goes to CHA and is unprotected, they’d have to go from one of the worst teams in the league in 2027 to a playoff team the next year to avoid sending CHA a 2028 lottery pick/chance at #1 overall.
Indiana took a gap year this year without Haliburton, used their top 4 draft position to get Zubac and still has a chance to keep their pick. Next year they should be a contender again. Personally I don’t see any parallel between what they did this year and what Miami could do next year, and they only did that due to injury.
I also don’t agree with the idea that Miami has put all their eggs in one basket. This year was a development year – Larsson, Jakucionas, Jaquez emerged this year. Mitchell had the best year of his career as a starting PG, Bam showed more on offense. Age wise the team got younger by 2 years average overall from last season to this one. It’s not a particularly old or expensive team. No idea what happens this offseason but should have a lot of options.
*Dybantsa, Peterson, Wilson
Agreed. Though I am curious who we should replace them with…any thoughts on next year’s FA’s?
That’s a good question. There are not a lot of options in this upcoming offseason. I have mentioned Alexander-Walker if he chooses not to resign with the Hawks.
give kj gardner looks become a bad ass team those teams win games tylers teams dont.
I have agreed from the beginning about Keshad. They can’t know what they have in him until he gets real minutes. I want to see more of Gardner too.
Along with Alexander-walker like Czech said, there is also 2 way combo guards like grimes, dort, ayo. Then there is cj, coby, smart, kpj, oubre. Also some options for pf/c are jusuf, timelord, mo Wagner, dean wade, sochan, yabu, saric, Zach Collins.
If We lose all 3, I would go with maybe go with young 2 way players like ayo,and grimes, and a 2 way pf like Barnes maybe .
You get that back, now you’re talking. I only wish it would work out that well. I think we lose Powell and Wiggins, and not be able to trade Herro. Just my guess. Herro’s going to be hard to move. And we better get someone younger, but with potential. for both the two we lose or we are going to be in some trouble. We don’t have the younger players that good to replace them, at least not yet.
Being on an expiring contract should make Herro appealing to teams. A team that needs a proven scorer could take a flyer on him without offering an extension. His current salary is reasonable for what he adds. The question is, what would the Heat get back from that team.
I feel you, and I’m hoping Wiggins comes back ,cuz he’s harder to replace, but if herro comes back alone, we should try to at least get ayo, who would be the cheaper 2 way player with a higher upside, and build up to the next season, cuz we will still be trash .
All are peripheral players who do not move the needle. You’re still talking about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic (year #5).
Turtle asked a question and I just answered it, sure maybe what you say Is right, but if you lose all 3, then we would still need to replace that production, and what better way to do than replacing them all with 2 way players. Even if u say Barnes doesn’t fit the timeline, we can sign another young pf/c, or draft one and save money. It would still be another gap year, and we still would chase a star in 2027, if we don’t one in 2026. Either way Can’t go wrong with adding more young 2 way players, who can both shoot 3s at average to above average, and that can both potentially score 15 a game .
I would rather accumulate young players and draft picks on rookie contracts and not worry about remaining a play-in caliber team. Not having expensive players on the books, other than Bam, gives Miami a chance to give the team’s younger players, (current, newly drafted and those acquired in trades) plenty of playing time in order for them to gain experience and fast track their development.
I feel you and i agree to a certain extent, but You said” I would rather accumulate young players” both grimes and ayo are both 25 and 26, not even in there prime, but still ascending. At the very least we should get one to add to the core. Rozier and fonzi are gone, I doubt we will hold on to all 3 of wiggy, powell, and herro. if i had it my way i would only want wiggy back . Also everyone on here is clamoring for a young 2 way prospect and ayo or grimes fits the bill. Especially since next year draft will be the weakest in awhile. It won’t hurt getting one of the two, and if they want, they can give one of them a 2 year deal with a team option, so they still can still get out of the contract, and chase a star in year 2027. Riley doesn’t tank(which isn’t smart for a team that needs rebuilding)cuz if he did we would of had Cooper flag last season. Also he’s a screw the draft picks type of gm, lastly old dogs don’t learn new tricks.
Yes
Yes, all three should go. All good, but not right players for Heat.
Matt is seeing things as I am. I don’t dislike any of the 3. Each has skills that can help a team, but it wouldn’t surprise me if all 3 were gone.
Jovic?
Only as potential salary filler. Would be nearly impossible to trade him straight up for anyone.
I agree. However, he could have a good summer, like Jaime did last year and come back an entirely different, more confident and more determined player. He has the size to be a good SF/PF. However, he must first get rid of his baggage/self-doubts, decide what kind of player he wants/needs to be and do whatever it takes to become that player. No one can fix him. He has to fix himself (with a little help from a sports therapist and 1:1 coaching). Jovic can learn a lot about physical assertiveness and self-confidence from Bam, Jaquez, Larsson, Mitchell, Jakucionis, Johnson, Gardner and Smith.
At minimum, he could be easier to trade.
I always believed, that Avdija could be a model for him. He was actually for the first 3 years, when Avdija had very similar stats then Jovic.
Avdija made a jump in a year 4, and Jovic didnt. Avdija stayed on similar level in year 5, and put together all star level season in year 6.
So there is still hope. He has everything to be a good player in NBA.
Whereas Pelle and Kas had a level of maturity beyond their age, Jovic is particularly immature, like a child who is shocked when something doesn’t go their way. He absolutely has to grow up and work hard to be the best player he can be. The size and skill level are there. So far, the drive and dedication are not. I also think they should stop trying to play him at center. That is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. He’s more a tall sf who can play some pf in a pinch.
he needs to find his shooting touch he cant drive here so practice 1000 jumpers a day
I’ve seen him drive, but I haven’t seen him finish.
cant drive means ball never goes in net
No. That’s what doesn’t finish means. When Jaquez drives to the basket and misses, according to your definition, he didn’t drive. That’s funny.
I agree about not playing him out of position at center. I too think he is a natural combo SF/PF. I also agree he is immature and has a feeling of entitlement. That may be because he played so well alongside Jokic last summer.
Sometimes, the best thing that can happen to a person is to have an “attitude adjustment” with a good serving of humility. Jocic came into camp last year assuming he had a starting position and would be able to play a finesse/soft SF/PF. He was wrong!
Humility has a way of expediting a person’s maturation process. That is exactly what Jovic needs in order for him to refocus his efforts in order to evolve into the player he has the potential of being.
I hope Riley’s total mishandling of Jovic’s extension last summer does not adversely impact negotiations/offers for Jaquez and Larsson this summer. If, in Riley’s eyes, Jovic is worth $62.2M/$15.6M per year, what are Jaquez and Larssen worth?
