Why? We still have a shot at 7th. Although admittedly, we’re a better road team than home this season.

What difference does the 7th or 8th make, if I may ask?

Reply to  Alien

Initially, I felt that the play in game would be at home if we overtook the Sixers, which normally would be an advantage. Then I remembered our road record is actually better than our home record this season, so being in 7th for the play-in likely makes no difference.
Of course, if we ended up as 7th seed for the playoffs, it could be a big difference as we’d open up against the Bucks instead of the Celtics.

Lets go 7th! 😁

And you think the Heat’s chances are better with the Bucks?

Considering the Celtics are the most dominant team in the NBA this season? Seems clearly a yes. I also think we match up better with the Bucks.

If I had a choice I will prefer Celtics because they lack character in the face if adversity. The Bucks in contrast are more resilient team and have championship pedigree. Against both teams this season , this present Heat will be out in 4, at most 6.

Bucks are 4-6 in last 10 and the team they trail by 14 games, Boston, is 7-3. If Heat players get healthy, they may be able to hold their own as #7 team vs #2 and as second round team vs winner of #3 vs #6. Unless Boston has an injury to one of top 3, they would be pretty tough to beat. This year’s team is much better than last year with Jrue and Portzingis. Strong bench too. Only way to compete is if Miami has lock down defense and is hitting 3’s. Otherwise, they will get buried.

I have seen the games Boston lost this season inspite of having their full compliment of star players. It boils down to the same old issue the team loosing composure when it matters. That is very important inspite of the amount of skills they have. My 1 cent still prefers Boston to Bucks. Heat is one team that can ruffle Bostons composure when it matters.

Reality Czech

Totally agree. Even if they have had problems in their losses, the reality is they’ve only had 17! losses the entire season. I’m sure they’ve maintained pretty good composure in those 62 wins. I’m not suggesting we couldn’t beat either as long as we’re on our A+ game, but we could lose to either as well. To me, the additions of Holiday and Porzingis was a significant upgrade and their record is a reflection of that.

I’ll say it again. Jovic, the guy who isn’t an NBA player and should go back to Europe, has earned the permanent starting pf job.

His defense isn’t up to par yet, but his rebounding, and offensive bag are just far too valuable. His performance in the second half of the year, covers up the disappearance of Jaquez, who clearly seems to have hit the rookie wall. Both of them should be back next year. Everyone else? I’m less confident.

I mean an average player who is 20 years old is someone you develop and hope they become a star. He’s got a long way to go, but the potential is clear.

Reality Czech

Doesn’t even need to be a star, just a solid starter would be great.
He’s trending in the right direction for sure.

I will not consider him a permanent starter unless he spends 6 months consistently in that role. Bam and Jimmy are the only permanent starters the Heat have for now.

Reality Czech

I mean a permanent starter at this point in time, not necessarily next season or years to come. For that, like you say, he’d have to show both consistency and continue to improve.

Alien
Alien

Reply to  Reality Czech

Precisely, at this point he is not a permanent starter. Only Bam and Jimmy are. If in two weeks from now, the Heat are lucky to get out of the play in, Spo might find a different role for him as a bench player. He is still a role player coming off with the starting 5 at this point and not a permanent starter. I don’t see neither Bam nor Jimmy coming off from the bench, so they are what you will consider permanent starters. Jovic’s position is very fluid, so in that sense he is not a permanent starter and this is not a knock on his abilities, capabilities and potentials.

Reality Czech

If he keeps playing well, he is unlikely to go back to the bench. He has started like 20 games in a row. If everyone is healthy, I believe it’ll be Bam, Jovic, Butler, Herro, and Rozier. Time will tell.

Sure, bring in a better player and he could go back to the bench. Randle, yes. Collin’s, not so sure.

From Tobin:
“Nikola Jović Shines In Miami Heat Double Overtime Win vs Hawks | Tyler Herro Pours In 33 Points”

From Locked On Heat:
”How Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler & Nikola Jovic Fueled the Miami Heat’s 2OT Win Over the Hawks”

From Coup NBA.com:
”Coup’s Takeaways : HEAT Outlast Hawks In Double Overtime Behind Tyler Herro And Nikola Jovic”

And, from right here on HHH:
“The real story of the game for Miami could have been the performance of Nikola Jovic. At just 20 years old, Jovic showcased his talents in a career outing with 23 points and 8 rebounds on 8/12 shooting, 5/8 from 3-point range, including a huge corner triple in the overtime periods.
His development as the team’s starting power forward in the front court next to Bam Adebayo has been promising and the brightest spot of the Heat’s entire regular season.”

No need to remind me about using the word “permanent”. Things are subject to change. I’ll just say knowledgeable people are seeing his progress and potential.

I will be first to admit I didn’t think he was ready to assume more minutes. I was wrong. He has surprised me. He is ahead of the pace I saw a few months ago. It was a smart move giving him more playing time and expediting his development. I hope he continues to develop as the season/playoffs continue. At 20 years of age, his potential is unlimited.

Once Rozier is 100% the offense should be even better. Same with Duncan. HH is filling in admirably. If he can play defense and knock down a few 3’s a game he can be a vital part of the playoff rotation. What’s going on with Kevin Love? Is he hurt or what? Jaquez lost his mojo when he got hurt and hasn’t found it since. Wright is a good Swiss Army Knife to have in the arsenal.

Jovic might be our best player at getting to the rim. Crazy to think, be he seems confident when he drives, the rest of the team, not so much.

Good night for Herro, Jovic. I should give Jimmy credit, but those possessions at the end of regulation and end of ot1 are just kind of unforgivable.

The rest of the team had rough nights.

How can our final shot possessions always come down to Jimmy wasting 15 seconds, picking up his dribble early, and either forcing a bad shot, getting a teammate a bad look or turning it over? Seriously Spo, all the time this year.
