Miami Heat set to face Washington Wizards in Mexico City for upcoming season

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat will return to Mexico City for the 2024-2025 season.

The Miami Heat are reportedly scheduled for a trip to Mexico City to open up the 2024-2025 NBA season. They will face the Washington Wizards in what will be the 33rd game in history to take place Mexico. That marks the most in any country outside the U.S and Canada.

It will be the Heat’s third game there, and the first since their win in the country back during the 2022-2023 season. The regular season game against the Wizards is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Here’s what executives are saying about the matchup:

NBA Mexico Senior Vice President and Managing Director Raul Zarraga:

“Bringing the Heat and the Wizards to Mexico City next season in conjunction with ‘Día de los Muertos’ will mark another special milestone in the NBA’s long history in Mexico.   The game and surrounding events will serve as the ultimate celebration of the NBA for fans in Mexico and across Latin America at a time when the momentum around basketball in the region is at an all-time high.”

Zignia Live Director Alejandro Arce Saldívar:

“We are grateful to the NBA for the trust they have placed in us to bring the best basketball in the world to Mexico.  We are confident that fans will have a unique experience at Arena CDMX.  We thank the league, the teams, and of course the fans, whose response makes it possible to bring this type of event to our country.”

President of The HEAT Group’s Business Operations Eric Woolworth:

“We are excited to return to Mexico City to bring a little of Miami’s HEAT to the passionate fans of such a vibrant city.  Participating in these NBA Global Games allows us to engage with a broader basketball-loving community.”

President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger:

“We are delighted at the opportunity to represent the NBA and Washington, D.C. at the Global Games and are proud that our team reflects the growing globalization of the NBA.  Previous Washington Bullets and Wizard teams have had the opportunity of playing in Mexico City.  We are honored to follow in their footsteps and look forward to introducing this new Wizards team to NBA fans in Mexico City.”

My dude! No doubt one of our guys is going to find it and bring it back in his bag. I will be keeping an eye on performances in this one.

We gotta bring Justise back for this game. He can be the new J-Rich. But based on Riley’s comment on availability, it’s a longshot

I had such high hopes. I remember going to a game vs the Bulls when Justise was starting to pick it up. His point Justise days. I’m there early and he comes out with a shooting coach and goes through the same 3pt shots they do at the All Star game competition. He hit 4 of 5 from each spot. I recall thinking oh man he is close to breaking out. It never happened. But he did stomp Embiid’s face mask and for that he is a Heat Lifer 😛
