Sometimes, you wake up, and you see something new every day that you never thought you’d see.
The 2024-25 NBA Season isn’t technically over, but it is for the Miami Heat, who were mercifully swept in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers last month.
They will have bigger fish to fry over the next several weeks with the NBA Draft and free agency, but the team’s social media account brought light to a very random mishap regarding Bam Adebayo’s name on Friday. When users searched for “Bam Adebayo,” his name would randomly appear as “Bam Bowman” for no apparent reason.
They followed up by sharing an interaction between them and the Heat’s two-time All-Star, appearing almost as confused as the rest of us.
Another error ensued–instead of Bam Bowman, it was later changed to Bam Adeboye. If Miami’s 6-foot-9 big attempted to run with a fake last name in public, that’s much closer to what it would’ve been instead of “Bowman.”
So close, yet so far.
Everyone had their fun with the whole interaction. Google eventually got its home page back to saying “Bam Adebayo,” though the team jokingly made a pair of jersey wallpapers with both “Bowman” and “Adeboye” on the back regarding the two mishaps.
Who knew that we would have a day where Google would make multiple (hilarious) mistakes regarding an All-Star’s name for no reason? We will likely never know what it stemmed from–some sort of back-end error?–if there were any at all. But whatever gets us through this long offseason, am I right? Who’s it going to be next?!?
