Miami’s comeback falls short as Maxey, Lowry lead Philadelphia to 98-91 home win

The Miami Heat’s comeback fell short in Philadelphia on Monday night as the 76ers held on late in the fourth quarter to beat their conference rivals for the first time this season, 98-91.

Miami trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half but tied the contest in the final minutes of the fourth period. The Heat then went cold from the field while former teammate Kyle Lowry scored two big baskets to provide Philadelphia the separation it needed to avoid a collapse.

Bam Adebayo finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with 13 rebounds and 6 assists. He went 2-of-2 from downtown, now making his last five shot attempts from deep. Terry Rozier also scored 20 points but needed 21 shot attempts to get there.

As a team Miami converted only 39% from the field on the second night of a back-to-back.

Caleb Martin’s hustle and energy was major key for Miami’s late bid to win the contest. He registered 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. It was his breakaway lay-up that tied the game at 85-all. He also scored the Heat’s final four points.

Tyrese Maxey had 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists to spearhead Philadelphia, while Lowry finished with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

The win improved the 76ers to 38-30 and dropped the Heat to 37-31 in a tight Eastern Conference race to the postseason. Miami is now a half-game back of No. 7 Indiana and a full game behind No. 6 Philadelphia.

Miami is back in action on Wednesday when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And another thing…
The Heat have scored 100 or fewer points 16 times this season, fourth most in the NBA. Miami is 2-14 in those contests, including losses to Denver and Philadelphia last week.

heat for life

great stat sunman.injuries have killed the season so far.i think they are being very cautious with the injury prone players to make sure they are healthy for the real season.if the playoffs started tomorrow i think ty love and commercial man would play

SunManFromDogBone

Yup. They sure are missing the scoring. With key players out opponents can focus on double teaming Bam and/or Butler, depending on the situation. With Bam, Butler, Herro, Rozier and Love or Caleb, it isn’t so easy to double team. Hopefully we get to see the team at full strength at some point. Otherwise, it’s going to be a very miserable 3 weeks and a very short postseason.

ZechMerquise

Fact is, were mediocre if 2 out of big 3 is out (bam, jimmy, herro). We can live if just one of them is out, but if 2 or all of them are out, then were worse than the pistons

oregoner

yep. Probably true about any team in the league. Heat can’t win if they can’t get healthy

heat for life

a problem that doesnt get mentioned is jjj caleb hh not playing good last couple months,

oregoner

i think Caleb has really found his rhythm over the past month or so. Jamie is hitting the wall. HH hasn’t been the same since the all-star break. Also Love and J-Rich and Herro are out. Jimmy has missed a bunch of games. That’s a big chunk of the rotation that just isn’t contributing

SunManFromDogBone

Caleb’s own worst enemy is Caleb. He often plays out of control, makes unnecesary turnovers, forces shots instead of looking for open players and doesn’t think. He tries to do too much.

oregoner

yeah, but he also defends like hell, rebounds, gets to the rim, and makes a surpirsing percentage of his threes. I’ll take the bad with the good. I think Caleb is a really good player

heat for life

does lots good things but lots of bad out of control not thinking plays, average player.

ManilaHeat

And now Dunc is hurt and will not be available for Cavs match due to back problems. Anyone here available for a 10 game deal?

Big_guy305

I’m definitely available for that, and I don’t mind riding the bench, I’ll let Jamal Cain get all of minutes too, but real talk I hope he gets some good pt with dunc out, we could sure use his length,Defense, rebounding, and saviness around the basket.

oregoner

Get Caron Butler a uniform!

heat for life

all bam has to do put the arm up i want the ball.hes to passive sun .not an alpha personality.no excuse bams fault not wanting ball.all he has to do is tell his teammates im the best player i want the fn ball.

SunManFromDogBone

All Bam has to do is have a team around him that can make a shot. Put him with OKC, Lakers, Knicks, Sacto, Dallas or any of several other teams and they win a title. Jus sayin.

Big_guy305

I agree with that , there is only so much bam can do when the paint getting packed, and getting double teamed. Dunc was hurt, so other players had to make shots to open up the floor for bam and they failed. Once bam gets consistent 3 pt shot, he won’t have to worry about getting doubled or a crowded paint.

SunManFromDogBone

AMEN!

Alien

Exactly the point I made in early January before the trade. A new pg will not make guys make the shots that they should be making.

SunManFromDogBone

The Heat needed a PG AND a PF/C. They got the PG for Lowry and a pick. They didn’t get frontcourt help for Bam by trading Herro.

ZechMerquise

Bam is not an offensive player, we gotta accept that. He’s not a 2-way player..player like that is very expensive in this league. Its either we accept that, or we trade him. I mean, his career high is 41 pts

SunManFromDogBone

Ban is the epitome of a two-way player. One of the very few NBA players who can defend 1-5 positions. What Bam is not is a team’s #1 scorer. If Butler or Herro can’t be that elite scorer, then Miami can’t be an elite team. Maybe it’s time to trade them both for an elite scorer and and a frontcourt upgrade. Donovan Mitchell and John Collins or Lauri Markkenan work for me.

Reality Czech

Exactly. A guy averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds a game who plays stout defense is undeniably a 2 way player.

oregoner

Bam is probably the 2nd best Center in the league besides Jokic, unless you want to count injured Embiid or fools gold Gobert. If you don’t appreciate him, that’s a you problem. Bam is awesome

heat for life

a davis kat sabonis wembayama as good or better,

SunManFromDogBone

Put Bam with Wemby, Davis or Sabonis as a PF and they would tear shit up!

Big_guy305

Wish we had won this game that lost was disappointing. These injuries are hurting us, I’ve noticed that one of our biggest weaknesses besides size are INJURIES, ever since we got Jimmy. Everytime we’re in the regular season, playoffs, finals we’re always dealing with multiple injuries. I pray we get healthier soon cuz mills ain’t cutting it. I haven’t lost hope yet, so neither should y’all. The reason for that is last year we made a miraculous trip to finals when I thought we was dead in the water, and before that multiple deep runs and another finals appearance. Point is the heat always find a way to defy the odds when the chips are stacked against them. So I’m keeping hope alive, now if the heat lose in the first round… then that’s a different story. If that happens then major changes need to happen. Lastly Jimmy is doing way too many commercials lately, he needs to get back ASAP for the stretch run, also need love ,and herro back, 2nd easiest schedule doesn’t mean squat when we’re missing so many players.

donovan mitchell evan mobley og agunoby julius randle jalen brunson kristaps porzingis joel embid.happens to everybody big

ManilaHeat

Heat lost of personnel playing time in terms of minutes due to injuries is next to guess what teams? Portland and Memphis. Blazers bottom feeder and out of pos and Grizz will follow soon. I say good job to the Heat org managing this season considering their challenging situation. And yes there’s still hope. Regarding Jimmy, maybe he’s trying to cash in $$$ outside so he could accept a lower contract and still wear a Heat jersey lol

Big_guy305

Exactly 💯 , also not to mention we have 32 starting lineup changes, which is top 3 in the league. Furthermore I hope you’re right abou Jimmy doing those commercials, so he can take take a paycut his next contract. If he really is a disciple of wade, he would adjust his ego take a paycut like wade to give us more flexibility…if he really wants to win the chip.

heat for life

what does spo have up his sleeve alien hmmm inquiring minds would like to know

Alien

I don’t know but he seems cool like this will all work out to our favor.

heat for life

no shots for bam in 2nd half.player to build around lol.thats hard to believe a bam scratcher

heat for life

what % of blame on bam, spo, teammates got it bam 75 spo 20 teammates 5

SunManFromDogBone

What about the country western star/commercial guy? 0% Blame? At least Bam shows up to play and can hit a 3 point game winner. Jus sayin.
P.S. What about Riley? He’s the one who insists on keeping Herro while his value plummets instead of swapping him for a PF/C. Another 0% blame?

heat for life

agree riley has failed to make major upgrades.roziers ok not a real diff maker ,butler gets alot of blame of course ,but during the game its up to the best player to want the ball and make something happen its a mind set unacceptable from bam last nights game is on him

Big_guy305

Jimmy definitely deserves some blame because he could of played, even 20 minutes would suffice from him. Also Riley to a certain extent gets blame. He could of been made a trade Herro for that pf/c, if he really wanted to but maybe the market wasn’t good enough for herro, since the last 2 playoffs for herro been underwhelming either being hurt or playing like trash. So I think Riley season was banking on growth from herro this season. Herro has shown some growth defensively and offensively, but the writing is already on the wall because is he’s injury prone now. I do hope has a very good playoffs, so it will increase his value whenever Riley decides to trade him.

SunManFromDogBone

Riley painted himself into a corner by saying he would only trade Herro for a top 5 player in the league. WTF?
“We have never shopped him and had no interest in ever trading the guy,” Riley said of Herro, according to the Associated Press. “But when you’re talking about acquiring one of the top five players in the league, there isn’t anybody on our team that won’t be discussed.”

heat for life

patty mills why the f is he on the ct.if jamal cain is guarding maxey that shot most likely aint going in .spos clueless at times with the right personnel, and subbing guys out while there cooking.not good enough without coffee commercial man

Alien

Relax man! Somewhere, somehow, I suspect that Spo is holding back something, one else knows about. Time shall tell.

heat for life

i cant relax when a teammate of tony parker and tim duncan is playing

Alien

Good one.

heat for life

can patty get us manu for the stretch run

Alien

….and Duncan to help Bam.

vagibugi

It doesn’t look too bright at the moment, but hey, we are missing half of the team.
Defence is solid, but we need scoring.
Without Butler, Herro, and Dunc this is a real problem.

Heat looks totally different team, when it scores 110 points a game.

Alien

I shall repeat what I posted out to Heat for life.

Relax man! Somewhere, somehow, I suspect that Spo is holding back something, one else knows about. Time shall tell.

SunManFromDogBone

Whom is this mysterious “one else” you speak of?

heat for life

think he meant no one else sun

Alien

I know our views are as divergent as they can possibly be. “No one else” means what it is and is not an indirect reference to you or anyone else. No need to be paranoid about it. If it makes you feel better, I will plug in “I ,me, myself, Alien” in place of ” no one else”.

Reality Czech

I don’t think there was any paranoia at all. I think it was a mild joke as you wrote ‘one else’ and not ‘[no] one else’ each time.

Alien

Am I bad.

Reality Czech

Are you bad? Or, my bad (as in typo)? As to the former if it was a question, no, I don’t think you’re bad. Just a person with a different opinion.

SunManFromDogBone

Just because I’m paranoid it doesn’t mean people aren’t out to get me.

heat for life

are u still in uranus or have u moved

heat for life

ManilaHeat

Lowry revenge game. Games getting fewer and fewer. Losses taking Heat nearer and nearer towards play-in. And this season I feel the Butler era will close hope he stays but take in less money to make way for major changes. For now lets get that #6 slot healthy or otherwise. Was hoping for a 20-7 record after the break but got 6 losses already.

Alien

Lowry, I see you o!
