I like Nurse, he is one of the best coaches in the league, one of the few, who can match Spo.
He did his job last night.
Both teams are a perfect example, why you need top talent to win games and why playing hard is just not enough.
Martin was great and terrible at the same time. weird game for him.
After watching those two Pistons games, I saw this coming from a mile away. I didn’t see the game tonight but I’ll check out the next two against the Cavs and the Pellies.
The problem is pretty obvious. Before the season, we were all crowing about the Heat depth and how they were 10-deep. Well, since then they’ve lost J-Rich, Dru, Herro, Lowry, Butler, and Love. I guess they added Rozier. But when this team is relying on Patty Mills, Delon Wright, and Thomas Bryant to be the 7-9 players off the bench, they’re in trouble.
The injuries and inconsistency have definitely hurt. However, I can confirm that the Heat did, indeed, add Rozier. The last 3 games, he’s scored 20, 17, and 18 points. He didn’t come here as a savior that was going to carry the team. He came as an addition to upgrade the point guard position. And he has. He’s a good complimentary piece, a guy meant to be the #3 or #4 option on the team.
yeah I don’t think Rozier is a bad player. But I don’t think he’s better than Herro. I’m not sure if he is better than J-Rich or Lowry. And I think it’s unrealistic to expect him to save this team that is playing two guards they got on the buyout market.
If Rozier was fighting for minutes in a guard rotation with Herro, J-Rich, and Duncan, I think he would have been a great addition to the team this season. But with two of those guys out and Butler missing games, I just don’t think he’s good enough to fill up the gap in the roster
Rozier is doing what he was brought here to do. The problem is he hasn’t played with all the regulars and is being expected to pick up the scoring slack for Herro, Butler, Duncan and Bam when they are out or cold AF. He wasn’t brought in to be the team’s savior and is doing the best he can. Dude had 20 points and 8 rebounds tonight. WTF?
I’ve never suggested that Rozier is better than Herro. I do think he is more a starter than J Rich or Lowry at this stage. Lowry has had a stellar career and there’s no way Rozier will match it, but he is on the downside of that career now. He’s similar to Love in that way – a guy with a high bb IQ who can still give you some good minutes.
The addition of Rozier on paper makes the Heat look better but on court result the story is worse than that. So it is not surprising that the current 8th seed standing is not better than where the Heat were last season. One would have thought that if his addition made the Heat better, we should not be battling to stay out of the play in tournament. To prove that Rozier is better than Lowry, the argument is that Rozier is averaging 17 points a game while Lowry averaged 9 points a game. They don’t tell you the other side of the story, i.e Bam and Herro’s averages have both dropped by about 4 points each.In order words, Rozier pulled points from Bam and Herro and added those to Lowry’s 9 points to get his 17 pts. That is the real statistics. I pointed this before the trade, that one should expect the average of one Heat’s 3 leading scorers (Butler,Bam and Herro) to drop which often happens, only very few players in the league make other players better. I did not expect that his addition was going to cause a drop in the average of two players instead of one player. The addition of Rozier has made no difference IMHO at least as per standings. Heat’s man issues remain, mismatches, guys not making open shots and the additional problem of lack bench depth since the loss JRich , Love and moving JJJ from the 2nd unit to a starter in some games. The real effect of adding a pg to the Heat should be measured by the averages of Heat’s leading scorers before and after the trade and also by the current standing in the ECF. That is a broader way to view the effect of his addition. Pointing to Rozier’s average points per game is a tunnel vision approach IMHO.
Soooooooo, if the Heat and the Sixers end up 7 &8 and Embiid, Harris, Covington and Melton are back and we lose to them in the first play-in game, we must beat the winner of the Hawks and the Bulls for the right to play Boston in the first round? Sounds like a plan. If Heat can get their s*** together in the next few weeks maybe they can jump past Philly and Pacers into 6th place. At least then we might get Cavs, Knicks or Magic in the first round.
calm down guys. lets save the ‘trade jimmy/bam’ chatters in the offseason. we stil have 14 games to get that 6th seed

Caleb struggled this game offensively but was still great on d. If those open 3 attempts fell even a couple of em then Dunc added some more…well, we’ll never know now. Kudos to Sixers they played well both ends

Yes, I am sorry, but that is what I think. It is hard to envision us going far. I am tired of pretending to be optimistic. Maybe I shouldn’t comment anymore as I don’t like criticizing. But, I think it’s important to be honest, at least once.
I feel you but I’m still optimistic until the fat lady sings and Heat officially out. Wether the play-in, the first rd or the next which if they reach even the second rd id be happy. More and more fans are already counting them out. To see is to believe. And we are seeing crap lol. But hope can be rewarding. 3% may even be less come playoffs. Still….go Heat!!

I don’t think he can carry us anymore. And he misses a lot more games now. And he isn’t quite the same when he is in. He used to often score like two thirds of our points in crunch time. That’s not happening lately as much. So, to answer your question, yes, he is saving up his strength for the playoffs on some level. But, I also think he has just started to fade and has about 95% of his skills he had last year. He is still a very good player, but you can’t call him a superstar anymore. And the effort he has to give to be that good wears him out now and causes him to miss games.

For context:
Lowry and the Heat beat the sixers thrice last year , 2 games with and 1 game without Embiid playing. If my memory serves me right. The sixers beat us once last year. Last year the regular season series ended 3-1 in favor of the Heat.This year is 1-1 so far.

I stand to be corrected, bench players get rings if their team wins a championship irrespective of the players’ played or not. Not yo talk of a player who played in the 3 games that the Heat beat the Sixers. Excuses never play well.

It was a younger Lowry, at about 90% of his Toronto skills, and it was superstar Jimmy. And there was Gabe, and an occasional VO., and Strus. And the opposition was not quite as good, except Philly without Embiid. That was then, this is now.

Bam cnt carry a team on his own. Yet. Opponents know how to easily defend him already. Those open missed shots is what killed us this game. And other games. The defense is there just hoping thet can “turn it on” again. The soonest.

Look at the outrageous packages that teams were getting for players who are not nearly as good as Butler. Butler is the perfect addition for a team that is one piece away. He brings scoring, savvy, intensity, defense.
Players making less, some much less than Butler include Doncic, Booker, Garland, Morant, Mitchell, J Murray, Shai, and Fox, amongst others.
look at what the dolphins are going to pay tua way more than the best qbs.u got a great player when motivated and healthy but jimmys 37 not that motivated never healthy so its a tough call,if u trade him away u will not be a good team though unless u get a player of almost equal ability,which is highly unlikely.draft choices are no guarantee of anything.tough call on jimmy

He is our best player who plays most nights, but he has no big man support. You can build a team around him with three draft picks and a rotation big man, Rozier, and ….? Who am I kidding, our next best player is Caleb and we are losing him too. Going to be a rough next few years, but let the rebuild begin. You can’t sign Jimmy again, can’t count on him anymore.

When Caleb is tied for our third best player with Rozier, and our best player can’t be counted on to play in big games, and when several of our other players tend to wilt in big games, you just can’t compete. We were always too dependent on Jimmy, and we can’t depend on him anymore. Sorry, that will be my last negative assessment of our team. I get no pleasure in saying this stuff, only displeasure.
All I can say anymore is….Go Heat! May you figure this all out and come back stronger next year.

This loss hurts. Damn it! Look at the box score. It is telling as to who was up to it and who wilted under pressure. We needed Jimmy, but it’s also clear how mediocre this team is. No denying it anymore. With Embiid they would rout us even fully healthy. It’s been hard on us all trying to believe when almost every good team we play, we get beat.

I don’t believe we are a championship contender with him at this point. You can find an A or A+ player for the $45 million he’s getting.
And they have hidden the mediocrity with all the injuries so it’s been hard to be sure. But, it is right there if you just try to be objective. And, Jimmy not being available when we need him is getting old too. I am ready to say goodbye to Emo Jimmy. We should send him and his coffee business somewhere else, get all we can for him. And, I was maybe his biggest supporter, but, time to move on.

I don’t know if I gave up on the team. Actually, I never really give up on them. But I haven’t agreed with anyone who thought we could get back to the finals with this roster. Big Guy nailed it – the Heat have improved the roster this season, but other teams have improved more, much more.
