Miami Heat guard Alondes Williams has been named the NBA G-League’s most improved player for the 2023-24 season, the league announced Friday.

Williams averaged 20.3 points on 49.8 percent shooting, in addition to 5.3 rebounds. 7.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks in 43 combined regular season and G-League showcase games this season. In 27 regular season games, he averaged 21.7 points on 52.2 percent shooting and 37.7 percent from 3-point range–equating to a 60.1 effective field goal percentage with a 65.5 true-shooting percentage.

He broke the Skyforce’s single-game scoring record on Jan. 7 against Salt Lake City, scoring 55 points on 17-of-30 shooting to go along with eight boards and seven assists. The record was previously held by Scotty Hopson (52 points) in the 2014-15 season against the Reno Bighorns (who is now the Stockton Kings).

Williams, who turns 25-years-old in June, is in his second NBA season, but first in the Miami Heat organization. As an undrafted rookie, he spent 2022-23 in the Brooklyn Nets organization with the Long Island Nets.

The Skyforce earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and will host the Oklahoma City Blue–the Thunder’s G-League affiliate–Friday night at 9:00 p.m. EST in the quarterfinals. Williams will be honored before the game, per the release.

Cain and Williams could, and imo, should, both be on the roster next season.

Agree. There should be a few spots open after the season.
