Eric Amsler wins 2023-24 NBA G-League Executive of Year award - Hot Hot Hoops

Sioux Falls Skyforce general manager and Miami Heat Vice President of Player Personnel Eric Amsler has won the 2023-24 NBA G-League Executive of the Year award, the league announced Friday.

“As appreciative as I am for this award, and the votes from my colleagues from across the G League, this award is a total group effort, starting with Kasib Powell and his entire staff who work tirelessly in Sioux Falls with our players,” Amsler said via release. “The role of coach in the G League is amongst the hardest, as they deal with a constant revolving door of players that they’ll have for games and practices. It’s time to focus on the playoffs and hopefully get a chance at winning the championship trophy.”

Amsler, who’s been the team’s general manager since 2019-20, has helped the organization have 24 NBA call-ups–including a G-League most 21 since the start of 2021-22. The Skyforce had five players earn NBA contracts this season: Drew Peterson (Boston Celtics; two-way), Julian Champagnie (Washington Wizards, 10-day that turned into a two-way), Alondes Williams (Heat; two-way), Jamaree Bouyea (San Antonio Spurs; two-way) and, most recently, Malik Williams, who earned a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors earlier this week.

Amsler is the franchise’s second-ever winner of the award–the first being current Heat VP of basketball operations and assistant general manager Adam Simon, who won the award in 2015-16.

The Skyforce earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and will host the Oklahoma City Blue–the Thunder’s G-League affiliate–Friday night at 9:00 p.m. EST in the quarterfinals. Simon will be honored before the game, per the release.
