We are just days away from the 2024 NBA Draft, with the first round scheduled for Wednesday, June 26! The Miami Heat own the No. 15 pick in the first round, the third time owning a top-20 pick over the last six drafts.
As I went over previously, there could be plenty of viable names available at No. 15 that Miami could choose from. Even though mocks–from pundits, which is simply a projection based on myriad factors–haven’t necessarily linked him, the Heat reportedly have interest in Colorado forward Tristan da Silva, ESPN NBA Draft insider Jeremy Woo reported this week.
“Da Silva was a surprising omission from the NBA’s early green-room list, but he may still earn an invitation, with firm interest in inside the top 20,” Woo wrote this week in his latest mock draft. “He has interest as high as Memphis at No. 9, but will likely fall into the next range, where an array of playoff-caliber teams, including the Kings, Heat, Sixers, and Lakers, are all interested in his services.
“Da Silva’s versatility at either forward spot on both ends and reliable 3-point shooting give him a good pathway to minutes next season, although his ceiling isn’t perceived quite as high as some of the younger players in this range.”
According to our workout tracker, the Heat have publicly scheduled or worked out over two dozen prospects. Though da Silva isn’t one of them. Teams do hold private workouts for certain players as the days approach, though we oftentimes don’t hear about them because they’re … you know, private.
Thus, that doesn’t mean he has worked out with Miami yet–nor does the inverse.
According to NBA Draft Network’s consensus board, da Silva is the No. 18-ranked prospect in the class; according to the NBA Mock Draft consensus database–which has compiled 78 big boards and 254 first-round mock drafts (per the website)–da Silva is No. 17.
da Silva is one of the players I’m much higher on than the consensus heading into the 2024 NBA Draft. He was a three-year starter with the Buffaloes, averaging 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals on 49.3 percent shooting from the floor, 39.5 percent from 3-point range and 83.5 percent from the free-throw line.
He improved as a 3-point shooter each season, canning 39.0 percent of his 3.7 long-range attempts (35.9 3PAr) over his final three seasons. da Silva has a very smooth release with a balanced and repeatable form. With the rock in his hands, da Silva was a smart decision-maker and capable connector, though he projects to be a secondary creator at the NBA level. He had good touch around the rim and played bigger than he was in the lane.
I also thought he was good on- and off-ball defensively with respectable court awareness; he’s not the most explosive athlete nor a premier rebounder (for his size), but he made the right plays more often than not. And he would add much-needed spacing and IQ to Miami’s current context.
The Miami Heat, LA Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers are showing interest in draft prospect Tristan Da Silva, per ESPN

BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a trade to send F Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-rounder, sources tell ESPN.
Acquiring Bridges could put OG Anunoby’s future as a Knick in question, but the franchise still has hopes of re-signing him in free agency, Wojnarowski added.
If the Knicks’ plan comes to fruition, they’ll have a core of Brunson, Bridges, Anunoby, Hart, DiVincenzo, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson that would challenge the Boston Celtics for the throne. Alec Burks, Isaiah Hartenstein and Precious Achiuwa are among New York’s other key free agents.
Another massive deal: Brooklyn has
a deal with Houston to return the Nets’ 2026 first-round pick for a 2027
Phoenix Suns first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Rockets also acquire 2025
right to swap Houston/OKC first for 2025 Suns first-round pick. More details
coming on picks.
According to Wojnarowski, that deal was done because the Rockets want to make a move to land Suns star Kevin Durant in a future trade. While the Suns haven’t said they are willing to deal Durant, who will enter his 18th year in the league this fall, the Rockets now have the picks to potentially pull off such a deal.
If that can’t happen, the Rockets are “determined” to use the Suns’ picks to be aggressive elsewhere. The Rockets are reportedly “seeking a major upgrade now.” Houston went 41-41 last season and just barely missed the playoffs under first-year head coach Ime Udoka.
Meanwhile, in Miami… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpGtBnVZLSk
Butler is staying in Miami. I know the Heat are legends when it comes to keeping information from leaking, but I think there would have been a little something by today considering a team would want to make their own pick at 3 when making a trade.
Feels an awful lot like Miami, hamstrung by some bad contracts, is going to “run it back” yet again. Team was the 8 seed two years in a row. Butler another year older. This is a team that is getting passed by, and not by small margins. Going into 2024, as of today, you’d have to have Celtics, Knicks, Bucks, Cavs and Pacers I’d say pretty far ahead of Miami. Throw in the expectation that the 76ers will be likely adding something, given their flexibility, and Orlando being “young and up-and-coming”…
Either Pat is cooked or ownership isn’t willing to spend. Either way, right now, next year is looking like it’ll be another disappointing slog.
Maybe. Maybe not. I remember people annointing the Nets as champs. I recall the Bucks were going to be that team last year. More than any other league the NBA has favorities win or completely collapse. Rarely middle ground. So I’ll wait to see what the team looks like before I lock myself in the panic room like everyone else.
Nobody is panicing. Just calling it the way we see it. Changes are definitely needed in Miami if the team expects to compete at the highest level. There are teams fully committed to “winning” and there are others who are just committed to “contending” (appearing to compete without fully committing). We’ll find out which one Miami is in very short order.
You’re calling it the way you want it, which I will bet is completely different than how Pat and Co are seeing it. They see it as they have Jimmy right now, and as long as he wants to stay, that is all that matters. They will work around the edges, plus picks, to see if they can retool for this year, not trades for possibly a few years from now.
Regular seasons and playoffs will tell.
With a little luck, that approach may get Miami in the play-in round again. It sure won’t get the Heat by Boston, New York etc., in the East or half a dozen teams in the West. If Jimmy doesn’t show up ready to play every day this season (if he’s still around by then) he’ll be gone by the trade deadline. However, his market value will be substantially less by then and Pat and Co will need to settle for what they can get. Timing is everything.
Luck. What Pat and Spo and Jimmy are always depending on. They all actually became successful because of luck, so they can probably summon it up again. 🙂
I would counter that despite how great the Jimmy years have been, they are defined largely by playoff results.
Miami was the 8th seed in 2023-24
Miami was the 8th seed (w/7th best record in East) in 2022-23
Miami was the 1st seed in 2021-22
Miami was the 8th seed in 2020-21
Miami was the 5th seed in 2019-20
We can say it’s calling it the way we want it, but proof is in the pudding. Except for 2021, Miami has largely been a mediocre team in the regular season. Three of Jimmy’s 5 years, Miami has been the worst seed in the east, and twice bounced in the first round.
Expecting Miami to suddenly be better, when the best player on the team, seemingly took a step back last year (and is frequently unavailable), seems foolish. I get Pat and Micky may want to sell me on the fact that they’ve made the finals twice, and ECF three times, but they play a lot of regular season games, that they seemingly want me to ignore….
Also regardless of Jimmy being a member of the Heat or not, they now need to replace Highsmith and Martin. So another off season of picking through left over scraps, doesn’t exactly give me reason for high hopes.
FLORIDA PANTHERS ARE THE CHAMPIONS 🏆
YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!
Boston beat us, then won a championship. We beat Boston, and then won a championship! Thank you Florida Panthers for bringing a championship back to South Florida.
Revenge is sweet and the full circle moment is Tkachuk and Tatum both went to the same high school and became buddies.
It sounds like Houston is whale hunting. Same as 76ers. All that is left is for the Heat to decide if they want to offer Jimmy the extension, and if not, what does Jimmy do. If it were to happen the Heat will have some options.
Exactly. As many of us have said, a decision on Butler needs to be made as close to now as possible. If they’re keeping him, fine, work out the terms. If they are at total loggerheads over the extension, put him on the market and they’ll get a very solid return. They just can’t take weeks to finalize the direction they’re going.
If Miami can squeeze Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Tari Eason (or Cam Whitmore) and #3 pick out of Houston, I would go for it! Then Miami would have the ammo and cap space to pull off a couple of other trades and/or free agent signings.
Or would Houston prefer to trade one of their young bigs and keep Green who seemed to grow towards the end of the year into the the explosive scoring guard they hoped they were getting?
I don’t think they would be willing to trade either Smith or Sengun.
They wouldn’t. Which means, that the trade would be an all star for bunch of role players and picks.
Butlers trade makes sense only when the return is a younger star.
Do you think Atlanta would take Herro and #3 pick for Murray or Brooks and #3?
Miami doesn’t have 3th pick.
But Herro and no. 15 pick for Murray could be an interesting option.
1) They would have the 3rd pick it if they traded Butler to Houston for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Tari Eason (or Cam Whitmore) and #3 pick first.
2) On second thought, the dollars wouldn’t match if Heat wanted to trade Herro and 15th pick to Atlanta since Herro makes more and Miami doesn’t have the cap space to take Murray. Plus, what incentive would Atlanta have to trade a two-way player (Murray) for a one way player (Herro) to pair with their other one way backcourt player (Young) unless they have plans to trade Young?
yeah i saw that also. Houston an Udoka seem like a good fit for Jimmy. They can send back a nice package of young guys and a top pick in this years draft. I think if there is a trade built around Jimmy Butler for the #3 pick, I’m all for it
the number 3 pick even in this shitty draft is an overpay for a 34 (will be turn 35 during the season) year old, often injured player. He’s very hard to play with and would destroy the young Rockets team.
I truly believe that FOs around the league feel that way about this years draft. And is it really a clear cut number 1 SS type player? no but all star level yes. This draft probably a lesser 2021 draft in comparison so I do think it’s a throwaway pick for Houston should they choose to go that route.
it sounds like the Rockets are done being young and want a ‘win now’ player. And a team with Dillon Brooks and Ime Udoka as the coach are a perfect fit for Jimmy. As far as a single pick being an ‘overpay’, i will just point out that the Knicks just traded all of their picks for a guy that has never made an all-star team
Yeah an overpay but will play well with former teammates. It’s a good move if they can re-sign OG. Then they have several wings who they can at least throw at Tatum and Brown. My guess is if they keep OG they lose Hartenstein.
TRUE!
”Q: Tyrese Maxey was the 21st pick of the 2020 NBA draft. The Heat selected Precious Achiuwa one pick earlier at No. 20. It’s hindsight. It’s playing the result. It also hurts to think what could have been. – Bernardo, Fort Lauderdale.
A: But 19 other teams also passed on Tyrese Maxey, as well as the Heat. With the draft, the what-if game is one that swings both ways. What if the Pistons didn’t select Darko Milicic at No. 2 in 2003 and Dwyane Wade didn’t therefore fall to the Heat at No. 5? What if Bam Adebayo didn’t fall to the Heat at No. 14 in 2017 because the likes of Josh Jackson and Frank Ntilikina didn’t go earlier? What if Jaime Jaquez Jr. didn’t fall to the Heat at No. 18 last year? At the time of the 2020 draft, the Heat were coming off a trip to the NBA Finals, Tyler Herro had just sizzled in the Eastern Conference finals against the Celtics, and the Heat needed to replace Jae Crowder because of free agency. The pick made sense at the moment, and, for his part, Precious Achiuwa has carved out a credible NBA career. So lament various Heat picks over the years (Harold Miner would be a reasonable place to start), but it’s not as if 2020 was a blatant botch.”
Yesterday is gone. Today and tomorrow are all that matter.
GO HEAT!!!
That was for the benefit of those that bring up those silly 20/20 hindsight issues.
If all else fails, bring in 24 year old, free agent PF/C Jalen Smith to play alongside Bam and draft either Zach Edey or DaRon Holmes II as a back-up or future starter.

JJJ version 2.0. Guy is ready to come in and contribute. I can see why the Heat would want him IF the plans is for Jimmy to stay
What’s this guy smokin? Does he have any more?

Slowly but surely, folks are coming around to moving Bam to Power Forward, which Bam wants to do, and drafting or trading for a starting Center, (e.g., Lopez, Vucevic, Edey, Kesler, Robinson).

I only watched the AUCH video so far and it was as good a take on the Butler issue as anyone could hope for. The next few days are going to be mighty interesting. I’ve also been a big Brook fan for a while, and he is still playing at a high level.
couple years to late.if we had a guy jokers size we have a parade i believe
Answer…no. Can we have back that alleged Ainge trade giving Heat 6 draft picks for Winslow ???
Question for everyone, If there was a way to trade for demar, and vucevic, would y’all do it ? If the money and assets work. Like trading herro and duncan, with a 1st, and 2nd round pick .Please don’t throw a tomato at me, just wanna know what y’all think of a lineup of terry, demar, Jimmy, bam, vucevic.
🍅 😆
i think the move is to trade Jimmy for a young borderline all-star. Someone like Ingram, LaVine, Garland, whatever. The exact player doesn’t matter, the idea is that the Heat need to build a young team, where Bam is at the Center, JJJ and Jovic are the forwards, Herro and Rozier are the guards, and whatever you get back for Jimmy takes this team from play-in to playoffs
Even after making a move like that, the Heat are still a move away from a contender. But the point is that they’re only a move away, and they’re young enough to build something.
Trading fringe rotation players for other fringe rotation players might make this team marginally better. But if they go into next season expecting Jimmy and Bam to carry them to anything more than a play-in, they are going to need a different regular season version of Jimmy Butler than they’ve had over the past few years.
Herro needs to be traded as much as Jimmy and tbh should’ve been traded 2 years ago
What teams really gonna want a guy thats injured all the time.Cant play defense.Riley held on to tyler to long .He can be packaged with jimmy but him alone with dunc aint getting u sht.
POOR MAN’S RE-TOOLING OF HEAT
(if it works by the deadline pay Butler/if it doesn’t trade Butler)
Herro to Utah = John Collins
-or-
Duncan + Pick to Detroit = Isaiah Stewart
-and
Draft Edey at #15
Rozier, (Herro or Duncan), Butler, (Collins or Stewart), Bam
JRich, Jaquez, Jovic, Love, Edey
Bryant, Wright, Swider, Williams, Cain
Different people have different opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own. Here’s another from that All U Can Heat article.
“If you had to bet, which of the three high priced guards will be traded this offseason: Herro, Duncan, Rozier? Or none? Would it be for fringe role players in return or cap space to resign Hayward or Caleb?
If I had to bet, I’d put $5 on Tyler Herro. Only because he’s (a) younger and more valuable than the others and (b) been involved in trade rumors every summer of his career.
The Heat could have a hard time trading Terry Rozier because he’s coming off a season-ending neck injury. That could scare some teams off until they see him play next season. Duncan Robinson has value across the league, but he might still be more valuable to the Heat than other teams.”
Then Duncan it is for Stewart. Isaiah is a big body bruiser who can play PF or C so there’s that to consider. Hopefully, Swider (or Williams) can be groomed to provide a little fire power off the bench.
I think the Herro slander has gone over the skis. He’s a good player. I’m on the Boy Wonder Bandwagon.
The ones that hate me the most look just like me
You tell me what that means
Make a slick comment and see what that brings
I seen it go down, we can reenact things
Extreme like BMXing
These boys pussy and they PMSing
People in the city see the movement occurring
And say, “My God, I wanna be in that scene”
Damn right, you wanna be in this scene
I really like Herro as well, but he keeps letting me down, between the injuries and playoff performances . With that being said, if we can’t find any team to trade him to for a good deal, then I’ll give him one more year to see if he turns into a legit scorer or at least improve his value.
I agree totally.
Herro was hunted all the time in this years playoff, practically the only scorer Heat has. Thats the reason for bad performances. But, as a second or third or fourth scorer behind Butler, Rosier, Bam, he could be great. So that’s not the reason to trade him.
The problem is his defence. He is not physically up to be a good defender, and I m not sure, this can be fixed. Its clear, that with him as a starting shooting guard heat wont win the title.
sounds great on paper for a few years.duncan herro1st and second not enough to get demar and vucevic.i would be happy just with vuc.
Vucevic was never a part of a winning team, so no for him.
Derozan was, but I dont think he can play with Jimmy.
So its Jimmy for him and some other player.
Not really tempting.
Maybe orlando and chi didnt have enough talent?
In his 12 years in NBA barely play in play off, which means, he is not a player which makes difference.
I dont think he is an upgrade on Love.
hes def bigger career 17pts 10 reb 50% shooter, lasyt year 18 10 48% .at this stage def upgrade
costly one.
You may be right. Vucevic is obviously bigger. His fg% was 48% to Love’s 44%. His other numbers aren’t really better when you take into account Vuc averaged twice as many minutes as Love – 34 to 17. Love is the better 3p shooter. About the only advantage is I’m not sure Love could play 34 minutes a game, but he doesn’t need to.
I would conclude that he would not be much of an upgrade over Love, if any. Love is also career 17/10. Love has lower fg%, but better 3p% and ft%. Now would I sign Vuc for the minimum? Sure.
I watched plenty of Chicago games when Goran was there. That team was terrible. Vuc and Lavine produced big numbers, but often were the worst players on the court. Their starts were legendary. Falling 10- points behind in first 5-6 minutes was a norm. because of missed shots and lazy defence of those two.
Just not Miami Heat type of player.
Sounds redundant with JJJ
