Heat secure 106-90 win over Wizards as Bam Adebayo makes history

Following another Miami Heat disheartening loss on Sunday, where they saw a 19-point lead vanish against the New York Knicks, the team needed to quickly respond. On the second night of a back-to-back; they did just that against the visiting Washington Wizards.

Miami had complete control all game long and needed up winning with a final score of 106-90. The win improved their season record to 29-31 and kept their spot in the Eastern Conference’s seventh seed. They are one full game ahead of the eighth seed Orlando Magic.

It was a balanced effort for the Heat against the Wizards, who received double-digit scoring efforts from five rotation players. Those guys include the likes of Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Terry Rozier and Pelle Larsson.

Robinson has been adding a true X-factor impact during this last stretch of games, and that success continued on Monday night.

The Heat shot 48% from the field and held Washington to just 37% overall. They also had the 31-22 advantage in total assists— as the ball moved around beautifully to create easy looks. Herro, Adebayo and Rozier combined for 16 assists as a trio.

However, the real story of the game came from history being made with Adebayo. He has officially became the franchise’s all-time double-double’s leader, passing Ronny Seikaly who held down that record for nearly three decades.

The Heat big man capped off his legendary night with another strong 19/4/5 performance to go along with three stocks. He has averaged nearly 22 points and 10 rebounds on impressive shooting efficiency over the last ten games.

When asked about his memorable outing in the postgame winner’s circle, he expressed a relief that he finally broke that record— along with showing admir support.

“I’ve always wanted to be first in something in this organization, I’m not done yet. It’s great Rony Seikaly was here… to see me pass his record. I’m glad to get that over with; that had too much pressure.” (— Bam Adebayo)

In a season that has been filled with plenty of low moments, both on and off the court, the play of the Adebayo-Herro All-Star duo has still kept Miami in the thick of the playoff picture.

And now Adebayo adds another special moment to the season under the books for Heat Nation.

Magic lost again at home to Toronto. They have had several injuries this season, starting with Bancaro and Franz Wagner who missed a combined 54 games with torn obliques. Now, they have several other players injured. Once Orlando is healthy, they and Miami will be favorites for the 7th & 8th play-in spots. Atlanta in 9th and probably Chicago in 10th. Unless the Heat chokes big time, it will be hard for the team not to make the playoffs this year. If they do, Miami’s first round 2025 pick will go to OKC and the Heat will keep it’s 2026 pick.

Food for thought…
If Miami and Orlando are completely healthy and have their mojo (especially on defense) back by the playoffs, one or both of them may surprise some people. I can’t wait to see Heat at 100% and clicking on offense AND defense. At least then, at the very minimum, they may make Cleveland, Boston or New York work for it in the first round. (New York is 3 games behind Boston).

and if spo played ware 30 plus minutes to

SunManFromDogBone

Until Miami gets a true closer, it will be very difficult for the Heat to win a championship.

According to current projections for the 2025 NBA season, some of the top “closers” (players most reliable in high-pressure situations at the end of games) could include: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, Ja Morant, Kevin Durant (if healthy), and Damian Lillard; with players like Luka Doncic and LeBron James also remaining strong contenders depending on their form and team situation.

I would add Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards and a few others to this list.

Key factors to consider when identifying top closers:

  • Clutch scoring ability: Consistent performance in high-pressure situations, including hitting key shots from the field and free throws.
  • Playmaking skills: Ability to create scoring opportunities for themselves and teammates in tight situations.
  • Defensive intensity: Strong defensive play to secure leads in the final minutes.

aka need a ss had one in himmy but he quit on us.like to know the reason he behaved like this (pat) roster, no other real stars, answer pat and roster its ashame this team with a motivated jimmy with ware could have been a top 4 in east

You’ve said yourself that Butler is no longer a superstar. He has not been a superstar for well over a year at this point. Maybe you remember his poor showing against Denver. The following season, he didn’t show up much at all. The problem, as we have discussed previously, was giving two players a combined $175 million in contracts. And one of those contracts was given to a player at the behest of Butler because it was his good buddy. Those contracts, plus the contracts of Butler and Bam left very little room to bring in another player who could really have made a difference.

heatforlife

i think this christopher can create shots for himself love to see him liked him in gleague.tys the only guy on roster that can get his own shot.jjj jovic dunc hh burks dont have that skill

SunManFromDogBone

His problem from day 1 has been his poor 3 point shooting (27.6% career). That’s why the Rockets released him in 2022-2023 and Salt Lake City Stars (G League) didn’t keep him after 2023-2024. No other team picked him up, except Heat. He is currently making 32.9% of his 3 point shots in Sioux Falls (his highest percentage as a pro).

Nonetheless, since Miami’s place is almost assured in the play-in round for a shot at the 7th or 8th playoff spot, what does Spo have to lose? He should give Christopher, Stevens and most of all Johnson, as much playing time as possible against NBA level competition. The experience will help them realize what they must work on to make it on the big team. It will also give Riley and Spo a first-hand opportunity to see how far each player has developed and how far each still needs to go. What have they possibly got to lose?

heatforlife

if we got this jimmy butler 111 gsw is getting we’d be top 4 team.hope he doesnt keep playing good

SunManFromDogBone

Instead, we got money-hungry, quiet-quitting, disruptive, egotistical, Debbie Downer, Prima Donna version. At least we are assured of getting GSW’s 2025 first round pick. I’m good with that.

  • Since leaving Miami, Butler has played in 9 games with the Warriors. He’s averaging 16 ppg/5.4 rpg / 5.4 apg.
  • For the season Butler’s numbers are 16.8/5.3/5.0.
  • Not very good for a player who has a guaranteed contract for $159,751,900 over the next 3 seasons.

Thank God Riley didn’t pay him!

heatforlife

whats their record with him 9 1 before under 500 its not just about #s he makes winning plays getting to ft line.he looks almost like playoff jimmy.what a pos he is though

heatforlife

i think he got tired of the mediocre roster sun that had alot to do with him bailing just like lebron did.

SunManFromDogBone

Roster had nothing to do with it. Riley damaged his fragile ego PLUS he wanted more money NOW! He finally showed his true (ugly) colors as he had everywhere else and I’m glad he did. Heat able to move on from him with no regrets. F*** him! Turn the page heat. Let it go.

heatforlife

yeah your right water under the golden gate bridge or is it the bay bridge.current roster is playin.next year if pat doesnt land a player better than bam he should be fired

Reality Czech

He quit on this team for at least a year, not just this season. His priorities seemed to be bizarre hair styles, big face, and tennis matches.

SunManFromDogBone

I agree. As he continues to break down, his impact will be less and less. Warriors cannot compete with the bigger teams, Nuggets, OKC, T’ Wolves, etc.). They don’t even have a legitimate (playoff caliber) center.

heatforlife

the old adage change of scenery 30

heatforlife

how do u know roster had nothing to do with it did u speak to him sun.quitter wants jewelry play with steph.thats a fast track to a ring that team gets a center in offseason they might be the favs out of the west

SunManFromDogBone

That’s assuming Butler doesn’t start breaking down and/or start taking personal days off. With him, you never know.

heatforlife

father time will get him no one himmy can keep this aggressive play up

oregoner

we got that Jimmy Butler for 4 years. It was a great run. My sister lives in the Bay Area and she’s a Warriors fan, we’ve been texting about it. We keeping talking about how great it always starts with Jimmy, and how terrible it always ends. Trust me, Warriors fans have their guard up

heatforlife

they only have him for 2 1/2 years i cant believe how fresh his body looks, must have a good personal trainer i hear on the warriors

SunManFromDogBone

Funny how $110 million was able to reinvigorate his @$$. Hmm?

heatforlife

the great smart players like lebron jimmy jokic know that whats best for the team is to get lesser players good looks.herro starting to do that.tatum brown strictly one on one players but so good at that they can win a ring.give me the guy thats makes his teammates better aka a pg like magic is the ultimate team player.

SunManFromDogBone

I lived in L.A. and was a Showtime Laker fan. Magic was one of the most unselfish players of all time. For him, winning was truly the priority, at the expense of his personal statistics. Over his 13 year career, the Lakers won 5 championships and appeared in 9 NBA Finals. His career averages were 19.5 ppg/ 7.0 rpg / 12.5 apg. He averaged over 10 assists in 9 seasons and 7.3, 8.6, 9.5 during his first three and 6.9 in his final season (after a 5 year absence due to HIV/AIDS).

As a rookie in 1979-1980, 20 year old Magic was required to play center in game 6 of the NBA Finals against Philadelphia, as the result of an injury to Laker center and 1980 NBA MVP, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Playing all but one minute, Johnson finished with 42 points (14-of-23 shooting from the field and 14-of-14 from the free-throw line), 15 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and one block. With the Lakers up only two points and five minutes away from a Game 7, the 20-year-old scored nine straight points to lead them to a 123-107 win on May 16, 1980.

heatforlife

if joel anthony would have gotten 30 mins hed have gotten a double double what is 10 pts a game rc

Reality Czech

C’mon, it’s just you being you. Say something nice occasionally. On those rare occasions you do, I worry someone’s kidnapped you.

heatforlife

double doubles not impressive rc u think it is

heatforlife

you use to take shots at me nowlately were buddy buddy until my double double bam bam post posts.sorry rc we cool?

Reality Czech

Yes, it’s not a shot, only that we occasionally strongly disagree on an issue. We also strongly agree on other issues.

SunManFromDogBone

This is America. We all have the right to give our opinions/freedom of speech (at least for the time being). I don’t dislike anyone. I just sometimes dislike what they say. In those cases, I never have been able to keep my mouth shut. It must be the effect the turbulent 60’s had on my sense of self-expression.

I remember Country Joe and the period very well. I hung out in Greenwich (‘the’) Village before and after my 2 year ‘vacation’ courtesy of Uncle Sam. The vibe was different then, even with people you disagreed with (like Nixon, lol).

heatforlife

fish.

Reality Czech

Lol, I meant the period of time!

heatforlife

im a woodstock dude myself .love me rock n roll from late 60s 70s just like sports.u look like a cross between ronny van zandt and stevie ray vaughn.

heatforlife

dunc max got us introduced to each other.we meet again with double double bam record

heatforlife

bams playing great def improving his offensive game but sun what is 10pts a game . 2.5 pts a qtr

SunManFromDogBone

Using your rationale…

  • The only player in the NBA averaging a legitimate triple double is Jokic. (28.9/12.7/10.4).
  • The only players averaging a legit double/double points & rebounds (20ppg/10rpg) are Jokic, Towns, Giannis and Wemby.
  • The only players averaging a legit double/double points and assists (20rpg & 10apg) are Jokic and Young.
  • Using these parameters, the only legit NBA MVP, year after year, should be Whiteside (oops, I mean Jokic). Without a doubt, he is the best player in the NBA. Embiid and Giannis aren’t even close.
heatforlife

point is what is 10pts a game very pedestrian to make double doubles matter raise bar to 20pts.jokic makes everybody better greek and joel great to but dont pass like joker.i think best player in league is ant man.i think of mj when i watch him play

SunManFromDogBone

27/6/4.6 is not a triple double. By your own definition, he makes himself look better not his teammates.

heatforlife

just watch him play sun hes the closest thing to mj ive seen.ball handling jumping shooting hes a jordan clone.jordan prob never averaged 10 rebounds or 10 assists a year.

Reality Czech

Bam is at 17.6/9.9, very close to the bar you set. He’s not averaging the 10 points you are referencing.

heatforlife

bam is a top 3 pf ad clearly better cant think anybody else at pf id take over bam.he needs to be our 2nd best player herro has been demoted to third.ty wearing down.
