Roughly 24 hours ahead of the inaugural Las Vegas Summer League, the NBA released the groups for the third-annual In-Season Tournament on Wednesday.
The MiamI Heat, who have yet to advance past the knockout stage in both seasons, will share Group C with the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets. This is the third-straight year that Miami has had Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks in their group.
Here is how the other two Eastern Conference groups stack up:
- Group A:
- Cleveland Cavaliers
- Indiana Pacers
- Atlanta Hawks
- Toronto Raptors
- Washington Wizards
- Group B:
- Boston Celtics
- Detroit Pistons
- Orlando Magic
- Brooklyn Nets
- Philadelphia 76ers
Group play contests are expected to go from Oct. 31-Nov. 28 on select Tuesday and Friday nights; schedules and times for each game won’t be announced until a later date. However, the league announced that Miami will play both Chicago and New York on the road while hosting Milwaukee and Charlotte inside Kaseya Center.
The Heat have gone 2-2 in the Group Stage in both seasons, though last year’s In-Season Tournament group stage opener against the Detroit Pistons included Erik Spoelstra’s costly mistake of calling a timeout in overtime … when the Heat had none left. They ultimately lost the game 123-121, which was only the beginning of several bad losses they had throughout last season.
Coming off a dreadful 37-45 campaign, they will look to improve while (potentially) leaning more into the team’s youth. We still don’t know what the final roster will look like, but how do you think Miami will fare in Group C? Let us know in the comments!
