As part of the Miami 305 squad in Ice Cube’s summer Big 3 pickup league, former Miami Heat players Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley recently delivered a championship.

In the championship matchup, Chalmers stepped up to knock down the game winner.

The two-time NBA champion is no stranger to making winning players in his professional basketball career. He has won at every level of the biggest stage across the sport, and played a pivotal role in the Heat’s four NBA Finals runs during LeBron James’ stint in South Beach.

He was the starting point guard under coach Erik Spoelstra for most of that four-year run alongside James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Chalmers’ NBA career came to an end in the 2017-18 season as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies— where he played two seasons there following his 2016 trade from the Heat.

On Wade’s Wy Network podcast, he iterated Chalmers’ ability to be a winning player shortly after stepping up in the clutch to secure that Big 3 league chip.

“Mario f*cking Chalmers. That’s what he do… he won state championships in high school, he won national championships in college… we’re not winning the way we won (2012 & 2013) without Mario Chalmers.”

As for Beasley, his basketball career was different.

He was the second overall draft-pick in the 2008 draft, courtesy of Miami. Beasley had all the physical talent in the world to be a special player, and he showcased glimpses of that star potential throughout his time in the NBA.

However, off the court issues derailed his playing days. It seemed to be more of a mental approach to the game for the talented forward, despite having all the attributes needed to make his mark.

Beasley had the size, height and three-level scoring prowess, although he lacked leadership and more of a commitment to the defensive side of the floor. The Big 3 league MVP recently shared his side of NBA regrets and where his struggles stemmed from:

Wade, who played with Beasley on the Heat from 2007-2010, along with two separate stints from 2013-2014 and 2015– also iterated his thoughts on Beasley.

“Michael Beasley is probably the most talented basketball player that’s not in the NBA,” Wade stated via the Wy Network podcast.

Even though Beasley’s NBA career didn’t pan out as hoped, he has seemed to find a home in that Big 3 pickup league. As mentioned, he took home the reigning MVP and is a 3X All-Star for the league as the co-captain for the Miami 305. During this past Big 3 season, he averaged 23.1 points and 6.7 rebounds on nearly 45% shooting. He also led the league in total points scored and field goals made.

And of course, finished off his exceptional 2025 Big 3 run with a championship with Chalmers.
