- Sept. 6:Â Cleveland Cavaliers
- Sept. 7:Â Detroit Pistons
- Sept. 8:Â Indiana Pacers
- Sept. 9:Â Milwaukee Bucks
- Sept. 10:Â New York Knicks
- Sept. 11: Orlando Magic
Evaluating the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2025 offseason:
Additions:Â Jabari Walker, Trenton Watford, Dominick Barlow
Subtractions:Â Quentin Grimes (free agent), Lonnie Walker IV (free agent), Guerschon Yabusele, Ricky Council IV (free agent), Jared Butler (free agent), Isaiah Mobley (free agent), Alex Reese (free agent), Marcus Bagley (free agent)
Re-signed:Â Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon, Justin Edwards
Draft:Â V.J. Edgecombe (No. 3 overall), Johni Broome (No. 35)
Hanifan’s outlook: I was much lower on the Philadelphia 76ers than the consensus heading into last season — yet they were even disappointing to me. They went 24-58 with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George playing just 15 games together, going 8-7 in those games.
The biggest beneficiary of last year’s disasterclass was securing the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft — selecting Baylor two-way stud V.J. Edgecombe. I was hoping to see more of him in Summer League (sprained thumb), but he was the No. 3 player on my board. Edgecombe enters the NBA as a 95th percentile athlete with an improved shot and remarkable defensive instincts. His finishing leaves plenty to be desired, but I faith that will improve at the next level.
I’m a huge fan of his game, but I don’t think Philadelphia improved otherwise. We know they’re trying to retain Quentin Grimes, but it’s essentially a stalemate. Grimes has until Oct. 1 to sign the $8.7 million qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer. He deserves a multi-year deal — but it remains to be seen if he remains in Philadelphia (at the right price).

It all depends on Embiid. With a healthy Embiid, they are championship contenders. Without him, they are still better than us, but not much better.
was advocating for joel to miami two seasons ago. now, not even on a vet minimum. might create another drama. the process is cursed
Here’s my Sixers season preview:
At some point during the regular season, podcasts will be asking if this team is a title contender. At some point during the regular season, podcasts will be asking if this team has too many injuries, and if they can get healthy in time for the playoffs. In the end, they’ll probably be good enough to make the playoffs, but they’re a first or second round out, unless they tank for a draft pick.
Also, I didn’t do any research on the Sixers, that’s just been my season preview for the Sixers every season for the past ten years, and it’s been right every time
In short, they are hit with tankers curse.
