Report: Heat eyed Giannis Antetokounmpo trade this offseason

The Miami Heat reportedly had their sights set on swinging big for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but with Bam Adebayo off limits in trade talks.

After the departure of Jimmy Butler during last season, the Miami Heat are in need of a new franchise superstar.

They are still led by the All-Star duo of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, and even added Norman Powell over the summer to help supplement them on the offensive end. But there’s no clear cut superstar on the roster anymore capable of leading this team to contention, like how Butler did.

Pat Riley and the front office attempted to trade for Kevin Durant, but to no avail. Although, depending on the Houston Rockets’ willingness to offer a max extension to Durant— that could potentially be revisited in the future.

But another much bigger in-his-prime whale that is still a possibility to pursue is Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo has still yet to officially commit to a desire to stay with the Bucks both in the present and future. In fact, recent reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania have indicated that the two-time league MVP is still holding out to see how Milwaukee looks to start the 2025-26 season.

The Miami Heat were prepared to get involved in the Giannis sweepstakes earlier this offseason.

Along with the New York Knicks, the Heat are the latest team to recently come up as one of the organizations that were willing to make a push to acquire Antetokounmpo.

“If Antetokounmpo had asked out, the Heat was prepared to make an offer that didn’t include Bam Adebayo, according to a source. But it’s unlikely any such offer would have been seriously considered.”

Although Miami— like they always do— would’ve reportedly been involved in the Antetokounmpo trade market, it’s interesting to see that they would do so by putting out their best non-Bam Adebayo offer on the table.

It likely would take Adebayo being included for the Bucks to even consider any offer from the Heat. However, for curiosity purposes, the best non-Adebayo proposal could look something like this:

Considering the Heat’s recent commitment to extending Nikola Jovic, it looks like they would try to avoid making him available, as well.

Antetokounmpo’s availability will be heavily watched by rival teams around the league moving forward. At least until there’s more clarity on his commitment to the Bucks longterm.

He remains one of the top players in the entire NBA, coming off MVP caliber numbers of 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 0.9 steals on elite 60% shooting during the 2024-25 campaign.

Absolutely! 7 years younger than Curry, in his prime. Bam plus players plus picks.

Eying and buying are two very different things. It would be nice but it’s highly, highly unlikely.

Oh come on! I eyed Brigette Bardot when I was young. That didn’t happen either.

She was hot. They always made a big deal about Sophia Loren, but I inclined towards Bardot.

I’m 72, not as spry as I was, and I wasn’t so spry back then either.

As Irving, the writer, wrote in one of his books, all you need is to avoid open windows (doors in your case).

Long live and prosper.

I liked Claudia Cardenali myself. Raquel Welch was hot too. That was long ago and far far away.
