Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra’s house was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning. The cause remains unknown and is still under investigation. But nobody was home at the time of the fire, and no one was seriously harmed.

Despite the life-altering, traumatic experience, Spoelstra is still planning to coach Friday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, the team confirmed Thursday.

Spoelstra plans to address the media pregame at 6:15 p.m. EST, 75 minutes before tip-off, for the first time. The Heat will not host shootaround.

There were videos released of Spoelstra, 55, in complete disbelief regarding the situation. The Heat were returning from a four-game road trip, which concluded Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets, a 122-112 loss.

Miami is 4-4 on the season, with Friday marking the first of four-straight and six of its next seven inside Kaseya Center.

Obviously, all of our prayers at HHH go out to Erik Spoelstra and his family as they navigate through these troubling times. Basketball probably seems like the last thing on anyone’s mind, but perhaps it’s the only escape for the longtime head coach, who is 791-576.

The Miami Heat’s game against Charlotte Friday does not tip off until 8:00 p.m. EST. It will be the first of three Emirates Cup Group Stage games.

Maybe it’s a good thing that he can put his attention on the job he loves. But, Spo deserves some credit for this altruistic act at this difficult time.
