The NBA’s biggest storyline for the 2025-26 season is finally coming together, as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks seems to be coming to an end.
ESPN insider Shams Charania confirmed in a recent report that Antetokounmpo and his agent have begun conversations with the Bucks on “whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere.” Charania stated that a resolution is expected within the next few weeks. And all signs are pointing to the former two-time league MVP repping a new jersey for the first time in his career very soon.
Reports have suggested that Antetokounmpo planned on assessing Milwaukee’s ability to compete in the Eastern Conference at the start of this season. The Bucks have struggled up to this point, losing eight of their last 10 games and limping to a 10-13 record overall— currently sitting at the 10th seed in the weaker Eastern Conference.
To sum it up, the Bucks are heavily underperforming.
To Antetokounmpo, he is at the heart of his prime years and still playing at an MVP level. Nobody blames him for wanting to play this last stint of his career elsewhere in a better opportunity to pursue a championship. The 30-year-old forward is still dominating the game with averages of 29 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists per game on elite 64% shooting.
This could be Pat Riley’s final chance to bring in that overdue whale for the Miami Heat.
Antetokounmpo’s next destination seems to be in his hands, as Brian Windhorst recently iterated on ESPN. The New York Knicks should be considered the favorites based on past reports over the summer. But the Miami Heat will always be an option for these disgruntled stars.
Miami gives Antetokounmpo a winning culture, a chance to compete while playing for the association’s greatest coach in Erik Spoelstra, and enjoying South Florida sunshine. When it comes to star players requesting trades, almost everyone has included the Heat as a preferred destination over the years. Adding a top-three talent to Miami’s already impressive offense this year would instantly make them favorites to come out of the wide open East.
Pat Riley was reluctant to put all his trade chips on the table for a 37-year-old Kevin Durant this past summer, which was likely a strategic move in the event someone of Antetokounmpo’s caliber became available. There are very, very few players out there worth breaking up a deep and overperforming Heat team right now— Antetokounmpo is one of them.
The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported a while back that the Heat did contemplate an Antetokounmpo trade package in the offseason, and what that might look like. He mentioned that essentially everybody outside of Bam Adebayo would be expendable. Terry Rozier’s situation makes the Heat’s assets tricky right now, but they still have pieces capable of getting a deal done regardless. Especially if Antetokounmpo makes it clear to the Bucks that Miami is where he wants to go.
Of course, roster depth would take a hit, but there is no better time to go all in on one of the NBA’s top players in his prime than now.

Just listened to Bill Simmons (who hates the Heat) and he said the trade he’s hearing the most often is Herro, Ware, Wiggins, and picks for Giannis and his two brothers
Id love to see Giannis in a Heat uniform, but I for one, am tired of all the whale hunting rumors. Either Pat isn’t going all in or he’s lost his touch. Miami is linked to every big player and lands none of them.
I’d be fine if this story just goes away.
It will. And I agree.
Did you see my response to you on the previous thread? It’s important.
Time to shit or get off the pot as far as Greek goes. Otherwise, I’m good with piecing together a contending team one step/trade at a time .
GO HEAT!
I m happy how team is playing now and how is constructed, but its clear, that this is not a contender level team. That would change with having Giannis, which opens 2 year window for contending.
But it will be painful.
It would cost Herro, Ware, at least one out of group of JJJ, KJ and Pelle, Rosiers expering, and maybe Mitchell or Dru. and picks.
With the rest of the team Heat could stay in contention, if there is a quality player or two besides Giannis coming out of that trade.
Miami was in the NBA Finals 3 years ago. They’re currently 14-8 and top-4 in the East with only two players still around from those Finals teams. Pat hasn’t ‘lost his touch”. He’s just been rebuilding on the fly. I don’t know if Giannis is the right target. But I, for one, appreciate what a fantastic job Pat has done rebuilding this team so quickly.
I’m going to wade into this key area of disagreement that I often seem to have on these threads. And I say these next comments in total respect for your and everyone else’s opinion, even when it doesn’t reflect mine. In fact, I am glad for the disparate points of view and find those comments insightful. But, there is this continuing discussion of how to feel about the job our GM is doing lately. And yes, Pats made some savvy moves, and over time, his legacy is beyond anything but adulation. But, I would contend that more recently he has also made what some would have to be considered as missteps. Now, it’s easy for me or anyone else to criticize when I’m not dealing with the complexities of team building and player evaluation. But, it’s equally easy to say everything is great when things are more nuanced than that.
And here is where I go off the rails, but I have to. This sport is dominated by blacks and there are reasons for that, reasons that have been tested and validated over years of competition at the highest level. There are excellent white players, players from all over the world in this quite diverse sport. Now what I am going to say next is going to get me crucified but I am finally going to say it even though everyone is going to tell me I’m a jerk or worse.
Here goes, there seems to be a point, usually when three white guys are playing at once, where play becomes less fluid, and efficiency goes down. In today’s NBA it’s pretty rare, but it was the case when the Clippers pared 25 points off our lead a few games back. You mostly, unless they are with superstars like Luka and Reaves, can’t seem to have too many white guys on the court together. Maybe with them out there you could have a LaRavia or a Knecht, out there for a few minutes. But even then, never for long and never four whites. There, I said the blasphemous words. Until I see it work out well I believe that statement.
Now, Riley has accumulated, whether by design, or as many have said, just coincidentally in an effort to choose the best available player, a lot of white players (6). He has had the most integrated team in the league in terms of white players manning important roles for several years now. Two other teams approach the Heat’s ethnic make up. The Lakers are doing beautifully and the other fairly white team, Utah, has not been good for years. The Lakers are an outlier as their white players are superstars, not unlike the only other team in the last fifty years that broke this trend, the Bird/ McHale Celtics. But, as good as Ty is, and to a lesser extent Jaime and Pelle are, they are not superstars.
It is, in my opinion, with these white players that Pat has made some of his biggest gaffes recently, and he just made another and could be about to make one more. Further, as bad as this sounds, it is my belief we have too many white players on the Heat and they play too strategic of roles. Yes, we are doing quite nicely but we are at our ceiling with the current make up of this team. I have felt this all along and have had to swallow my thoughts and it is here where I disagree with others on this thread, and it is mostly around this issue.
I wish I rooted for another team so this issue never came up. I am very much for integrated pro basketball, love having all kinds of talents and root for everyone. It’s not a precise equation, but to quantify things, I think four whites on a team is at the point where anymore gets to be a negative.
I expect this comment to not be received well. And, I put it out there so I will have to take it. But, long term, let’s see where the careers of our Heat players go, say five years out from now. Let’s revisit this then.
100% truthful 30 .i think the two best players in nba are white though ic and ic.guys like pelle jovic jjj ty basically limited cause their white. and then he drafts kaspar.come on pat
From the guy who has been clamoring every single game for Lurch. And I knew you would pull this. It’s why I asked you specifically around the draft who the Heat should take and got no answer. And nobody knows at this point what Kasparas will or won’t be. I put names out there before the draft – Coward, Clifford, Jase.
hes not bad looking guy rc.i dont follow college hoops at all watch little canes ball thats about it.i agree with 30s post to many whitesiders.
Thanks. It’s not easy to say things no one wants to hear or discuss. There was nothing good in it for me except expressing my honest point of view.
I always try to get you to be specific and NOT use the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. What moves should the team have made that they didn’t? What draft pick was a mistake BASED ON AVAILABLE INFORMATION AT THE TIME? I refer to my post below specifying moves that have recently been made that look pretty good. Look at Riley’s history and the makeup of his teams here and with the Knicks and Lakers. There is no evidence whatsoever of some conspiracy to pick players of a certain skin color. In fact, his history indicates exactly the opposite.
true riley doenst give a f about race but when u got lots whitesiders it puts u behind the 8 ball.just the way it is.just watch ja play ant man maxey .then watch ty reaves caruso pelle play is there a difference in style
Yes, the latter players tend to have more skills. As Vagibugi has pointed out, and what I have observed for years, is European players tend to have a better understanding of basketball fundamentals whereas black players, particularly American, tend to rely more on their athleticism. The bottom line is that there is no conspiracy here.
Ok, Dunc was a mistake giving him his contract. So was Niko. So will be Ty if he does give him the money. I could talk about several others but I prefer not to. I appreciate our coach too and want to believe also. I just can’t, in all candor, act like he can do no wrong. He hits on maybe 60% of his moves.
Science says, that we all have the same origins in Africa. Sadly, some of Africa natives unvoluntarly land in what is today called land of freedom for numerous reasons, one is, according to your theory, also, to play good basketball nowadays.
I read the other day, that my ancestors, long after they left Africa, came here where I live, at Italian border, from what is now Asian Russia, and they were yellow. Also, the mystery, where all Neanderthals are gone, was solved. There were assimilated by locals, so I m also, as most Europeans, about 10 or 20 % Neanderthal, a descendant of a moron of the ancient past.
So we are worse in basketball, because we are yellow and stupid.
The ancentors of Jokic and Doncic prefer to eat Neanderthals then sleep with them, which makes them as smart then African origins in US. The fact, that they are both still yellow, is the ultimate prove, that colour of the skin have nothing to do with how good somebody plays basketball.
My dear 30, I couldn’t help myself. Its all joke, I hope you understand it.
I do and I expected worse. Whatever you guys say, I definitely understand your valid points of view.
For me, I have tried to say what I said today for three years now and started to and kind of got halfway there but today I spoke from my honest feelings and let it all out. It’s like being un-pc and wishing I wasn’t. But, there it is.
I still love the Heat and have a great desire to have them be winners, which is why I say the things I do. Mea culpa HHH.
Pat its ur call. Include Bam or Ware with Tyler let’s see how it goes. If Giannis dons a Heat jersey regardless the cost, its a chamionship or bust in the next 2 yrs. Coz its what we’re looking for right? A superstar caliber player. Top 5 at least. But my gut feel says Riles doesn’t put Adebayo on the table. We’ll see.
agreed. I think the trade is Bam/Ware plus Tyler, and maybe you have to throw in Jamie to sweeten the deal. Plus every available pick.
Maybe Bucks say no, but that still leaves you a lineup of:
Bam/Ware
Giannis
Wiggins
Powell
Mitchell
Bench: Jovic, Pelle, Fonteccio, Dru
And you’ve got next season to build on that. I think that’s pretty workable. Let’s do this!
There are times when I wish I could speak openly about some of the things that have occurred over the last five years, things that went well and things that didn’t, and why. And also how those moves have impacted us going forward. I know a lot of the very best players have included the Heat in their possible destinations when they wanted a new start, and it is hard to ascertain why those things have never worked out.
Basketball is so intriguing because, unlike all the other major sports, just one high quality player can turn a decent team into a contender. We saw what Jimmy did for us in his prime, before the joylessness. Several players from those days who seemed so effective have been rendered irrelevant since. For example, we saw our good buddy Caleb last night. Around the league there’s also Gabe, and others. Jimmy took a team without much more than Bam, and sometimes Ty and Goran, and brought us to the brink of a championship. So, there’s no question a Giannis in his prime is worthy of targeting.
But, I ask you, do you think he would come to this team as it is currently constructed, with a few players who are hard to move for various reasons?. But, because those players are hard to move, what could be left after the trade may not be too appealing.
Then again, if we forget all about the Greek Freak and go about our way, instead of getting all excited, maybe the magicial side of Riley will re-emerge.
Every gm has their ups and downs. They all make mistakes at times. The aftermath of the Butler debacle netted us Powell, Davion, Wiggins, and Kasparas. IMO, our gm did well there. Also, Ware at 15, Jaquez at 18, Pelle at 44, signing Dru and Keshad. He put a decent team together with spit and chewing gum. Jovic contract? The jury is still way out on that one. Maybe, as some people already believe, it was a real mistake. I don’t KNOW that yet. What I know for a fact is he has played poorly lately. But that’s all we KNOW right now. Also , imo, it would be a major mistake to sign Herro to much more than $30m per, but I’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
These whales go where they think the best chance is to win. In a way, they are a referendum on which direction a team is headed and what chance they have of getting there. We do know that several players of this superstar level that we coveted over the last few years have opted to go elsewhere. Those choices reach beyond the hype, beyond all the hopeful ambitions, to the reality of the quality of the players on that chosen team. We will see which way Giannis chooses. We do know Pat will be trying to land him and there are a lot of indications he will be traded.,
Sorry to repeat myself, but I responded on a previous thread to an issue you mentioned and wanted to know if you saw it.
I’ll go check. I thought that above was the response you were referring to.
It doesn’t necessarily indicate which way a team is trending. Our team is trending upwards. But the Knicks, as an example, are more ahead of the process than we are, more established, and with a budding superstar. Luck plays a part in all this too. Looking at Brunson’s first 4 years in Dallas, no one expected this leap in year 5. Both team wise and market wise, they are the more desirable landing spot. It is not an indictment of Riley.
Very interesting article on Powell. He is hoping to re-sign with Heat (in my opinion the sooner the better). If he re-signs, Herro will have to go. Lots of trade possibilities if that happens.

All in. Bam, Herro, Larsson and a pick (or two) for Gianni’s and Portis.
Ouch! Pat loves Bam too much to do that.
If I know Pat, the single most important thing for him is winning another championship before he retires. If that is in fact his agenda, everyone is expendable. Everyone!
Hot take: I agree the Heat should try to get Giannis
This is the Pat Riley move he was known for. It just hasn’t happened for him the past decade or so. You have to think this is the move he’s been waiting for in the past handful of years.
I agree. I think the Heat need to retain Powell, Davion, and one of Bam and Ware. Everyone else should be on the table. It would likely take Bam (or Ware) plus Herro, plus a young player, plus 1 or 2 first round picks. I would rather keep Ware as I believe he is a star in the making.
Bam is probably off the table, so Ware. I hate that.
Ware, Powell and half the team (plus picks) if you don’t include Bam.
Probably.
