Ex-Miami Heat and current Golden State Warriors star forward Jimmy Butler exited Monday’s game early with a right knee injury. He will not return, per the team.

Butler suffered the injury in the third quarter against his old team trying to catch an entry pass against Davion Mitchell. He came down awkwardly, immediately grabbing his right knee before being helped off by his teammates.

Here is the video of the injury:

I’m no doctor, but that did not look good at all.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, he was not able to put any weight on his right knee upon exiting.

Butler finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes. He made six of his 11 field goal attempts.

Outside of Stephen Curry, he’s easily been the Warriors’ second-most important player this season. Entering the game, he was averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists on 64.6 percent true shooting, his highest since 2022-23. He was playing some of his most impactful basketball over the last half-decade — which is saying a lot.

The Warriors were already shorthanded, down Draymond Green, De’Anthony Melton and Gui Santos. It didn’t matter, galvanizing behind Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski en route to a blowout victory.

and the article can list all the teams he had with ‘better help’ that never made it past the second round (which were all of them except the heat)

Never want to see anyone get injured, it’s a real bummer.

That said, f**k Jimmy Butler

LeBatard Show did a great bit about how the Jimmy Butler injury is the only thing that made them feel better after the Hurricanes loss

I came to see what was going on and shocked the same peeps saying the same s**t. Nobody should make moves for the sake of making moves. As the song says, sometime you need to know when to hold them. Sorry guys lol

Moves are generally made in order to improve. By doing nothing, Miami is actually running in place while other teams are catching up and passing the team.

By doing nothing Miami is actually going backwards. None of us mind mediocrity if it is a temporary condition while improvements are being made.

Unfortunately the team isn’t moving forward. Instead it has perfected mediocrity and made it an art form.

If Miami extends Powell and has a fire sale, the team can still make the lottery. With expiring contracts, the Heat can have a younger team with a more promising future by summer. If the team must inevitably take one step back in order to take two steps forward…this is the time to do it.

Get rid of dead weight. Acquire assets. Change direction. After all, this was supposed to be a gap year, remember?

True, but the couple I wrote about wouldn’t cost much and would add 2 young players and a little draft capital.

Incremental mediocrity is not what this team needs. It needs a complete paradigm shift, likely requiring new leadership with more creative ideas. The old school traditional/conservative approach is no longer working.

Sure, but I think what I, and you, have proposed is a lot more realistic than a complete paradigm shift. I’m thinking about what they can realistically do now to add more youth and accumulate more assets like with trades of Wiggins, Simone, the Rozier contract, possibly Mitchell. Bam and Ware are less likely to be traded, but if I got the right combination of picks and young players with upside, I would at least listen. I don’t see a major change while Riley is GM, but you pointed out an important point recently. He wants to go out a winner and is at an age where he needs to do something sooner rather than later. Is it possible he is sandbagging and working behind the scenes?

@2qbn, I usually agree with you. But I think this team needs to shake things up asap.

They’re in 8th place for the 4th season in a row. I looked it up, the last time the Heat finished 6th or lower two years a row, Bill Clinton was the president of the United States! I still lived with my parents the last time the Heat finished worse than 6th two years in a row. Now I have a house and a wife and two kids that roll their eyes at me.

I don’t care if it’s trading Herro for Ja Morant or betting the house on Giannis, this team needs to do something.

team is stuck in mediocrity post jimmy.either blow it up or make some good moves.mediocrity is the worse place to be and theres no way out right now.w/o a ss this is what u get.if u cant get a ss then trade off your older players and build around ware jjj pelle.after the canes loss only thing heat could have done to soften the blow would have been to get greek.man as a 79 grad that one hurt as much as any loss of a mia sports team in a long time.prob since the playoff game jimmy took the three where he had an ez layup for the tie.oh well sports is just sports no biggy

Ironic, isn’t it. I’m not sure how bad Jimmy’s hurt but I’m not as sympathetic as I normally am for any player. It sure looks like the Heat weren’t the only loser last night. And GSW may regret their foolish contract for a long time.
But, that we folded up like a cheap suit thereafter was embarrassing. The Heat organization is in a shambles. It’s so strange that Riley can snooker a team in the off season and get our best player and then can’t do another damn thing to help. What is going on? Maybe the GM boxed himself in with so many unmovable assets that he is paralyzed. That’s my best guess. So, we win a game in shocking fashion and then lose one in total defeat. Been going on all year and the lows are hard to watch.

It was a tough night for Miami sports fans. But at least the Hurricanes gave it a hell of a run.
As for our Heat, you’re right. And it seems very doubtful that Ja or Giannis will be walking through the door this season, or ever. I think the only option is a couple of small moves like getting Missi and trading Simone to the Knicks for Yabusele, Dadiet, and the conditional first round pick. And I wouldn’t stop there.

I don’t like to see any player suffer, a season ending injury. He was looking more injury prone when he was here, and he took a lot of time off in general. He also took time off when he was on the court as well as off the court..

Yes, I was a little too honest there.,I’m not supposed to say that. But, I will say that the Heat did a lot for Jimmy and he burned his bridges here.
And, what I said about going thru this with Sun below applies to you too. I appreciate your well thought out positions and wider perspectives.

Yup. I’ve come to the realization I can’t allow myself to get excited about this team until there’s something to get excited about.

Riley is feeling the pressure from the fans and his hands are tied with Herro, Rozier and Jovic, all by his own doing. All three are untradable. I still don’t understand what Jovic is doing sitting on the bench. He should be in Sioux Falls getting his s*** together.

What’s going on with Rozier? Heat getting screwed on that one every which way but Sunday (or whatever the saying is).

Herro is milking this cow for all its worth. It’s clear the team needs an Alpha male…a leader who is also a clutch performer. Herro isn’t that guy Riley never replaced the quitter but keeps expecting better results. It ain’t gonna happen.

It’s going to be a roller coaster ride from here on out. I’m not going to allow myself to take that ride until I see something positive coming out of the front office. I’m tired of the gaslighting, empty promises and unrealistic expectations. The ball is in your court Pat. Do something.

I at least am glad that we can commiserate with each other. We have all been down this road together. Some of the sayings you put in like the Alice in Wonderland excerpt make it worthwhile.

Butler is gone for a season.

I would prefer to watch him sucks against Heat (and other teams) then this.

The team looked good tonight. Then the ref blew the whistle to start the game and everything went to doodoo. It looks like the Heat may not be getting a ring this year. Where does Riley plan to take the team from here?
