The Miami Heat have a busy few weeks ahead after acquiring Pelle Larsson from the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week.
A number of important decisions loom ahead, including whether to exercise or decline a pair of team options. Well, half of their work is already done, exercising Pelle Larsson’s $2.3 million team option on Wednesday.
Accepting his team option was widely expected, so this move shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
If Miami declined his team option, they could’ve offered him the $5.9 million qualifying offer, thus making him a restricted free agent. There was essentially no upside, from the Heat’s perspective, to do that now, especially since the Heat could have north of $15 million of max space next summer.
Heat still have an important Pelle Larsson extension ahead:
Larsson, 25, averaged 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 49.6 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from 3-point range and 79.7 percent from the free-throw line.
He was one of the Heat’s most important glue guys. Since he’s stepped foot into the organization, he’s been an excellent connective piece.
He will be eligible for a four-year, $92.8 million extension this summer. Since he was a second-round pick, he will be eligible for the extension for the full league year. So this can be negotiated at any time until June 30, 2027.
