Heat’s social media team mistakingly teases LeBron James reunion on Youtube page

To put it mildly, the Miami Heat’s social media team had a little bit of an “oopsy” on Tuesday night.

The biggest story around the NBA is where LeBron James will continue his career as he heads into his 24th season. The “King” is being pursued by the Miami Heat, where he spent four seasons from 2010-14, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who drafted him No. 1 overall in 2003, plus the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has the entire league waiting. And preparing for a potential reunion, the Heat’s social media team made a big mistake, incidentally posting a livestream link with the potential date of his introductory press conference on their youtube page.

We would be lying if we said we didn’t prepare for the possibility of Giannis Antetokounmpo getting traded to the Heat — or somewhere else — with articles in the drafts ready to publish regardless of the outcome. The same applies with James’ decision.

It’s pretty common for writers/bloggers (like ourselves), social media teams, team marketing and business operations, among others, to prepare early. Though this was a pretty bad gaffe.

Mistakes happen; they’re a part of life. I’ve made plenty, and will make plenty more, as will others.

No, this will not influence James’ feelings one way or the other. There’s no reason to put on our tinfoil hats, even as time whisks away.

As we’ve highlighted, there aren’t many — if any — individuals other than his agent, Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch, who know his line of thinking. He has all the information, but we currently don’t know if even LeBron knows what he wants. So there’s not any reason to pontificate whom or where he wants until the man himself makes his long-awaited decision.

The best single player Lebron could play with next year is Giannis, who is the load bearing MVP on offense Lebron can play off of, while also being surrounded by plus defenders. Think the Miami fit, like in the original Giannis trade which was questioned, is underrated and if it happens will be seen over time as a natural fit.

Most underrated players in NBA
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25456696-ranking-most-underrated-nba-players-right-now

Davion, Dru, Pelle all have arguments to be on this list imo

-Davion averaged about the same AST/TO ratio as Cam Spencer, but as a starting PG
-Dru averaged more deflections per 36 than Cason Wallace, who led the league in total deflections
-Pelle took only 8 FGA (7th on the team) but was 3rd in FTA (3.3), and had 13 FTA in two FIBA games this summer. Already showed an ability to create his own shot last year, what does that look like this year playing off Giannis

I hope the social media team have all reviewed their CVs and should all be fired, with or without LeBron coming to Miami. A team that touts culture and class does not deserve these unprofessional actors.

Since the FO adopted the quieter approach of recruitment during free agency, the Heat had better success with recruiting Norman Powell, Giannis than the previous less successful approach that was laden with much fanfare (which I disdained greatly) that failed to land Durant, Lillard, Donovan Mitchell etc.

The Heat already re-posted a job opening for the position.

DREAM JOB ALERT… The Miami Heat are hiring a Director of YouTube Strategy after accidentally leaking the LeBron James news. Better update your LinkedIn profile before they delete the job posting too.

The job opportunity had actually been posted before the incident happened.

The Heat’s Director of YouTube Strategy job opening was originally posted on July 1, 2026. It was re-posted July 22, 2026, after the LeBron announcement.

I came across the following on Yahoo Sports. It is what I was going by.

If a person visits the hyperlink above with a LinkedIn account already signed in, they can see the job opening was reposted on Tuesday before the YouTube incident occurred. This means the organization had already been searching for director candidates and had not fired their previous for the recent mistake.

I presumed the last one was gone and it was an underling who screwed up. You are right. It was reposted after the screw up.

If I were younger, I’d love to apply for and work for the Heat organization. Heck, I’d even be one of those sweat moppers. Unfortunately, I dislike traveling down there even though some parts of Miami are beautiful and historic.

I don’t know if there is/was any truth to the premature announcement. However, if I was the GM of one of the other teams in the running for LeBron, I might be tempted to move on and sign free agents now rather than waiting. The teams not ultimately selected may be at a disadvantage if they wait.

If there is any truth to the announcement, I’m sure Miami has already discreetly reached out to other free agents (such as DeRozan, Beal, Richards or others) they may want to lock in before the official announcement is made.

Either way, now that the World Cup is over, I don’t think LeBron will want to wait too long before announcing his decision. I hope he doesn’t penalize Miami because he feels Riley was trying to steal his thunder by announcing it too soon..

Ye of little faith.

I think Riley should strike preemptively by offering to trade Dru Smith straight up for Bronny. The dollars work. The Lakers can always use another back-up PG.

  • Bronny: $2,296,274
  • Smith: $2,584,359

Might have two seasons left but point stands, all 30 NBA teams are offering him a job. Free agent who was an all-star last year and potentially signing near the minimum is worth the wait, will move the title odds of whoever he signs with

It ain’t over until the fat lady sings. I’m not a gambler, but if I were, I would say the odds should be about 3-1 he picks Miami. There are too many reasons why Miami is a better choice than any other team, with the possible exception of San Antonio.

Slow news day, so I’ll add something. Jake Fischer says the Heat, Celtics and Clippers are interested in Brad Beal. Of course we’re waiting for Lebron, but I think so is Beal. If Celtics really are interested, and Beal is friends with Tatum, you would think he would have already signed there if he wanted to.

It feels like the entire NBA is waiting on LeBron. I know we are past the first wave of free agency, but not many names have moved since he announced he was leaving the Lakers.

It’s part of what I find so amusing about this newest path for LeBron. At 41, he’s essentially shut down the NBA again.

TheBigRagu
TheBigRagu

Just a matter of time now. LeBron knows he can’t make any more money with another franchise. And the Heat offer the best chance for him to run the offense. And they can win another championship, maybe two if he stays. All signs point to it was a mistake that it was posted too early because he is coming.

We are applying logic to an illogical situation. Logic points to Miami.

Who knows, he could end up going to a team that hasn’t even been mentioned before now…like Detroit.

I’m talking about objective logic. What you are talking about is subjective wishful thinking. If you look at all the variables, Miami clearly checks far more boxes than any of the other teams.

With multiple ball handlers on the Sixers, it seems like it wouldn’t be a fit, and could cause conflict. Even more so with Cleveland with Harden. If he prefers to stay on the left coast, sure, GS works. But I don’t see that aging team beating out the new powerhouses of the west. Speaking of which, I’m sure you saw who was the summer league mvp – Yaxel! It’s only S l, but it could also be a preview of things to come.

I also am not happy about the mistake. But, I do feel it won’t hurt us, just like Bam’s swipe at Ty didn’t. And even though the error most likely doesn’t portend of any advanced knowledge, if it means anything it might be that someone knew something.
It’s not like he was coming and now he won’t. Keep the faith, there are good reasons why we are his team of choice.

While I think the error is a bad look, I do think any team that thinks they have a remote chance at signing LeBron, has probably started working on articles and setting up social media posts to fly out when it happens.

Would it impact the decision? I doubt it, but it surely impacted the prediction markets.
