Heat fall apart in second half, lose to Magic 133-124

For the fourth time this season, the Orlando Magic bested the Miami Heat, except this time was in the Heat’s home house inside Kaseya Center.

Behind a dominant 40-20 third-quarter, Orlando secured a 133-124 win over Miami, snapping a four-game skid while tying the Heat for 7th in the East standings. The Heat trailed by 16 with 3:49 left, but quickly made it a two-possession game with 1:06 left. But it was too little, too late, as four free-throws from both Jalen Suggs and Paolo Banchero all but iced the win for the Heat’s intrastate foe.

Both teams shot 50.0 percent from the floor, but Miami got crushed in the paint through three quarters (56-36) while coughing up the rock 18 times to the Magic’s seven. As a result, the Magic scored 13 more points-off-turnovers (24-11) with a slight edge in fast break points (18-17).

The Heat were led by Bam Adebayo, who tallied a near triple-double. Adebayo scored 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting and 4-of-7 from 3-point range, adding 12 rebounds, seven assists and two assists. While he still looked like he was laboring from his back injury, Norman Powell had 22 points.

Simone Fontecchio sparked the Heat off the bench with a team-high 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range; Andrew Wiggins had 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting with five rebounds and three dimes.

Ultimately, Orlando punched the Heat in the mouth — again — especially after the Heat’s 41-25 second quarter entering halftime up nine. Led by Paolo Banchero and Anthony Black, the Magic forced the Heat into too many hapless mistakes.

Orlando may not be playing the best basketball right now. But they’re superior athletically and physically than the Heat. Miami drops to 25-23 while the Magic improved to 24-22.

Another lethargic performance.

Heat pretty much lost all matchups with teams in front, and won matchups with teams behind. So thats about it, 8th in the east.

Same old story for the Heat. They beat a terrible team, then they beat a team with their best player missing, So, they decide they are good, and then they play a team with an all black lineup (Franz being hurt actually helps against a team that uses three players now who always wilt against an all black lineup). Kaspar joins Ty and Niko in the, I can’t play against an all black team malady.
Both the Jazz and the Suns played a few white guys and that made KJ and Niko feel okay. Same thing always happened to Ty. Think back about when Ty played well and when he didn’t and not a perfect pattern emerges, but a very clear one nonetheless. If you still don’t believe this equation to be true, keep watching as the year unfolds and it will become apparent.
No one else is going to say it, but it’s the truth. It’s not true of Simone, JJJ or Pelle, but it is of those three. It’s been proven time and again with Ty and Niko, but Kaspar embarrassed himself last nite, looked a lot like Niko, got upset like Niko does. KJ is young and could still flip the script, but now you do have to be worried if he’s another one. It was already a bad draft choice as he is a project who won’t contribute for at least another year, if ever. There is real concern as to where he fits, as stop dreaming, he’s not a PG!
These players have been a great GM’s downfall as psychologically, Riley lives vicariously thru these guys. Then he gives them long term contracts and then nobody else wants them. And they become unmovable and we get stuck with them and are forced to play them, because Riley can never admit a mistake. This has two very negative impacts. One, it destroys the team spirit, thus we stay mired in mediocrity despite having some really good talent. And two, it makes no black players want to come here. If he gives Kaspar a long term contract, you will know Riley has gone nuts.
No one else will say it. I’m sorry I had to. It’s ruined the Heat over the last few years.

It’s just a game. Don’t take it so seriously. If you want serious, turn on the news. They’re stopping people without cause, breaking into their cars and homes because someone “suspects” they “might” be undocumented. They’re shooting people and doing a thousand other terrible things. That’s serious. This is just a game. Chill 30. Who knows, Riley may still pull a rabbit out of his ***.

Yes, those things are horrible, but there is some good happening where the true evil of the world may soon be gone. There was genius in stopping those ghost ship oil tankers, which were a way around the sanctions for Iran. Should have been done long ago. The ayatollahs are the worst human beings on the planet and maybe they will soon lose power. Their true nature cane out, evil I knew existed all along, where they gunned down at least 30,000 of their own people, probably far more. Those brave people marched, knowing it could happen, because they were broke. They were already broke and then the currency became 50% less valuable. They already had water shortages so bad they were thinking of moving the whole city of Tehran. They had power outages everyday for hours. Yet the leadership spent a great portion of their oil income on rockets, ballistic missiles, propping up foreign insurgencies, and enriching uranium far beyond the need for peaceful purposes. They had one thing in mind, attacking the west. The “resistance” means putting that goal above all else, including their own people. People who see the world as either Muslims or infidels should never be in power. Those people need to evolve, embrace diversity, and become part of the community of man.
So, there may be some good coming. And, this is coming from a lifelong hard core, but not ideological liberal, and we have Mr Trump to thank for that.

I agree about Iran. We also cannot ignore what is happening in Palestine where casualties are even higher. Over half their population is under 18. I guess some folks forgot to “Never Forget.” Injustice is injustice, no matter what mask it wears. See, basketball isn’t all that big a deal after all, is it?

Really?

For your information, most of the people in the world, including me, especially after the Greenland rant, thinks, that if you yanks would stay at home and mind your own business, the world would be a much better place.

Stick with basketball. This forum is no place for this.

Sorry, you’re right about Greenland. And, we do have to let things go down internally in Iran. But, not letting those ghost tankers skirt the tariffs, brilliant, until Iran acts like a responsible nation and uses their oil money to help the people and not foment war. The people are suffering there. They only want what everyone else does, freedom to live their lives the way they choose.
I will now go back to basketball.

ive been saying the obvious for a while race had lot to do with this lossand this mediocrity when u have skinny wiggins trying to guard banchero u have a dumbot coach .bam is the only cover for banchero.and u have ware out there for carter and isaac.so dumbot plays ware 7 minutes.u have black out there and your trying to guard him with kaspar lol.gardner in his short stint here has looked better than cement feet and is right now a better nba player.kasper is a man with no position similar to spobotovic..with all this being said if u just give bam ware jjj wiggy norm 30 plus mins a night we would win a few more games.just put jjj at the point and see wtf happens how dare this org force us on a 3 1/2 year failed experiment.its a failure the niko experience admit riley blew it again and move on.i dont believe a black player would not want to come here though 30 u still have bam ware norm wiggy 4 good to above average players.everybody knows jjjs a baller.pelle is nails so thats 6 pretty good players and dav should be back soon hopefully ,team is lacking a ss white or black get one,i was listening to chris haynes on nba net he says heat are frontrunner for greek..we shall see if he comes here i dont give a f who they give up

I hope I didn’t upset too many people with my words. I didn’t enjoy hitting everyone so harshly. I didn’t really get into the weeds of my theory, but players who are thin and lanky seem most prone to these issues. There is more to it, such as 4 minutes of Mo Wagner doesn’t dilute the effect. Only when you play big minutes of a Grayson Allen and a Connor Gillespie does the effect make a Ty or Niko feel more comfortable. There is a lot more to it than that and it’s not a perfect theory, but one that does have, let’s just say, a clear correlation.
But, Kaspar was a real stretch as a draft pick, especially after what happened with Ty and Niko. It’s been Riley’s Waterloo. He let his emotions color his choices. Some will say, but Ty is an all star. Maybe so, but why then does no team want hiim. The other teams see what you and I do.
I do hope Kaspar, with his stronger body, can overcome it like Pelle, JJJ, and Simone can. But, Kaspar could be, like you say, a player with no clear position. And, even though there were plenty of exceptions over the years, like Toni Kukoc, who was a real skinny, but very good player, it has mostly worked out not as well. And, that’s brings us to another part of my theory, the sheltering superstar effect.
Anyway, I appreciate that you often see what I do.

Thank you for your honest assessment of kj, I don’t care if he’s a consensus top pick how come he didn’t go top then? Also before the draft could’ve sworn some around here said he didn’t play well vs top teams/talent. SMH Pat just couldn’t help himself as soon as he was there. Some here also complain about lack of frontcourt players. Meanwhile asa Newell should have been the pick lmao it’s embarrassing honestly Pat lives vicariously through the herros jovics jjj pelles kjs of the world

I said it right when he was drafted but was shot down, and rightfully so, because he deserves a chance. He still deserves a chance and, as a Heat player, I will root him on. But, would I have made that pick, absolutely not. He is, at best,,a project. Would I keep my GM, if I was an owner, after his last six draft picks, absolutely not. And then he compounded the errors by giving out contracts without the player proving their worth. People always give credit for the good moves Pat used to make and still occasionally does, but you got to do better than the 16.5% on your picks, and that’s even taking into account they were mid round picks. They are first rounders, after all.
Sometimes it is hard to Wade thru the current bogus crap when I remember what once was.

You are obviously not sorry you had to (say it). You have said multiple times that you would not bring it up again, yet here we are. And I will say this once again – if we put prime Jokic, Dirk, Bird, Doncic, and Stockton on the floor, everyone would be beyond ecstatic! There would be no issue whatsoever about color. So, again, it is about the quality of the player, not the color. Riley and co took Winslow and Precious (they were black, by the way) for the same reason he took Kas. They didn’t work out and maybe Kas won’t either. I had hoped they chose 2 or 3 other players last draft, but admittedly had no clue who Kas was.
And no black player wants to come here? Come on. I haven’t heard of Powell, Wiggins, Mitchell, or others refusing to report or requesting a trade. And Ja recently, and Lillard in the past, amongst others, indicated the Heat were a preferred destination.

Mia takes the trash yt players because they pick so late in the draft. You are correct in the quality of player Mia either needs to stop picking so late. And your one of them ones who wanted a frontcourt player while Newell was on the board when they picked kas yet you say nothing about that. Always up here defending and projecting player the if if if game all the time. They pick trash yt players stop getting upset at those who see threw pat living vicariously through those picks

Yes, I wanted them to get a pf/c to backup our bigs and slide to pf as needed. But they also needed a better pg. I thought Mitchell and Dru could hold down the position, but I was probably wrong. The players I liked at 20 were Powell, Newell, Clifford, and Richardson. I would admit that my first choice there would’ve been Jase Richardson.

The ones who did come got traded here. They are getting paid extremely well and they are professionals and they are making the best of it. The others just used us for leverage. Why does noone else pick 4 out of 6 white guys in the last six drafts. Think it was a coincidence? I keep talking about it because the impact of it keeps manifesting itself in so many ways. So now, as we watch the development of Kas, we see he is far away at best. Why pick someone far away when most teams opt for getting help asap?

Some here have previously noted that if you are going to count Jaquez as white, then you should categorize mixed race players differently, since so many players are mixed race. In fact, most people are mixed race of some type. So, granted, while I don’t know the exact stats, even 3 out of 6 drafts may be way out of the norm. In recent years, I have repeatedly asked the blog members to tell me IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE DRAFT who they feel we should have taken instead of the player chosen. I rarely get an answer, but some are quick to use great 20/20 hindsight once they have time to see how the other draft choices have developed. I consider that bogus. I might as well assert that Riley made another big mistake when he chose P J Hairston (a black guy) over, yes, Nikola Jokic (very white) in the 2014 draft.
Check the 10 people chosen after Herro. Not one was better. Among the 10 players chosen after Precious were Maxey, Quickley, Pritchard and Bane. I think all 4 turned out better. Of the 10 chosen after Jovic, the ultimately better players were Nembhard and Christie. There were no better players of the 10 chosen after Jaquez. Ware was a great pick imo. As noted, I would have chosen several players over Kas, but I knew nothing about him.
