We are less than three weeks away from the highly anticipated 2026 NBA Draft. There may not be a “generational” prospect, so to speak, but the class is led by three slam dunk talents that include AJ Dybantsa — the presumptive favorite to go No. 1 overall — plus Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. Those three are flanked by one of the deepest point guard classes ever, led by Darius Acuff and Kingston Flemings.
This is a can’t-miss class inside the top-25. Though there are bigger fish — a 6-foot-11 fish who happens to be a two-time MVP — that the Miami Heat are trying to fry nearly two weeks out. Whether Miami will be able to place it on the sizzling skillet in time remains to be seen, but Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee appears to be nearing its close.
With Miami at the forefront of those conversations, they will need to empty the tank unless the 10-time All-Star puts his fingerprints on the negotiations. Nevertheless, the Heat are likely going to have to include their No. 13 overall draft choice.
But in a potential package led by Tyler Herro and Kel’el Ware, could that pick … their most valuable? Let’s examine!

Why the Heat’s 2026 pick is their most valuable asset
Over the next seasons, the Heat have three tradable first-round picks — their 2026 selection, as well as their 2031 and 2033 first-round picks. They also have a number of OK assets, led by Ware, their second-best player asset behind Bam Adebayo.
Though you could make an argument that he’s still not their most valuable asset.
For one, as I mentioned earlier, this is a stacked draft class in the first round. The quantity of quality depth tailors off heading into the second round, although the Heat — or any team drafting in the lottery — will have a sure-fire talent available to them in the lottery.
It’s not a guarantee that the team drafting at No. 13 chooses to draft said talent; every team has its own board and philosophy. But there will be a number of intriguing prospects regardless.
And productive players on cost-controlled contracts are a gold mine in today’s NBA.
Look at San Antonio and Oklahoma City, for example. Yes, both have premier talents in Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, respectively. But both teams hit on cheap talent in the beginning of their builds with Stephon Castle, Jalen Williams, Ajay Mitchell and Cason Wallace, respectively.
If the Bucks rebuild by trading away arguably their franchise’s greatest player, it’s back to square one. Their recent draft history is horrendous, but acquiring as many picks as possible is beneficial in the case they fortuitously land a very good player.
Additionally, Ware is a polarizing player, and he would be arguably the top name coming back to the Bucks. Herro’s a near-negative asset, and a collection of Jaime Jaquez Jr., Pelle Larsson, Nikola Jovic and Kasparas Jakucionis may suffice. Larsson and Jakucionis are the best two of that bunch, but the former is better suited on a contender, and the latter is still quite raw (despite a very intriguing skillset/good contract).
There’s a world where the player drafted at No. 13 is the best of the bunch. Time will tell if that’s the case. But the prospects of two top-13 picks, in this instance, should be quite intriguing to Milwaukee, players notwithstanding.
