Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. exited their 10-point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first half with what the team described of a right ankle sprain.
Jaquez played just 10 minutes before rolling his ankle while trying to defend Timberwolves big Julius Randle. After the game, head coach Erik Spoelstra provided a brief update on Jaquez’s status.
“We’ll find out,” Spoelstra said on the severity of the injury. “You never know with those things until the next day. I mean, he’s not walking out of here in a boot, but I don’t know if that’s an indication of anything.”
Jaquez, 24, has been one of the Heat’s most dynamic offensive players this season. He entered the contest averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game, sporting a career-best 58.4 true-shooting percentage despite being a below-average 3-point shooter.
“I think I tweaked it a little bit on [Julius Randle’s] foot,” Jaquez told reporters after the game. “Tried to tape it up, go back, get some runs in the back and it wasn’t feeling right.”
While there hasn’t been an official injury report disclosed yet, it’s fair to assume that he won’t suit up Sunday night against the New Orleans Pelicans, the second night of a back-to-back.
The Heat will meet up with Minnesota again Tuesday before games against Chicago, Indiana and Oklahoma City over the next week.

He’s tough. He’ll be back soon.
I was just wondering how good this team would be if Herro was coming in off the bench dropping 20+ and Rozier’s salary was being used to bring in another good front court player (like Reid or Portis) or a clutch scorer like DeRozan. We’ll never know.
I know, it’s a shame we haven’t gotten to find out. Maybe we will soon. The Rozier thing could take another year or it could be ruled on today. And that is probably why we are kind of stuck not being able to do anything because any deal the Heat might make would likely be so different if the Heat knew what the league was going to do about Rozier.
My guess is it’s probably not too bad. This is a rugged game and Jaime does not back down, which is one reason he’s one of my favorites. Get well soon Jaimie.
