Heat drop another in Toronto 128-114 and suffer 0-4 season sweep versus Raptors

(Mandatory credit: Miami Heat/X)

The Miami Heat have failed to compete with the Toronto Raptors all season long, as they were handed their second straight loss to them on the road on Thursday night— this time with a final score of 128-114.

The Heat have now lost 10 of their last 13 games. They are on track to finishing the season at an even 41-41, .500 record if they are unable to secure at least one of their final two upcoming regular season games. They are currently at 41-39 overall.

Toronto had officially swept Miami in their season series 4-0, with both these final two losses coming in double-digit fashion for the Heat. They have had no answers for this Raptors team and came out completely flat against them for the second consecutive matchup. Brandon Ingram scorched the Heat defense once again, totaling a game-high 38 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists on an efficient 13 of 23 shooting.

For Miami, Bam Adebayo had a nice bounce back effort of 24 points, 11 boards and 8 assists. He shot 9 of 14 from the field and 2 of 4 from deep. Unfortunately, there was very minimal help elsewhere in the rotation. Davion Mitchell added a 15 points and 11 assists double-double, but that was about it.

Both Tyler Herro and Norman Powell were no where to be found. Herro came out to a nice start with a pair of triples early on, but only finished the game with a pedestrian 15 points. Powell, who was listed as questionable with a groin injury again, ended up playing but only contributing 7 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Ever since Powell earned his way to first time All-Star status back in February, he has felt with an assortment of injury problems and has not looked the same.

As fans have recently began criticizing coach Erik Spoelstra’s management of Kel’el Ware’s role again recently, he was once again held to limited minutes. He appeared in just 11 minutes in his reserve role. The lack of emphasis on utilizing Ware’s talent has been questionable all season long, but even more so in a matchup like the Raptors that have a lot of size and length across all positions.

Both teams shot the ball well, going over 50% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. However, the Heat allowed more offensive rebounds leading to second chance points. Most importantly, Miami committed 13 turnovers to the Raptors’ 4, which created easy fast break opportunities for extra points for Toronto.

Miami will now play their second night of a back-to-back Friday evening versus the Washington Wizards to conclude this final regular season road trip.

You know, as a basketball fan I’d much rather see Charlotte make the playoffs this year…
