It has seemed like trade rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks have lingered in the media for years now. However, NBA fans may finally see an overdue blockbuster deal for the former multi-time MVP within the next few months.
And the Miami Heat will reportedly be “first in line” to take yet another swing at their coveted whale in Giannis.
Interest from Miami’s side on acquiring Antetokounmpo dates all the way back to 2020, and has resurfaced several times since. Most recently, as Heat fans are well familiar with, they took a swing at this year’s trade deadline— but came up short. It may not be what people want to hear, but it wasn’t because of the front office failing to make it happen.
Milwaukee is the one who slammed the door on all Giannis trade offers in February, hoping to receive some sweeteners to those offers when teams got access to more draft capital this summer. As frustrating as it was at the time that the Bucks and Antetokounmpo divorce was going to be stalled yet again, Milwaukee was willing to be patient in agreeing to any trade for their homegrown superstar from the beginning. Now, the Heat and other rival teams will indeed have more assets to leverage in negotiations.
This is reportedly the summer that an inevitable Giannis deal is officially going to go down.
Recent reports from national media have suggested that after years of “will they, won’t they,” the Bucks seem motivated to finally pull the trigger on this long anticipated Antetokounmpo blockbuster:
Milwaukee is going nowhere anytime soon with Giannis on this roster. They failed to even reach the play-in tournament in the weaker Eastern Conference this season. There has already been another head coaching change before this current 2025-26 campaign even ended. Additionally, the Bucks haven’t made it out of the first round of the postseason since 2022.
Unfortunately for Milwaukee, the writing has been on the wall for a long time to embrace a new era.
Miami presents them an opportunity to do so by giving them the option of acquiring several talented young players and up to three first-round draft picks, two second-round picks and several future pick swaps— including their 13th overall selection in the upcoming June NBA draft.
They are arguably the best trade partner for Milwaukee out there as a team that can offer a bit of everything that they want to kickstart a rebuild. The gamble of Miami trading away their future to double down on the present seems to be something they are prepared to do if it means getting Antetokounmpo in a Heat jersey.

My guess is it would take more than this but this would be a great trade for the Heat. Send #13 this year, then owe just two FRPs going forward. Indiana in comparison traded two firsts (#5 this year and a 2029 first) for Zubac
Also why Herro for Ja and a first would be a terrible trade, if a trade like this where Herro’s contract is needed for salary matching is out there.
Need salary, players, and picks to make a trade, plus an on court fit and acceptable location for Giannis, Heat have all of those
This trade proposal you found isn’t so one sided for us as to be ridiculous, and it might be enough, particularly if Giannis tipped the scales in our favor. I could see the Bucks not wanting Jovic, and his contract, and us having to send Pelle or Jaime instead, and that would be ok. I know the numbers would need to be rebalanced. But, if we have to give up any more, I say pass on the deal. The whole idea of this trade depends on having enough left to be immediately competitive and for Giannis to play on a competitive team.
Yeah I think keeping Jaquez and Jakucionis while also getting rid of Jovic’s 4/60 longterm money is extremely favorable to Heat to the point of being one-sided. I think the author assumes Milwaukee lack of leverage would keep the Heat from having to include more, not sure I agree. Bucks would definitely be asking for way more
Healthy Giannis almost singlehandedly is going to make a team competitive though, Bucks were +4 in his minutes this past year, would have been a top 10 net rating. They fell apart -10 when he was on the bench
We should believe it when it happens. I did think 2015 cane up with an intriguing offer that could actually be enough for the Bucks unless another team offers something outrageous. And that offer would also potentially keep enough good players on our team that we could actually put together a competitive team. That competetive team would be dependent on how the Rozier money was used and either the players, Wiggins and Powell, or using the money saved by not having either or both of them. One positive impact of getting Giannis, that hasn’t been discussed much, is the possibility that other good players would want to jump aboard, maybe even at a friendly price.
I agree strongly with your first sentence that seeing is believing in this case. And there have been proposals by several, including 2015, that could work. And I mentioned on the previous thread about the veterans, especially players who had not yet won a ring. In the past, it was Gary Payton, Jason Williams, Shane Battier, even Birdman.
The good thing is fans should know which way Miami is going by the end of June.
Better than the death by 1,000 cuts process we’ve been subjected to the past 4 years.
Time for Riley to
lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.
Bam’s raise and Jovic’s new contract eat up most of the Rozier money. If Jovic is not included in the deal, the only way Miami can be competitive is if he regains his mojo.
