Amid an ongoing federal gambling probe linked to Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, more details were obtained and disclosed regarding the investigation on Friday.
According to ESPN’s David Purdum, a professional bettor placed a total of 30 wagers on Rozier’s unders for points, rebounds and assists in a March 23, 2023, game when he was with the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Rozier finished with just five points, four rebounds and two assists and left after 10 minutes with a foot issue.
Here is an excerpt from Purdum’s report:
“On the morning of March 23, 2023, a bettor at a sportsbook in Biloxi, Mississippi, placed $13,759 in bets on the unders on Rozier’s statistics in a game that night between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, according to the documents, which ESPN acquired through an open records request,” the report read. “All 30 bets won, after Rozier, an eight-year veteran with the Hornets at the time, exited 10 minutes into the game, citing a foot issue.
“In all, at least six sportsbooks in multiple states detected suspicious betting on Rozier props that day, with the bulk of the activity occurring in Louisiana and Mississippi, according to sources familiar with a report issued by U.S. Integrity, a firm that monitors the betting market for abnormalities.
“The NBA investigated the unusual activity in 2023 and found that no league rules were violated. … The bettor in Biloxi placed the bets at Harrah’s Gulf Coast on the under on Rozier’s points, rebounds and assists, according to a list of wagers included in the documents. The largest bet, a $2,700 wager on under 5.5 rebounds for Rozier, was made over the counter, using a casino player’s card.”
According to Purdum’s report, Rozier was not listed on the Hornets’ pregame injury report and the alleged bettor won north of $13K as a result.
He has been tied to this federal investigation since January, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. There is still no evidence that Rozier has been linked to any wrongdoing, but this report appears quite damning.
The 6-foot-2 guard is entering the final year of his contract with the Miami Heat. Roughly 95 percent of his $26.6 million contract ($24.9M) is guaranteed, one of six Heat standard contracts that are expiring.

Kuminga situation starting to look a little Butler-ish. Unless they trade him, it seems they will have a very disgruntled player going forward. One of the problems, again with some annoying quirks these days, is that GS can only take back half of his contract. For example, if they do a sign and trade for $20m a year, GS can only take back $10m in salary. The other team takes the full $20m hit to their cap, but only unloads $10m to GS. This CBA is worse than the IRS tax code.
That would be fine by me. Trade for Kuminga, only don’t trade Wiggins, send either Ty or Terry, and we would now have a good looking team, closer to competitive than we have been in awhile. We would still need a backup big, and maybe add another two way wing at the deadline. Why can’t we do that? For Ty, it would be a fair trade too, and take care of each teams contract issues, maybe Golden State would give us a filler to make the salaries match up better. For Terry, we would have to sweeten the deal.
It doesn’t work. Per that example, GS could not take in an equal amount of money. Let’s say we agreed to give .kuminga a 3 year $25m a year deal. GS would only be able to take back $12.5m.

Gonna have to come up with a better solution 30 cuz that dog won’t hunt.
when your playing with steph klay wigg your option 4.he really hasnt been featured like ty has ,id rather have kuminga than ty.in playoffs ty is usually hurt or plays like crape.u do realize theres 2 facets of a players game offense and defense.if kuminga got 35 mins a game hes a 20 pt player .ive seen him at times look like paolo banchero of orlando thats who he can become if given the oppty
You guys can keep thinking up pie in the scenarios that don’t work. I prefer to use NBA Trade Machine to see if the money matches.
As RC said: if they do a sign and trade for $20m a year, GS can only take back $10m in salary. The other team takes the full $20m hit to their cap, but only unloads $10m to GS.
When it comes to Kuminga, the money doesn’t match for Miami and most other teams. Plus, the dude seems to be developing an attitude even though he is the one who turned down their generous offer of $30M for 5 years ($150M) because he thought he could get more. Now, he is in a situation where he can’t even get $25M. Actions have consequences. Just like Caleb Martin, he appears to have screwed himself. You live and you learn.
The more I think about, the more I like keeping Wiggins until/unless a proven better option comes along. After all, he is a proven two-way player who averages 18-20 ppg. I can live with that.
On the other hand, I think Miami has no alternative but to trade Herro for the best player available (or young assets and draft picks). The sooner the better, before this develops into another Butler fiasco. I hope Riley learned his lesson from that clusterf***.
wiggy is a nice #3 4 option type player.his 18 pts per game are not very impactful (soft player)hes not the problema.as i have stated many times and u have eluded to it if bam is your #1 guy u are a playin team.bam is 2nd best player a contender for ecf.third best player a finals contender.until that changes we’re fkd
It could be done, but they’d have to include a third team to take one of our players in return for draft picks or a lower salary player.
3max deals fks u up unless they are 3 steph curry type players
my guess is there deposing lots of people and gathering enough evidence to get terry indicted.the longer it goes on the worse for terry i believe.if the lawyers didnt think they had a case they would have dropped it by now.one game that the heavy betting was going on for unders terry exits game
Innocent until proven guilty. You’re getting to sound like one of those conspiracy theory types. As 30 said, they have to prove that he has a motive. The team was playing in New Orleans at the time. Maybe a Pelican employee overhead something about Rozier’s health and ran with it.
This has been going on far too long at this point. If they are unable to find enough proof to exonerate or indict him after this much time, they are pretty incompetent. If they have enough evidence to indict, then do it. That would fully void his contract and get him off our books and free up the budget for another player. If there’s not enough evidence, stop torturing this guy with the sword of Damocles constantly hanging over his head.
I’m having a hard time piecing together information on this one (also I’m not, like, super interested in doing a deep-dive here?) but the impression I get is that the NBA did an investigation on their own, and that investigation cleared Rozier, but the US government later started their own separate investigation just this year or late last year, and now *that one* is the one that everyone is talking about.
Sounds right. Or the 2 investigations were parallel and the league reached a conclusion, but the FBI didn’t.
NBA’s investigation was an internal administrative process. The feds are looking at it from a criminal perspective. They must have obtained new leads they are pursuing prior to making a final determination. The amount of money is so small, I can’t see someone making tens of millions of dollars risking his career, freedom and reputation for such a small return. Unless they can prove he somehow benefitted from the bets, I think they have nothing.
This. I think you hit it on the head and answered my question as to why Rozier wasn’t charged with all the circumstantial evidence (which did look quite bad). They could not establish a motive.
And, maybe something else fooled me. The fact that he never played another game after that one for Charlotte implies the Hornets were displeased with Terry’s behavior. But, what if only a few games occurred after the one he got injured in before the trade and he was merely still injured. That is possible.
I see now that he did not play the remainder of the 2023 season but must have played in the next year before we traded for him in Jan, 2024.
i felt like terry was missing shots on purpose last year.i posted on many nights his shots were so off not even close to going in.
I thought the same thing about the quitter. Taking shots off wrong foot. Standing in the corner doing nothing. Not driving to the rim. Not hustling. He was much more obvious than Rozier. I wonder if he or his buddies made a bet or two on the games when he quit/intentionally slacked off? That should be investigated.
Well the games in question were when he was with Charlotte.
Innocent until proven guilty. Meanwhile, he’ll be money down the drain for Miami until/unless he gets his “Mojo” back.
why the f would terry do this he doesnt need the $$$,
Why would a millionaire actress *shoplift? Who tf knows. It will all come out in the wash, one way or another.
*Several well-known actors have faced legal trouble for shoplifting. Some notable examples include Winona Ryder, who was arrested for shoplifting at Saks Fifth Avenue in 2001. Lindsay Lohan was also caught shoplifting a necklace from a jewelry store in 2011. Additionally, Megan Fox admitted to shoplifting makeup from Walmart.
what would happen if hes found guilty .what happens to his $$$ is it guaranteed or would we have $$$ to get a good player
Contract would be voided
No mas dinero $26,643,031 plus an open roster spot.
Do what? He hasn’t been tried or convicted of doing anything.
I admit it’s a hell of a coincidence that he got hurt that game, that early, but it is possible. The amounts bet were so paltry it’s hard to believe that he got much for taking a dive. I can’t make a case for any scenario where Terry did this. It makes no sense. Also, if the evidence is exactly what’s in this article., why did they let him off the hook. That makes no sense either. Something may be missing from the story.
I know. One guy made $13k. Not exactly running out to buy a place on Fisher Island.
