It still doesn’t feel quite real, but Miami Heat big Bam Adebayo just had one of the best games any of us will ever witness.
Adebayo scored 83 points, passing Kobe Bryant for the second-highest scoring game in NBA History, just 17 points shy of Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point record.
Adebayo etched his name into basketball lore forever. His girlfriend, four-time WNBA MVP and Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson, and mom were in attendance. And Wilson had a hilarious reaction to the Heat’s four-time All-Star eclipsing 80-plus points.
“Welp won’t have the highest career high in the house anymore,” she posted on Threads. “But at least it gives me something to go after.”
Wilson scored 53 points on August 22, 2023, in a game against the Atlanta Dream. She shot 16-of-23 from the floor and 20-of-21 from the charity stripe, adding seven rebounds and four blocks in 33 minutes.
The historic performance tied the WNBA record in single-game scoring set by Liz Cambage in 2018.
“To have 83 (in) the first game she’s here is very special,” Adebayo said after the historic feat. “The behind-the-scenes, the workouts, the conversations — they’re very motivating, and obviously, you see what she does.
“You get inspired by that. I’m thankful to have her in my life.”
Forget Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, this is the real power couple across sports.
Now, Wilson, widely regarded as one of the greatest WNBA players ever, will have some serious legwork if she wants to recapture the bragging rights in the household.
We will be talking about this night forever, and for every reason you could possibly think of.
Wilt. Bam. Kobe.
Boom.
