Tyler Herro to make season debut Monday against Mavericks

Believe it or not, it gets better for the Miami Heat.

It’s official: Tyler Herro will be returning to the Heat lineup Monday against the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported Sunday evening.

Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds first reported last week about the possibility of the 6-foot-5 guard returning on Monday.

Herro, who underwent foot surgery in September, hasn’t appeared in a single game this season. He played a career-high 77 games after playing a career-low 42 games in 2023-24.

Herro made the All-Star team for the first time in his career a year ago, averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from 3-point range.

The Heat will be adding him to the 12th-most efficient offense in the sport. Herro should provide another boost offensively, though it’s fair to question his point-of-attack defense. Norman Powell’s filled in amicably in his absence, leading the team in scoring (25.4 ppg) on 50.0 percent shooting and 46.4 percent from 3-point range.

Monday’s game against the Mavericks will be the second night of a back-to-back. The Heat are riding a four-game win streak after their 127-117 win over the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday.

Well, it’s not going to be about what any of us want or don’t want. Herro has been one of the better players on this team since he got here. He is going to play if he’s healthy. I believe run and gun fits his style and skill set. I am curious how they integrate him and if he will be on a minutes restriction at first.

I dont expect any problems. The new style requires a lot of players playing full gas in their time. You can see Powell barely able to walking when his time in first qt. is over. There were games, where the opposite team doesn’t want to foul to keep the Heat starters longer on court.

IMO, everybody will get minutes, and they will give it all in that time to earn to play final minutes. I m expecting 150 or even 160 points in a game till new year.

im not changing anything.until i have to.no need to call the bullpen.if we have a 3 game losing streak then maybe.we finally have solved our achilles heel rebounding.ware bam keshad thank u very much..we have solved our d thank u very much whole team.u bring back ty our d takes major hit.we have enough scoring dont see the need for a herro.this team right now is as good as it can be w/o a legit ss.unless u get a player better than norm leave it the f alone.package herro wiggy shnoz for a durantish type ss only way to improve this team

Just remember how we were doing before Ty’s return, 10-6. This is a team on a four game win streak. And we played a tough schedule. Ty deserves a period of acclimation, a little rope for maybe 3-4 games. His return will necessitate some changes in rotations and roles. But, after that let’s hope his usage is merit based, and let’s also hope we use him optimally for team needs and results.

11-6. He better ease into it and not try to make up for 17 games all at one time. He will have either a positive or negative impact. If it is positive one, some minor adjustments will be needed. If it is negative, Riley will need to get on the phone and see what deals might be available between Dec 15th and the trade deadline.

Thanks for correcting me. 11-6 is a pretty damn good record.

Hopefully go to 12-6 tomorrow. Dallas not playing very well lately. Irving and Lively out, AD questionable.

I would hope that Spo doesn’t immediately change what has developed into an impressive starting lineup. I think, for better or worse, after getting up to speed, he may unseat Davion in the rotation, or maybe Pelle. Both have done so well in their roles so far. I’m guessing it will be Pelle since Davion is excelling at pg right now with his assist and assist to turnover ratio. But it’s not all bad. A second unit of Jaquez, Pelle, Simone, and Dru alongside Bam or Ware should be very effective. The next dilemma is when Wiggins returns. I definitely don’t want to see any change in the dominating front line of Bam-Ware.

Agreed…. Must keep that tandem going.

Herro on second unit would make it pretty potent if Pelle and Mitchell stay in starting unit. Dru, Herro, Wiggins, Jaquez,
Bam/Wate

Thats probably the plan. Even Dru Smith have strict minutes of 15 in the earlier games because they were trying to check if his good to go after post surgery treatment. They are now currently in a position where they dont need to rush and play a just recovered star for 20+ mintues
