Can you believe that it’s already been nearly 16 years since LeBron James’ infamous The Decision?
In July 2010, James quite literally altered the NBA, Miami Heat and his own career forever — all in one night. The buildup and announcement sent a euphoric shockwave around the globe, where many across South Florida roared while many others likely gave the bird to their TVs.
Nearly two decades later, the Miami Heat are still chasing that ecstasy that brought a pair of championship parades and two more Finals runs to Biscayne Bay. For four years, Miami was the city that never slept; the buzz never quieted, for better or worse. James wasn’t the only one. The “stars” have largely defined the Heat, from Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning to Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Bosh.
The word “star” is ingrained in the Miami Heat’s logo, if you look closely. To a fault of their own, they know no other way.
Most recently, Jimmy Butler pulled the Heat away from the doldrums of mediocrity in 2019, resulting in two more Finals appearances. Butler’s run was fun — very fun, actually. But his time soured like a carton of milk. Now that we’re over one year removed from his disgruntled exit, the Heat are back to square one: Chasing a star to pair alongside Bam Adebayo.
To some extent, there’s merit to chase a star. Miami doesn’t have one outside of Bam Adebayo. They are missing that key, elite centerpiece that many teams sought. In the annals of history, stars have driven title success.
However, how championship teams acquire said stars has changed.
Even though we’re only 16 years since James’ decision, stars don’t enter free agency anymore. Elite talents hit the trade market every so often, but for a price that’s too damning for a mediocre team to pay for short-term gain (i.e. James Harden to Nets; Kawhi Leonard/Paul George to Thunder). And if the price isn’t too high, it’s met the ire and alienation that Dallas Mavericks fans still resonate to this day with the Luka Doncic blockbuster.
Even non-elite — albeit very good — talents, such as Mikal Bridges and Desmond Bane, have unexpectedly gone for a haul of draft capital. With free agency dissolving, when stars are at — or near the peak of their powers — trading is the only palatable path to acquire them.
Though nowadays, the foremost route to supply talent before they reach that point is through the draft. The punitive aprons have only heightened the importance of the two-day spectacle. It’s the earliest time when teams invest stock in the league’s future building blocks, when they’re at their cheapest. Some drafts are better than others. Last year’s draft — spearheaded by Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper — has already looked like a huge hit. This year’s class offers a similar amount of intrigue. We won’t know for another few years, though the signs are promising.
There was a time when free agency and “star chasing,” so to speak, outweighed the draft. But that tide has turned, and the pendulum has swung back the other way.
Yet, the Heat haven’t quite received that memo.
This summer’s comet appears to be Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The two-time MVP and his camp have teased a possible trade for the last several months. Still, though, no red button has been pushed. But the Bucks’ roster and lack of resources provide a limited opportunity for Antetokounmpo, who appeared in just 36 games last season, to compete for a championship, which he desires most.
Thus, the game of chicken continues. Although we know one team that won’t be afraid to scream “Polo” at the other end of the pool: The Heat.
To their own detriment, too.
Miami’s roof is leaking. The league is permeated with great young talent, yet Miami is still without a true building block alongside Adebayo. Kel’el Ware’s the closest they have. But his low motor brings into question whether his potential will be actualized, or whether it will be fool’s gold. Miami possesses a fairly average crop of young talent thereafter, buoyed by Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Pelle Larsson. It barely owns any second-round draft capital; it waited too long to recognize when it should have moved a slew of veterans (Norman Powell, Tyler Herro and Andrew Wiggins, among several others) and owns a limited stash of first-round draft capital.
Instead of fixing the roof, the Miami Heat keep trying to replace their … air conditioner?
Every building needs a functional AC. But the rest of the foundation also needs to be kept serviceable and habitable.
Alas, it’s time to fix the ****ing roof.
Not every team needs to star hunt to maintain relevance. Most don’t. But for the Heat, that’s been their only source the last half-decade, losing sight of what makes a championship team a championship team and how they’re constructed.
Instead, they’re chasing the euphoria felt 16 seasons ago. The most baffling proposition is how poorly they prepared for Giannis and every other star it’s pursued. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, it will be in their best interest to take a step back — figuratively and literally — and learn from its mistakes.
Time will tell if they do. And if they don’t, they’re going to continue being left behind by the rest of the league and, most importantly, the stars eluding them.

great listen for sunman
This was after the NBA’s investigation “cleared” Rozier of wrongdoing. Charlotte should return our 2027, pay Rozier’s 2025-2026 salary and also forfeit the 2026 second rounder as a penalty.

I start out every season optimistic and then after the first four or five games I realize that not much has changed
malik willis big change
I hope they do well. I think they had a good draft.
drafts are always good rc until thery actually play
That’s the way you see it
how do u know how good these guys will be .i know u know hoops not sure about football
I usually gain more knowledge about pro and college football in preseason and then during the season. In the last preseasons, I liked Chop and Achane. I like the idea that Malik gives us a more mobile qb. I regret that we squandered our best receiving tandem since Duper and Clayton and now they’re both gone. I do not know a lot of specifics about the hockey and baseball teams.
chops to small to play d end 3 downs, hes a one trick pony at best rush passer on 3rd downs.achanes great but small durability might be an issue hes already banged up.tyreek coming off major injury making boat load $$,bad character guy.we got a first for waddle,we shall see how the new cb turns out.u know in football qb determines your fate hope for the best for malik, baseball team irrelevant.panthers still have a chance for jewelry gotta stay healthy.the only way we’ll meet in next few years is at a panthers parade

Who said the Spurs wouldn’t win another game?
ill bet okc to win it.rc versus your spurs
So you are taking the champions to win on their home court? Wow what a big risk taker you are!
And as I’ve stated previously more than once, though it doesn’t seem to sink in on you, is that I like both teams, and I expected Oklahoma to go back to back.
what do u mean by u like both teams?
I like both San Antonio and Oklahoma
and when they both sucked did u like them talk about frontrunner lol
Two years ago I suggested that we trade Butler to Oklahoma because I saw them as an up-and-coming team
that would have been a good trade rc good foresight maybe we get our next sga from that
And San Antonio has been a team I’ve liked ever since the Pop era began.
The difference is that you are a frontrunner for the team that you try and convince everybody that is your favorite team.
dolphins my fav team canes football 2 heat 3
I’ve been a Dolphins fan since 1970 and a Canes fan since I got down here in 1981, but the Heat are my favorite sports team.

I became a fan when they got my favorite receiver, Paul Warfield.
did u know wemby would be this good at beginning of year…ive never seen a guy have such an impact on a game hes the best player ive ever seen.not sure what his legacy will turn out to be how long he will play but hes the most impactful player ive ever seen.its virtually impossible to get a layup with him on ct.
He was predicted to be a truly generational player in that draft. And he is.
pat u had your chance with prime jimmy ,too late now old man.

darian fox playing like jovic this series hes been niko bad
this bryant guy is a dum ars player
this looks like a home ct series now,
Combined with a refs series. Will they keep calling flopfest 2026 for OKC?
u give the knicks a shot?
Unfortunately, I do.
It will be interesting storylines with the Knicks blowing past teams and getting lots of extra rest. Will that help them be the fresher team or will it be an issue if they are tested and find themselves in a game 6 and 7 situation? Is the length of the series the west teams are in be a hinderance or will the experience, and consistent playing, benefit them? I could see both sides which makes it interesting.
unfortunately lol.i cant see the knicks competing with these athletes.and skill(wemby sga)
If it was Spurs I think the Knicks have more league experience, while both having no Finals experience. With OKC they are defending, so experience not an issue, but they’re banged up a bit. That could be a potential issue.
I’ll be watching and rooting against the Knicks lol
knicks spurs id root for knicks
Because you’re not a true Heat fan and still a closet NY fan. I would root for Mavs and Cuban over the Knicks. 😉
Yup, the truth comes out 😆
how can a heat fan root for the spurs.i dont give a f who wins if its not the heat but the last teams id like to win spurs nyk boston cs
thats def not true sir no im not a knicks fan they banned me from their website taliking crape about them .when the spurs turned the ac off i thought that was on purpose.i hate pop s belichicish personality and the spurs.cheating and also getting dunc admiral alien knicks second most hated team on hfls list go okc
LOL! Join the flat earth society while you’re at it. 😆😆😆😆
how bout kyrie for the heat
No
The deadline for players to withdraw from the NBA draft passed on Wednesday night. One post deadline Mock Draft has Miami selecting Cameron Carr with the 13th pick, presuming players such as Philon, Lendeborg and Ament are already gone.
Miami Heat: Cameron Carr, SF, Baylor. Carr will be an interesting case because he could go in the back end of the Top 10, or he could slide to the 20s. Scouts are split here. Many believe his off-ball ability will translate to the NBA. He is 6-foot-5 with a 7-foot-1 wingspan and good shooting ability–he has the raw tools teams are looking for, and has noticeably improved over time. “I think he is moving up the more NBA people get a closer look at him,” one personnel man said. “He’s not your No. 1 option but he can be a really good No. 3 as a rookie, and a No. 2 in time.”
Cam Carr would be a solid pick
That’s my guy if the Heat were to pick. Of players that would be in the Heat’s area to pick he’s in my top 2.
My order would be Yaxel, Carr/Philon, Mara/Steinbach/Johnson. All are possible or likely to be available at 13.
I love Yaxel, but his ceiling is probably not as high, but his floor is significantly higher. He would be plug n play on the first day. I can easily see a solid, steady career for that guy.
He’s in my top 4, for me it’s philon, brayden, yaxel, then carr.
Awaiting for approval?
If it contains links to media sites or player profiles, or sometimes even quotation marks, you can get that. I once got an approval about 3 days later.
Even highlighted names triggers it. Once I see it is awaiting approval, I cut it and paste it as new post (minus highlighted items or quotation marks) and replace it with one liners such as the one above.
Yes, because the highlighted names are links. I also backspace them and type in the name.
Interesting facts:
Per Statmuse:
Jaime Jaquez Jr is the first bench player in NBA history with
1,000+ PTS
300+ REB
300+ AST
50+ 3P
in a season.
Jaime Jaquez Jr.’s upcoming rookie-scale contract extension is projected to be worth around $90 million over four years, with some projections reaching as high as $245 million for a full five-year maximum deal. He can begin negotiating an extension on July 1st.
Pelle Larsson is set to become eligible this summer for a contract extension worth up to $93 million over four years. Larsson can also officially begin extension talks with Miami on July 6, once the Heat exercises the team option on his contract before the June 29 deadline.
By the way, do you know what Giannis will cost the Heat, besides Herro, Ware, Jaquez, 3 draft picks and 2-3 pick swaps?
Because he has a player option for the 2027–28 season, his exact extension options depend on how he structures his current deal:
4 275 wow almost 70 mil a year.whats wembys deal gonna look like .gonna have to raise salary cap
Less and less $ available to pay the rest of the team.
true but thats the sacrifice u have to make for a top 5 player, hes twice the player bam is making only 1 1/2 x bams salary.bams overpaid
I’ve been doing some random “research” into potential options if the trade goes through. So considering limited amount of money, and focusing on legit options and not wishing upon a star, I can see some interesting configurations of a team.
This is if we keep Kaspar and Pelle. If we resign Powell because we trade Herro, fine. Personally, I would try to get Grimes from 76ers with the mid-level instead of Powell. Younger, cheaper, is still blossoming, and can come close to replicating those numbers if given the opportunity. Now you can start Grimes or Pelle in backcourt next to Kaspar or DMitch if not traded. Then look to take the money you saved resigning Powell and split it among other solid contributors like a Bruce Brown. Bring him home to college team city and he knows how to play his role along stars and get his and contribute. Go and try to steal Sandro Mamukelashvili from Toronto as the big off the bench Can give similar Ware numbers and hit the 3 off the bench. Can play with Bam or Giannis when one sits. You would still have money for another solid guy.
So Bam-Giannis-Wiggins-Grimes/Pelle-Kaspar/DMitch
Bench: Sandro, Pelle, Bruce Brown and another player or big. That doesn’t consider Niko making a Jaquez-like turnaround.
I’m not saying it would win the title, but as the 1st iteration, a lot more solid and potential than most would think by reading some of the posts on what we would look like. As things across the league develop during the first season you could move and improve.
Just spitballing here.
That team would be a serious contender in the East. Think the Giannis trade is a home run and somehow keeping both Pelle and Jaku would make that even more the case. Both have real upside to improve and could turn that team from an East contender into a Finals contender.
Heat’s #13 pick is sitting there as the best single asset available to Milwaukee, they could start a rebuild with #10 and #13 in a deep draft.
Not to mention we could still get someone else from the buyout market. Also you can bring in Hardaway Jr back to Miami for possibly a vet min, and we would still have Myron, Johnson, and dru too.
amy audibet studio guest for wnba shows.(usa net)they got her looking much hotter than the heat had her
The Miami Heat could consider pivoting to pursuit of another star player should they fail to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel‘s Ira Winderman said in a Wednesday appearance on 104.3 WQAM.
Winderman said he feels the Heat are “primed to make a deal” due to an abundance of young players including Nikola Jovic, Pelle Larsson and Kasparas Jakucionis.
“Honestly, if they get a signal it’s not going to be Giannis, I think they explore Kawhi [Leonard]. I think they explore Ja [Morant],” Winderman said. “You can’t get stale, especially in this market.”
This team done been stale. The question is whether they’ll get fully rotten.
Not sure about Ja. They had a chance at him last trade deadline and passed. Same with Durant last offseason. Not sure why they haven’t made moves recently, and I’m not sure what will be different this offseason. But we’ll see

Did you know:
Did you know:
Did you know:
Did you know:
Did you know:
Miami defensive rebounding this year: 74.9% (#8)
Miami DRB% with Ware on court : 72.3 (#25)
Miami DRB% with Ware off court: 77.0 (#2)
Miami might be the #1 defensive rebounding team in the league next year with Giannis in for Ware
I noticed you didn’t address offensive rebounds, total rebounds or average rebounds per minute. Keep in mind that Giannis is a 13 year veteran, Bam is a 9 year veteran and Kel’el is a 2 year veteran.
Overall, Miami was
Ware 9.0 rebounds in 22.1 minutes .407 rebounds per minute
Bam 10.0 rebounds in 32.4 minutes .309 rebounds per minute
Giannis 9.78 rebounds in 28.9 minutes .339 rebounds per minute
ware is an excellent rebounder.hes almost as long as wemby.give him 35 mins a game he might lead the league in rebounding.his defense and offense not sure where it will wind up to be.
Exactly. If he is traded he will come back and bite Miami right square in the @$$.
Bravo!
The Heat were -1 with Ware on the court, +5.2 with him off. That’s the single reason he played only 22 mpg. He was still 7th on the team in total minutes.
Heat’s rebounding with Ware vs Bam:
Ware: -4.7 DRB%, +3.6 ORB%, -0.1 TRB%
Bam: +6.8 DRB%, -1.4 ORB%, +2.3 TRB%
Defensive rebounding is more important than offensive rebounding, and Ware’s offensive rebounds didn’t offset the negative impact (going from best to worst, #2 to #25) on defensive rebounding when he was in the game.
I was told we have no assets and our trade package sucks. 🙂
Don’t believe everything you hear or half of what you see.
are u watching spurs okc can u see him on the ct with these guys lol
Two years from now with 25-30 added lbs and more confidence and experience. Yes.
i was talking about tyler zerro defense not ware.i believe in order for ware to succeed he cant be paired with bam just doesnt work on the offensive end.
It doesn’t work because Spo won’t let it. He loves small ball and doesn’t have the patience to let Ware develop. If anything, Spo is stunting his growth. Spo doesn’t appear to care if Bam prefers to play PF and is best suited for that position. If Miami brings in Giannis, Bam will be stuck playing C for the next few years.
It is very shortsighted not to play your top rookies as much as possible so they can reach their full potentials in the shortest possible time frames. If Ware doesn’t succeed in Miami, I won’t be blaming him.
Serious revisionist history. Spo one on one with Whiteside brought out the best version of Hassan. Whiteside is on record stating Spo working with him allowed him to get that contract, which several other teams were waiting to give if he did not resign with Miami. It worked because Hassan was hungry. Once he got the contract that was another story.
Ware can be the best version of himself here if he stays. It’s up to him just like it’s up to Niko to earn his new deal.
Whiteside is a really good comparison – same standing reach (9’5″) as Ware (9’4.5″). A successful 10 year NBA career on one hand, also an example of how block and rebound numbers don’t equate to rebounding and defensive impact.
In 2016 Whiteside led the NBA in blocks, made 2nd team All-Defense and finished 3rd in DPOY voting but the Heat were a point worse on defense when Whiteside was on court (105.1) vs off (104.2).
In 2017 he led the NBA in total rebounds and defensive rebounds, and the Heat were better in DRB% when he played but 3 points worse on defense (108.3 on vs 105.4 off)
In 2018 he averaged 2x more defensive rebounds per game than Bam (8.2 vs 3.8), and 4.8 more per 36, but the Heat had a lower DRB% with Whiteside playing (79%, still good/#5) than with Bam (81.7%, #1). They were a slightly worse defensive rebounding team when Whiteside was in (-0.2 DRB% in his minutes) despite him leading the team in total, per game, per 36 defensive rebounds
Maybe Ware should be traded to a team where a good coach can bring the best out of him if Spo can’t. Herro, Jaquez and Ware plus the 2026 lottery pick could probably be enough to snag Kahwi.
At the draft Miami was viewed as the ideal landing spot for Ware because of Spo. Ware’s predraft comparison was Christian Wood – talented stretch 5 but not a good defender. Wood played 8 years and averaged 20/10 one year. A good NBA career but not in the same conversation as Bam, let alone Giannis.
I don’t where you are getting your information, but here’s what I found when I Googled the following:
“Kel’el Ware 2024 pre-draft profiles and nba player comparisons”
NBA Player Comparisons
And yet he didn’t go top 10 because those comps deserve top 5 if not top 3. Why? The same issue we are seeing now. I hope he finds that inner “Beast” like his tat says because that is Wemby Jr.
That’s what I see in Ware a “Wemby Lite.”
You can say the same about Jakucionis. He was commonly compared to players such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Goran Dragić, and Tyrese Haliburton and projected to be a mid-late lottery pick. Miami was able to draft him with #20 pick.
If I recall, without double checking, I believe teams got scared off by a drop in 3pt % and increase in TO’s. The Heat didn’t even work him out. I’m glad because I buy Jakucionis as a top 10 talent at minimum, which is why he’s tops on my list to keep in a Giannis trade because he pairs better with Bam and Giannis than Ware. I can’t see Ware on the court with Bam and Giannis at the same time, though I can see him on when one is out.
If Miami trades for Giannis, Ware will be included as part of it. Herro, Ware and Jaquez, Larsson or Jakucionis, depending on who Bucks prefer.
I think it would be 3 guys and picks due to contract renewal and other potential factors like legit offers from other teams, plus the Bucks can only take back so many players. I can see a deal where we keep Pelle and Dragon Jr if nobody else offers the farm.
Wood was a frequent comparison for Ware before the draft. From Sam Vecenie’s draft guide:
His engagement and motor, despite improvement this year, are still worries;
I buy his talent, but I worry that he ends up in the Christian Wood zone — an incredibly talented player who doesn’t consistently help NBA teams win games;
https://www.reddit.com/r/heat/comments/1dpgpko/kelel_wares_strengths_and_weaknesses_as_outlined/
You are correct. Spo got the best out of him, but I disliked the size of the contract from the beginning. He was more for stats than anything else and was a whiner. He played for minimum contracts before and after his time with the team. As with a number of other players, his best years were with the Heat.
OK then it’s decided. Package Herro, Ware and Jaquez and bring in Morant.
It isn’t up to Ware if he stays. His name is openly being included in the proposed Giannis trade. I know there are several good NBA coaches who could help Kel’el be all he can be if Spo can’t.
Re: Whiteside, you can say the same thing about Spo developing the Johnson brothers, the “gummy bear” dude, Jovic and others. Niko doesn’t need to earn jack any more, he’s already got his 4 year/$62.4M guaranteed contract in hand. Now it’s up to Spo to try to squeeze the productivity out of him to justify the contract.
Speaking of Niko, I sure do hope Riley doesn’t think he can place a higher standard on Jaquez for a contract extension than what he placed on Jovic. If so, I can see Jaime turning down an extension and walking when his rookie contract expires.
Unlike Herro, I don’t think Jaquez would appreciate being traded to Milwaukee. He’s not from there. SoCal, S. F. or Phoenix would be much more preferable locations (especially L..A). since he is from there. Maybe he (Herro and Ware) can be sent to the Clippers in a Kahwi trade if/when the Giannis trade falls through…again.
GO HEAT!
Disagree.
He played the minutes he earned. He was terrible at times. Maybe it happened 2-3 times during last season when he sits when he shouldn’t, but there was logic in it.
Ware on this stage of career needs an occasional kick in the ass, or sit a bit to get his act together.
And don’t bring out Jovic for comparison. He should sit all season long. He played only because of his future contract.
The jury is still out on Ware, although I see considerable potential, if he is handled properly.
Niko’s contract was premature and is looking like it may have been (another) big mistake by Riley.
It was premature but it seemed like they were trying to get ahead of a potential breakout. Since it didn’t come it looks brutal. But it’s not as insane as you would think. Take a look at his stats from last year. If I was to round up and down on Wiggins stats this year (15-5-3) and look at Niko from last year (11-4-3), while also acknowledging Wiggins had a slightly better 3pt%, and is a better defender, Wiggins made $28 million and has a $30 million player option. Do you think the difference in stats is worth twice as much?
Also, this is just a random hunch from watching Niko, but he seems to play better when there is a certain kind of player leading the team. He showed out when playing with Joker, and his growth came while playing with Jimmy for most of last year. Jimmy even took him under his wing. I could legit see Niko back, or slightly better, on a team with Giannis. Again, jmo with no real facts to back it, only my eyes, which are definitely worse than HFL 😛 😛
I would say that he wont play much with Giannis or even Bam, because they share similar playing style (bigs which plays point).
I think JJJ takes away his game. With JJJ gone and the ball more in his hands, he can be better. Add better 3p shooting and better finishing, and we have solid role player earning his money.
I hope for the best.
If anyone needs a kick in the ass it’s Niko.
Agree.
The future has arrived on Niko’s contract. The Benjamins start rolling in effective July 1st. Life is good. Here’s what he did to deserve the extension, per an Oct 1, 2025 article in cbssports:
I honestly don’t know what Riley was thinking when he offered Jovic this contract extension. He missed another 35 games after the extendion was signed. In his 4 years with the Heat, Niko has played 154 total games, an average of 38.50 games per season. The most games he has played in any season is 47.
Riley has made several questionable contract decisions over the past few years. Niko’s is just one of them. Maybe it is time for Pat to hang em up.
P.S. There should be an age limit on U.S. Presidents and NBA GMs.
I dont disagee.
What part of this do you people not get there’s no shortcut to returning to glory. It’s going to take a soft rebuild (finding our new franchise cornerstone) for us to do anything. The Heat front office knows this as well, they’re just trying to make a trade so they can sell tickets.

Many people look forward to getting Giannis. Some look forward to building through the draft and acquisitions. What I look forward to most of all is getting to the draft on June 23 and 24 so we can learn what is really going to happen. All of the speculation and rationalizations prove nothing, and will change no one’s mind. Speculation is always a part of the offseason, but this one already feels like the longest offseason ever.
its sports.keeps the heat in topic 12 months of the year
This topic is useless once everyone has made their position clear, and everyone has. What sense is it, for example, for you and I to go back and forth for the next 4 weeks? I know how you see it and you know how I see it. Giannis in a Heat uniform? Great. And I’ll look forward to who they surround him with. Not traded to the Heat? Fine. I’ll look forward to who the new players are, who returns, and who is brought in.
Both routes require massive amounts of luck. Lebron, who is arguably the best player ever, probably worst case top 5, also playing 23 years, has 4 titles. Crazy difficult and luck out the wazoo needed.
I just want to be back in the mix where you are in a position for things to go your way.
All that was obvious long time ago, so a debate about Giannis, trades, drafts is like beating the dead horse.
I m not very excited about Giannis, but I understand we need his level of player to go anywhere.
KD on the Nets, Suns, and Rockets. Kawhi on the Clippers. James Harden anywhere. Joel on the 76ers.
Plenty of star players can’t carry a team to a finals, let alone win won. Trading for an old , injured player and expecting to complete is just as foolish as assuming we’ll land a franchise corner stone in the draft.
The difference is, if you fail in the draft you have next year. If you fail with your superstar that you sold the farm for, you have to wait 5.
as I already mentioned on some other plaxe, there is less then 10 players in the league, which gives you shot to win it all. None at that above is on that list. Giannis is still one of those players.
No team without one of Wemby, SGA, Jokic, Luka,Cade, Curry, Tatum, Giannis will win championship.
If one player of those is available, you go for it.
Giannis also fits on Bam’s timeline.
It seems as though everyone is forgetting that forr the Giannis trade to work, Miami players being traded (e.g., Herro and Jaquez) will need to buy into it and accept extensions. Otherwise, zilch…nada.
Not really. Herro will want a solid contract, but the Bucks can turn around and trade them again, especially before trade deadline, and snag more assets or picks. But none of them will be owed a contract the size of Giannis, so several teams would absolutely be interested if the Bucks were interested in flipping them.
Sounds complicated. Sure sends a strong message to Heat’s young players not to get too comfortable in Miami.
No doubt that Giannis is a special talent. My admiration for him was high and went even higher when he got upset with his coach for not allowing him to play. A player who has a strong desire to play even when his team has been eliminated from contention is my kind of player. However, if you bring him here, you do so for only one reason – to win a championship. You do not bring him here to only be a top 4 seed or just to get to the ecf. At a minimum, you MUST get at least to the finals in his time here. Anything short of that would be a huge failure at a very steep price. It should be no different than the expectations that existed when LeBron came here. And LeBron and Co met that expectation with 4 straight finals and 2 championships.
I think we can agree it would be Giannis’ expectation as well. But he is due a new contract, so just like Jimmy’s time here, as well as Lebron, the first iteration of the team won’t be “the team.” The Heat traded for Crowder and Iggy and that team would have won bubble Finals if Bam and Goran don’t get hurt. Then they tinkered more and surrounded him with some players that fit their mold and did what they were told and made it with guys like Martin, Vincent and Struss.
The point is if it happens the roster at the start of year 1 won’t be the team. But they will get to an iteration that will absolutely make an ECF with a huge chance to make the Finals and win, health permitting.
Probably. The real contender should be 27/28 Heat team.
Good comments. You have a good grasp of the Heat from a historical perspective. I can tell by your comments about Whiteside and other comments going back to before the Wade era and every iteration thereafter.
2qbn is one of the originals here, maybe before me, when we had rocket sprocket, macaroni overlord, even before JNicho. Oregoner was here too, under a different handle at the time.
All legends.
No problem. I would not expect 3-4 straight finals. But if they go all in and get him and don’t win a championship, it would represent a major failure.
Yes, the goal then should be a championship, which mean trade everything, even your future for right players, spend all money is needed, creat most expensive team in history.. window is 2, 3 seasons, nothing more.
This is a win now all in move.
Of course you go for a player like Giannis if you have a chance. The question is at what price? Do you sacrifice all (most of) your young talent and all future draft picks (which are more valuable now)? Even if you have Bam and Giannis, it’s not enough. Look at OKC and Spurs. Their rosters are deep. You can’t beat them with a rotation of 6-7 players. How do we get those players, if we sell our present and our future for Giannis? But no doubt they will go after Giannis, this is what Riley does, he will not wait 5 years to complete a rebuild with uncertain outcome. You are right that this feels like the longest off season ever. I don’t like these speculations about possible trades, everyone has their opinion, but that’s about it, we don’t make the calls. Lets see how it plays out. Meanwhile I will entertain myself with other things.
Exactly. Desperate people do desperate impulsive things which have long term ramifications. There’s a whole lot of desperate people around here these days.
The successful teams are playing chess…while Heat continue to play checkers.
…or playing with themselves…
I don’t understand what alternative they have. They certainly can’t run it back. So unless you’re suggesting the Heat blow it up for future picks (something they’ve literally never done before), chasing a star is basically their only option. Get Giannis now, and clear the books to get Mitchell next offseason
no Mitchell.
i think you missed the point of that comment
Probably. What was the point?
The web Pat has woven has wrapped in on him so deeply he can only flail around like a trapped bug that slips deeper into this trap of his own making. Getting out of the mistakes he has made, and the ground he has lost, and the talent he has wasted, and the albatrosses he has kept, and the picks he had squandered, and the money he has thrown away, is going to take a Houdini-esque level of subterfuge to find some new path to relevance.
With all this talk we do about this possible move or that one, let’s just hope that even a little of it comes to pass. If Pat could even come close to the strongly worded message he put out during that presser he gave about a month ago, it wiuld be a wonderful thing. Still, talk is cheap and getting something accomplished is how Riley should be evaluated. Taking everything into account, the mediocre roster, the salaries, the limited draft capital, the small amount of apron space, and the possible loss of some of our best players, it’s hard to be buoyantly optimistic.
Let’s hope this isn’t our summer of discontent.
If the Heat stop chasing a star player, then we might as well stop chasing a 1 through 6 seed in the playoffs and be in the play-in tournament every year.
Bingo! Non play-in team even better.
I thought this was relevant.

What this demonstrates is that several NBA teams have made poor choices with top 5 selections. Just look at the names
Well then if only GM’s could figure that out. lol
My friend that is part of the game. Giannis, Curry etc were not top 5 picks, as you know.
GMs are paid to make good decisions. If they don’t, in most cases, (except in Miami) they are fired. This front office needs an enema.
Great article, tanking as a get-rich-quick scheme is a great analogy. Even if the rules allowed it going forward, a team can tank for the next 50 years and not replicate what the Spurs did, effectively getting three straight #1 picks to draft two potential All-NBA players and potentially the greatest player of all time.
And OKC who is always cited as a tanking example would be nowhere without getting SGA (+16.5 with him on the court, only +4.2 with him off), which didn’t involve the draft
“It’s not an accident that teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Heat and Warriors all have lined up to have cap space in 2027 when Giannis can be a free agent, one NBA executive told ESPN”
https://www.totalprosports.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/giannis-antetokounmpo-2027-sweepstakes-lakers-warriors-heat-clippers/
he dissed la forget about them
Point is that multiple teams have been planning on being cap space teams in 2027, and it’s not an uncommon strategy limited to the Heat. Having the ability to sign Giannis outright in 2027 will help the Heat in a trade now.
Look at the Knicks homegrown talent! Oh wait. Never mind. 😛
I haven’t seen anyone state there is only one way to build a competitive team.
No but if we polled the site I would bet that tank/draft picks would probably be 50% or just over, no?
At least from the comments I’ve seen, it seems the majority of people are for trading for Giannis. On this page alone, it seems like 20 of the current 25 comments are for the trade.
proven star or maybe a star .we only drafted one all our best players acquired
I know what your opinion is. See above ⬆️.
Also, look at the article I posted that in. 😉
Hey, he still only counts as one person!
hahaha! Well played
im a one way poster u r a 2 way poster
They didn’t get the memo, true. Still, if there is great player available, you go for it. I mean great, not Bridges or Bane or Harden, George or Mitchell type. Those are not game changers, those are players which you need besides your superstar. somebody pay far too much for those.
Heat had Bam, they dont need another one of that type.
Preach!
Giannis is ~top 20, 25 best players in history of the NBA, one of the best PF of all time. Averaged 33/15/7 a year ago in playoffs. A one man top 10 offense. Like in 2019 with Butler, if that type of player wants to join your team its a good thing.
agree.
And if they don’t, they’re going to continue being left behind by the rest of the league and, most importantly, the stars eluding them.
the only negative to greek is style of play age injury history.w/o a j he plays the jjj game of driving to the hoop where he gets lots of contact.those hits build up and body typically will break down..we would need another star brought in with him to have a chance for jewelry.when knicks got jb they continued to add add and add.i have no faith in pat anymore i think alot of gms dont like him and dont want to deal with him.its a family biz so we’re stuck with him until he wants out.
Spo would create an offense to ease some of that burden just like he did for Lebron, which ended up being the most efficient version of Lebron in his career. I would think Giannis has that ability in him if given a similar battle plan.
bam ware couldnt figure it out.lets hope bam greek can figure it out if we get him which i hope we do.no ??s asked u get him.if we dont we will be irrelevant for a while
So you are comparing Bam and Ware to Giannis, a two two MVP and a Finals MVP? Interesting choice on your part. 😉
Its bball iq how to play together on the ct.bam ware couldnt figure it out
I’m not positive Ware even likes playing basketball. Appears to play it because of his size and can make money but I don’t sense any care in the flow or understanding the game. If he’s not traded I’ll be glad for him to prove me wrong. So far though it was his big knock coming out of college and it’s playing out that way.
I wouldn’t argue about his motivation or understanding of the game. But a 22 year old player that achieves 11/9/39.5% 3p% on 22 mpg isn’t bad for a second year player.
just think if he had a motor what he might be
Who is to say what he will become? I think we will get a better idea in his third year, whether he is here or elsewhere.
If he turns out to be the top rebounder in the NBA along with the center with the highest 3pt% and an evolving defensive game, I think trading him would be known as “Riley’s folly.”
I feel like he could be a multiple time rebound leader at least 2 or 3 times. Yes his ever evolving 3pt shot acc is impressive, he’s already better then most bigs shooting at this age. He just needs 30 mins a night to see the full potential, even with motor concerns, he would get you 12 boards instead of 9. I don’t want ware to go, so I’ll be sad, if he is traded. But Wouldn’t be surprised tho cuz that’s been Riley’s bread and butter move, since forever.
Or a coach who knew how to motivate him in order to get the most out of him instead of brow beating him.
Stop it. Ware was at two different schools and it was the same issue. Now maybe none of the 3 coaches were the right tone for how Ware might listen, but let’s not pretend as if this is just a Spo issue. So far it’s been a Ware issue.
Hey, I was on record wanting the Heat to draft him, so hoping we see that next level if he is still here.
Those stats made me go back and check on Whiteside and when he was given those minutes he was at 11-10, so funny coincidence.
But ain’t nobody else doin it with blocks
Soft hands, Eric!
Heat were -1.7 with Ware on the court this year, +4.2 with him off, -5.9 net. That’s the reason the Bam Ware lineup played limited minutes. Heat were among the worst defensive rebounding teams in the NBA with Ware on, -4.7 in DRB% in his minutes.
