With only 11 active Miami Heat players heading into Tuesday’s contest against the tanking Washington Wizards, you likely expected a less-than-fruitful night, barring strong play from the Heat’s young players.
Well, you just witnessed history.
Miami Heat big Bam Adebayo broke the first-quarter record in points scored with 31, the most in a single first quarter since Kevin Love’s 34 points with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
Additionally, Adebayo broke his career-high in scoring … in the first half, tallying 43 points on 13-of-24 shooting and 5-of-11 from 3-point range. He broke the Heat’s record for points scored in the first quarter, first half, any quarter and any half, which was 37, according to the Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds.
At the time of publication, there’s still another half to play.
LeBron James broke the Heat’s franchise record in scoring with 61 on March 3, 2014, which broke Glen Rice’s record set in 1995.
Well, LeBron, your record is in some danger with 24 minutes left to play — albeit against a tanking team.
