Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier will earn his full 2025-26 salary after winning his grievance with the NBA regarding his contract, ESPN’s David Purdum first reported Monday.
Rozier’s salary has been held in escrow since December, per Purdum. He is on the books for $26.6 million this season, which became fully guaranteed in January.
“Terry won today under principles of contract law and the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and the players, but the bigger principle at issue is the presumption of innocence,” Jim Trusty, Rozier’s attorney, said in a statement, according to Purdum. “Today’s arbitration ruling reminds the NBA that they can’t ignore that important concept just because it’s a high-profile case.”
Rozier was arrested in late October — the night after the Heat’s season-opening loss to the Orlando Magic — and was federally indicted on gambling charges. Rozier allegedly played a role in bets placed on a game in March of 2023, when he was with the Charlotte Hornets.
He was charged — and pleaded not guilty to — conspiracy charges on wire fraud and money laundering.
It remains unclear whether or not the Heat can successfully move Rozier’s $26.6 million ahead of the deadline. His contract will expire at the end of this season, making him an unrestricted free agent next summer, when he will enter his age-32 season.
Last year, he had one of the worst seasons of his career. In 64 games, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Rozier shot 39.1 percent shooting and 29.5 percent from 3-point range.
His expiring salary would be a critical factor to any deal where the Miami Heat would need to salary match a bigger contract — ahem, Ja Morant or Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, there’s also a benefit to letting it expire if you don’t have to attaching anything extra on to it.
The trade deadline is Feb. 5 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

As much as Giannis is a needle mover, I think these alternative trade scenarios might be more realistic and/or better in some ways. For some reason I keep thinking we need an all-star PG rather than an all-star Giannis (I don’t know, looking at the past few NBA champions all seem to have an all-star PG in there somewhere). Giannis helps, no doubt…
The Cavs are in talks to swap Garland for Harden! Have the Cavs lost their minds? A 26 year old good player for a 36 year old party animal who has never helped a team win a championship? Is there a contract dispute? Personality clash?
Let them. So if we see Cavs in playoffs Harden can do another Houdini.
garland cant stay healthy thats why they got ellis shcroeder.hes the tyler herro of the cavs.
Not blaming Terry. Yet. Until proven guilty. But this is infuriating and i blame league officials and the Hornets.
do u think they knew about this before the trade.if they did then thats a problem.how do u know who knew what manila
Not sure how many times we had to tell you this – YES, THEY KNEW. Silver said there was nothing in the bargaining agreement that says they are required to reveal that.
Sorry for our friend there… not really following the details of this story hehe
The NBA was aware of unusual betting activity involving Terry Rozier 10 months before the January 2024 trade to the Miami Heat, but the league did not inform the Heat of this red flag. While the league cleared Rozier in its internal investigation prior to the trade, Commissioner Adam Silver expressed sympathy for the team, calling the subsequent indictment an “unprecedented situation” with “no obvious solution” for compensation. i swear he was missing shots on purpose here
LAST TIME HEAT. PLEASE PRINT IT OUT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
BACKGROUND
On January 23, 2024, the Miami Heat acquired guard Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a 2027 1st round draft pick.
In mid 2025, news broke about an ongoing FBI investigation of Rozier’s alleged illegal betting activities. The NBA acknowledged conducting their own administrative investigation and finding nothing to support the allegations. Silver also acknowledged being aware of an ongoing FBI criminal investigation of Rozier, prior to his trade to Miami.
On October 23, 2025, Rozier was arrested by the NBA and charged with wire fraud and money laundering. On October 29, 2025, he was placed on indefinite unpaid leave by the NBA. The league moved to withhold his $26.6 million salary for the 2025-26 season while he was away from the Miami Heat. At an arbitration hearing on February 2, 2026, the NBA’s decision to withhold Rozier’s salary was overturned, ensuring he would be paid his full season’s salary of $26.6M.
LEGAL RECOURSE
Failure to disclose detrimental information—often termed “fraud by omission” or “fraudulent concealment”—occurs when a party withholds material facts they were under a duty to disclose, leading to harm for the other party. While most non-disclosure disputes are civil, intentional concealment can also lead to criminal charges. The undisclosed information must be significant enough to have changed the injured party’s decision.
Riley should have already initiated lawsuits against the NBA and Charlotte Hornets over this matter, in an effort to recoup the team’s losses (money and 2027 draft pick). As of today, he has failed to publicly disclose what, if any legal action he has pursued or is planning to pursue. Meanwhile, the Heat is hamstrung by Rozier’s albatross contract, which he will now be paid in full, although he hasn’t played one single game this season, since he was suspended by the NBA in October, 2025 following his arrest and charging.
at the time the trade went down the nba was not aware of terrys shadiness sounds like to me.silver would have stepped in and voided the trade.sounds like the investigation started after the trade .he he
Dude. Silver knew about the allegations when he approved the trade. FBI investigation had already been initiated when trade was approved Silver and Charlotte knew about allegations BEFORE Silver approved the trade but FAILED to inform Heat. Capiche?
Man, you are just not getting it.
‘Sounds like’ to you? Where are you getting that? Have you done any research? Clearly, no. Facts are facts sir.
There is a question, and I don’t agree with this lame excuse, but the league’s rebuttal to our argument is that only health related issues need to be conveyed to the teams involved in trades. That was the highly disputable logic that the league was trying to use to defend itself. I agree Riley should have been more proactive in defending the Heat’s interests. If anything, potential criminal activities should come above health concerns in the hierarchy of necessity to inform.
Absolutely
The ball is your court Pat. How about a status report of what you are doing to obtain reimbursement for Rozier’s salary the past 2 1/2 years and return of Miami’s 2027 pick?
When was the last time we heard from him?
hes cruising the world enjoying life.hes got nothing to prove anymore .hes a top 3 gm coach all time.enjoy europe asia alaska pat youve earned it.

Never. Hasn’t shown his face. He must be afraid of confronting Silver…much less suing the f*** out of NBA and Charlotte. Pretty pathetic.

Silver and Hornets failed to inform Heat of criminal allegations before Silver approved the trade. Heat went into it blind and are now suffering the consequences. NBA and Hornets are legally liable!
Nondisclosure in civil contract matters has civil consequences and can potentially have criminal ones as well. Riley is holding the cards. I’m wondering if he has the cajones to legally play them.
I never figured Riley noror Arison as spineless, but that’s what it looks like. No spine ..no glory. Maybe that’s why they like Jovic so much…three peas in a pod.
Btw, if Jovic is worth 4 years/ $62.4M, Jaquez, who is extension eligible next summer, is worth twice that. If not from Miami, maybe from one of his hometown teams, the Lakers or the Clippers. will pay him better than Heat. Maybe even home state Warriors or Kings. Even Phoenix Houston, Dallas and San Antonio may throw their hats in the ring if he becomes a free agent in 2027.
They all have large Mexican -American (rather than Cuban-American) populations and he could be a greater marketing tool out west than in Miami. Jus sayin.
He can be an import here in the Philippines 😆
No. It’s like selling your house and failing to inform buyer of known defects in property. Seller is legally responsible not the buyer. Capiche?
More accurately, known potential defect in property.
But true, that potential transformed into fact too soon to flip this house to somebody else, and here we are.
Its not that season was lost or win because of that, Rosier was a marginal player half of the time he was here. Not much better then Nico this year, in fact.
Capiche? Obviously not.
silver is like trump not much the heat could do.u dont mess with trump capiche u dont mess with silver capiche mi pisano amigo
Of course there are things the team can do. As SM has pointed out. Doesn’t mean the team would win, but it should fight the issue. And no commissioner or president has, or should have, absolute power. They are subject to guidelines and laws just like any of us.
If Riley isn’t going to defend the interests of the team (and the fans) he shouldn’t be allowed to remain in his current position. No huevos, no trabajo. Comprende?
